I don't want to see or hear any more of this out of this guy. Nominated for the Messier Leadership Award . . . if those voters get wind of this, not so much.

LOL! Still, that can't go on any more. We all know the refs wouldn't tolerate Toews doing that to Zet all game, or any other Hawk on Datsyuk (yeah, I know, nobody can do that to Datsyuk, but that's not the point).

Boy Groundhog day around here. We lose one game, play a stinker and we are back to the same board cliches from January.

Toews is struggling, he is human. He is getting some chances, that is hockey. Projecting excuses for him passes time, but does nothing. If many think that his line mates are so week, you might be surprised to find 100 other centers who would die to skate on that line as center.

Toews, the size of Mark Messier, has found ways to put points up all year. This idea that a guy playing his style would disappear in the playoffs is hyperbole and defies logic. He does not play perimeter hockey. Zetterberg got the best of him last game, tip your cap.

Hawks play a solid game tonight. Win 3 - 0. All this fawning over Babcock and Wings...bleh...the wings have a solid number 2 dman and 5 number 5 or 6 guys on the blue line...that is the game and focus. Exploit that and you win. This is not complicated.

I think we see a different Stalberg tonight this guy has the potential to ignite some energy into the whole team with one burst of speed leading to a huge hit. If he doesnt well then we will see him wearing his figure skates with another team next year.....and rightfully so.

yet more dumb hitting nonsense.

you know who won the "hitting" in game two? the blackhawks. you know who almost vomited ten times while at the game from watching them play like absolute crap? me and everybody else there.

i like a nice hit as much as the next guy, but priority number one is using your speed and skill to expose Detroit's defense.

Another unspoken part of the game tonight and the series. Babcock is working the refs as you can be sure, are Hawk sources. Officiaiting shifts within series. Stuff one team or the other gets away with it for a while starts getting called.

Agreed on the hit count, but getting the bigger hits over the course of theseries matters.

I have no issue good or bad, actually mostly good, with how the Hawks are hitting in this series. Hawks are getting enough big shots in that Detroit, and the usual suspects like Kronwall and Abdelkader have to keep THEIR heads up. Dunno how many of you noticed Hjalmarsson just narrowly missing a huge shot on Abdelkader which Abdelkader immediately tried to retaliate for. I think that will benefit the Hawks as the Wings can less afford to get out of position in most situations.

Agreed on using speed and Stalberg being back in makes at least a marginal difference both ways.

One question I think worth asking is, do you re-unite Seabrook and Keith? I think it is worth looking at. The Hawks need to be much better tonight in all facets. I think they know that, but the Wings are playing very well, and now they have confidence that they can beat the Hawks. I do not have a good feeling about this series. Toews needs to get a goal in the worst way because obviously Zetterberg is in his head. This team must be willing to match Detroit's work ethic or the Hawks are done in 6. No excuses tonight!!

One last chime before rewatching the last Memorial Cup game:

I continue to wonder that if by some incredible stroke of fate, a strong physical skating wing had been playing with Toews for the last couple of years, if Toews woulld have a whole lot more room.
It's not like the Hawks had room to trade and groom someone, or acquire some guy with hopes that he clicked.
Maybe Tallon hoped that somehow Beach was goona skate better and be that guy...a dream from the start.

So we don't have that or any of the other player archtypes the mob here desires...that just means Toews better dig deeper the next couple.

If there is a re-occuring heath issue, I think you have to move ahead to ensure it isn't something that continues to roadblock future runs.

- wiz1901

Hossa is not a strong physical skating wing who can create room?

Seabrook hasn't earned a promotion back to the first line. He's had a down year. Granted, Hjalmarsson had a horrible game in game 2 but for the most part has been the Hawks' best defender. And Hammer and leddy haven't played together all year, now would not be the best time to start.

Crawford was fine last game. If he continues playing the way he's been playing, then everything will be Hunky Dory.

Best advice I ever heard for dealing with awful referees... "Make the game ugly"

Don't go Bertuzzi on anyone's ass but at that point they should be grabbing, clutching hacking slashing and spearing while face washing at every single whistle making the game so unwatchable that the referees have to start blowing the whistle or 12 guys are going to be in the box at all times.

i play the game at least once a week, if not more and I've watched many LA games. a big hit is fun to watch, but a big hit doesn't always equate to goals. did you watch PIT vs. OTT last night? I saw a ton of giant hits. I saw a game with no scoring. You know what it takes to win a game? Goals.

more importantly, you do not send stalberg out there to hit guys. he never has and he isn't going to start now.

about what JJ said, i think that they have been hitting well in this series, but Game Two seemed to feature a lot of guys seemingly trying very hard to make hits, which did leave them out of position. Bickell had one where he took a run at a guy and totally whiffed and hit nothing but glass - had a good laugh at that one, comic relief after dropping big money to watch that turd of a game.

Geez I wish I was as confident as you are.

Look there is no question the Hawks are a better team on paper. They have more depth, more experience, and overall more skill then the Wings.

BUT...the Wings are extremely well coached and now they have home ice. And they have to be feeling good about themselves after the last game which they basically dominated for 60 minutes.

The Hawks tonight need to do to the Wings exactly what the Wings did to them in Game 2. Outnumber them in the corners...the D have to be aggressive supporting the rush at every opportunity and keeping pucks in the Wings zone...they need to be quick and crisp with their first pass exiting their zone...and they need to stay out of the box because the Hawks cant continue to kill off every penalty.

I also think a little bit of in-game line shuffling might help since Babcock has the last change - and if I were Q I'd put Stalberg out there with Toews on at least a few shifts - you know the former has something to prove tonight and his speed could create space for Johnny.

Handzus the second coming of Adam Creighton, the human sundial? or more like Jay McKEE the ticket master in the "L"?
- Stricknasty's Hero

More like the second coming of Sammy Paulsson ! Remember that great trade ?
James Wisniewski for Sammy Paulsson !!! Needed that great face-off guy even back in 2009. Zus even wears that same #26 !!! BAD .

This doomsday thought process of yours is just ridiculous and over the top.

Lose one game to Detroit and all of a sudden the Wings forget losing 7 in a row to the Hawks and Zetterburg's DNA has been deposited permanently in Toew's head like poison ivy.

The Hawks have played better and more consistently on the road all year than at the UC. 20 guys have to come out tonight with their ears pinned back and take the game to the Red Wings with speed shift after shift and use physical play where it's appropriate. The game will take care of itself from there and we"ll see how good a coach Babcock is compensating for that relatively dreadful defence corps he has at his disposal.

you must play pick up hockey cause you obviously dont understand. Its called wearing them down mentally and physically over seven games it takes a toll on players. I guess you will have to see what happens when they play LA if they get by this round to see what im saying. The stats sheets show there outhitting but half those shouldnt even be considered hits rather bumps IMO. If the opportunity is there drill Zetterberg hard enough, make him a target and we wont hear anymore of Toews being frustrated . Whats that? We dont have anyone that will do that on this team? thats b.S! this is the playoffs if no one can step up for their captain then the heart of this team must be questioned.

This makes zero sense, Ottawa scored enough goals to win while wearing Pitt down and throwing big hits. Would it have been a better game if the goalies had let in more shots? You only need to score more than you're opponent that night.

I just came up with a solution for Toews' scoring drought after watching an interview - peel off that awful beard that somebody bought for him at the local five and dime store. It must be sliding down his face when he is on the ice and he's probably distracted with the worry of it falling off completely.
