Why do I feel like Stan Bowman is going to be saying something about "underachieving in the playoffs" in the next few weeks? - John Jaeckel
I worried about three things from Detroit before this series started. Two have been happening the past two games (Babcock's coaching/system and obstruction). thankfully no one has been decapitated by a hit (the third). This is very likely a 7-game series...if a few things happen, but LA is still looking unbeatable to me. |

Too bad that heart wasn't in a bigger body. - paulr
Shaw's size is a non-issue. He threw 3 very hard, clean checks in the game that hurt each of the guys he hit. He's fearless and he hits to hurt.
And once you absorb that, go back and rewatch the game and compare Shaw's effort on rhe evening with that of the guy making $5.8 million a year more than him. You know, that guy who scored the Hawks goal but was invisible otherwise most of the night. |

No doubt. Credit where credits due. Wings won. Congrats! Howard is tough.
On the flip side our PP sucks though so not so worried about those calls as much as an obvious bad call on Shaw that results in a no-goal and would have made it a tie game. The non-call on Franzen? Let's be honest the man might have missed his calling as a thespian.
Dare I say if not for a few bounces (3 posts) and some Puck Luck game could have gone our way.
- HawkintheD
can't hit numbers when they are facing you against the boards - that is text book boarding, not matter how the lad goes down. Hawks should have been up all before that poop happened -- blaming that non-call is like, well I dunno, blaming the refs for not blowing the puck down on the back of the net in game 1 on Howard.
Im not going to argue calls, ALL teams have bad ones for and against. You gotta get over em' and move on -- that is what Champions do.

Calls are inconsistent every game these days it seems, but they obviously fell Detroits way tonight. Seen similar no-goals called against the Wings for years, sucks to have it happen with that timing. - tmanv

I've been asking myself this all season long. What a joke! - fourfeathers
Yeah but they have been for awhile now, longer than kompon was here. He needs to go, though. It has to be not having a guy as big and skilled as buff. The powerplay is what won them those series in 2009 and the Cup in 2010. I don't think they get by Vancouver twice and san jose in 2010 without the pp |

Agreed. And the "playoff warriors" in 36, 19 and 81.
On another note: Why Q "benched" Stalberg is just mind boggling. |

Agree. Just being a smart ass and throwing Puck Luck back at ya because i don't think it applied to the first game at all.
I was at a game last year that the Wings completely dominated against the Hawks and they had no biz even being in the contest. Puck takes a funny bounce and Howard misplays boom Shaw pops it in we're down 2-1. We pull the goalie for the extra attacker at the end and Hossa ties it.
The Wings eventually won but this is a game I think you could have made your case for puck luck; not game 1.

Well that game was quite a roller coaster ride. Some of you Hawk fans need to relax... the sky is not falling. Heck, it's only 2-1 at this point. Remind me of Wings fans when we were the favorites in past playoffs...
Tough call on the "no-goal" with Shaw... probably should have counted. I know I would have been screaming if it had been the Wings goal disallowed. Having said that, I still think the Wings earned this win. Zetterberg and Datsyuk were stellar at faceoffs. Datsyuk was about 60% at the end of the game. Toews is getting beat on the faceoffs. Wings are taking away time and space from the Hawks and clogging up the neutral zone. Wings overall team defense has been exactly what is needed to make this a series. Not bad when you consider they had to rebuild their defense this year on the fly. Just wish Dekeyser had not got injured in the first round. That kid is a top 4 defenseman next season. Glad the Wings didn't get steamrolled and are battling hard just like they did against Anaheim. Wings have GOT to start scoring some poweplay goals...
This win goes to Howard.. he's been money for the last two games and making HUGE clutch saves. He stood on his head this game. Especially that breakaway on Sharp. People forget the Wings only allowed 2 or goals or less for 13 of the last 18 games of the regular season.

Uh. No it isn't he hadn't frozen or held the puck on the net. Howard barely put a stick on it and didn't get a whistle nor should he.
Shaw was called for phantom goalie interference.
You're the one who was trying to sell that puck luck garbage after the first game.
Tonight was a close game; we lost end of story.
I and the Hawks are moving on to game 4 and hoping for a better outcome.

My stock in Toews is plumitting lately.
Yes, he is great in most aspects of the game but he needs to contribute on the score sheet if this team is go any further in these playoffs.
His last meaningful goal was 4 playoff rounds and 2 plus years ago when he scored to tie the Vancouver series in game 7 at the end of the 3rd to get to overtime.
We all remember how that series ended. - Blackhawks4life
how can you have stock in someone that mispronounces his own last name. Its almost as bad as some of the cities/towns here in utah like Tooele (too-el-a) Hurricane (her-i-ken)
You guys have to remember that the Hawks have the Presidents Trophy which is a curse in its self. since 85-86 only 7 teams that have won the trophy have won the cup.
not trying to give you guys crap.....good luck in game 4
