The Kings patiently built a cup contending core thru the draft and Richards and Carter were the final pieces added to get them over the hump. But the Kings didn't rush it and make a big move until the their prospect pool was full and able to sustain the trades. Holmgren went all in with the Pronger trade assuming both Carter and Richards were 1A and 1B type players, which they are not. Those guys are complimentary players not building blocks, kinda like a good pitcher who is the default number 1 on his crap team but would be a killer as the 3rd pitcher on a great team.
The moral of the story is that Flyers should show patience with the current group instead of going all in this offseason on a defender. This team isn't a complimentary player away from a cup nor is the prospect pool stocked enough to survive a big trade. There are good pieces here, just no enough yet to contend nor numerous enough to subtract and still be competitive. - psuhockey
I think Carter and Richards are first liners on any team.
The Kings just have two first lines with Kopitar/Williams/Brown.
Also some pretty good bottom 6 players, solid D and goaltending.
Size and speed throughout the line up.
Perfectly built for the playoffs team.

The lineup is stacked and that's the point. They built it thru the draft and added Carter and Richards, who are no better than the 5 best player on that team (Quick, Doughty, Kopitar, Brown). They are 1st line talents on other teams but I doubt those teams would win the cup. |

Assuming both B Schenn and Couts is on the team next season I think you see these two players grow. A full offseason with the team, trainers, coaches camp etc I think will help tremendously. If Flyers can land another top D-man I think this team can contend next season. Im sure there were some variables, but a very depleted Flyers team beat some pretty good teams down the stretch. |

I have no doubt the team will be better if for no other reason then everyone will get healthier and will have camps. However, the new Conference is scary. The fact we struggle against NYR, NJD, and even though we hold our own against the Pitt they are a beast. Only 3 teams from the conference can make the playoffs, and we are adding a decent washington team, plus NYI are getting better. Sure there are 2 "wild cards" but can we expect to have more points playing 5 or 6 games against our conference then Toronto and Ottawa will have beating up on Florida teams.

Day offically ruined. And I blame you!
Luckily we'll be back to playing both conferences soon. But are right we'll see more of our division than anyone else and none of the teams are slouches... |

The Devils are as dangerous as 41 year old Martin Brodeur makes them. And that's not nearly as threatening as only a few short years ago.
As for the Rangers, I would guess if we continue our struggles against them (and potentially the Devils), Lavi's leash might get yanked. |

Well, since I always root for the Kings, Ill have no problem with it. Ive always liked the Kings and have no issues with Carter or Richards. Both were great for us when they were here, and both left not of their own accord.
GO KINGS!! - MBFlyerfan
I don't root for any team other than the Flyers so I don't give a hoot who wins. I watch because I love hockey.
That said, if LA gets to the finals they need to bust out their purples. |

of course. it also happened to be the year we pinned our hopes on a career ahl goalie with our former 1995 first round pick goalie back on the team for the 83rd time on the bench and probably still hurt from having ryan parent collapse on his leg in the 2nd round all the while having nobody play defense at the same time as having 2 former flyers play key roles and having a player who should have been a flyer score the cup winning OT goal on our own ice. good times. - hammarby31
That script would be thrown out of Hollywood as being just too far fetched. |

And you guys think our local media is bad.
I don't profess to know a lot about how Jonathan Toews is playing, but damn....this is a bit of a hatchet job if you ask me: http://www.suntimes.com/s...lackhawks-by-example.html
A hatchet job of a player that has actually won something. - johndewar
Watching them so far... Id say it was pretty accurate. The Red Wings have made Towes look terrible... and have gotten him so far off his game it is actually pretty amazing. |

That is true however you never know some of those teams could go south, I dont think anyone expected the Flyers to miss out on the playoffs this season. |

I think the biggest thing is that Lombardi showed tremendous patience in building that team. I remember fans and bloggers ragging on Lombardi saying he's afraid to make a move. And what is he waiting for? He made all the right moves, instead of just making moves. Carter and Richards are key pieces that they added. And I'm happy as poop that they got to skate the Cup. With all the nonsense that was spewed about them. They were top players here, and they are in LA. They have a hell of a team out there, top to bottom. I don't begrudge them their success for one second. I like the trades, and I like this team. Don't regret the trades for one single second. And anyone who wants to come and say the Flyers made a mistake. Let them. Who cares. Because that story is still being written as far as I'm concerned.

I agree... It was another example of a good trade... So far it has been more beneficial to the Kings, but it would certainly be premature to say we lost...
We gained (not all directly, but in the grand scheme) Simmonds, Voracek, Couts, B. Schenn, Cousins, Ghost and Grossmann ALL as a result from those two trades. That is ONE hell of a return. Now its time for the org AND the fans to be patient. |

I dont think they are saying he is a terrible captain who has never won and never will again, but that he is not looking like a good captain right now.
He was brutal last night. So out of his game it was unreal. |

Female dogging like that when they just won the cup a few years ago is pretty amazing. That fan base needs to sit in our shoes right now lol. Teows for sure was out of his element in his behavior but dude is a solid player and captain we are all human and can snap. |
