That is the worst case scenario if you're a Flyers fan. That match up in the Finals will subject us to every troll in the NHL forest.
The only rooting interest in a Pens/Kings finals would be for a meteor strike. - johndewar

Over the last 50+ years, the one year the Hawks picked not to be frauds had to be 2010. - PLindbergh31
of course. it also happened to be the year we pinned our hopes on a career ahl goalie with our former 1995 first round pick goalie back on the team for the 83rd time on the bench and probably still hurt from having ryan parent collapse on his leg in the 2nd round all the while having nobody play defense at the same time as having 2 former flyers play key roles and having a player who should have been a flyer score the cup winning OT goal on our own ice. good times. |

Well, since I always root for the Kings, Ill have no problem with it. Ive always liked the Kings and have no issues with Carter or Richards. Both were great for us when they were here, and both left not of their own accord.
GO KINGS!! - MBFlyerfan
Not all of us enjoy the "SEE WE SHOULD HAVE TOTALLY KEPT CARTER AND RICHARDS" herpy-derp that will, no doubt, get trotted out if the Kings win another Cup (which is looking very likely at this point). |

Yep. Datsyuk is amazing and I'm a fan of Zetterberg's work. Will definitely be rooting for winged wheel if that match up happens. |

To me it's less about "we should have kept Carter and Richards" and more about how dissapointing it is that the Kings can manage to incorporate those players into a cup winning team and the Flyers couldn't. |

And you guys think our local media is bad.
I don't profess to know a lot about how Jonathan Toews is playing, but damn....this is a bit of a hatchet job if you ask me: http://www.suntimes.com/s...lackhawks-by-example.html
A hatchet job of a player that has actually won something.

??? I didn't say Carter & Richards are the reason the Kings are a Cup team. I said the Kings were able to fit them into a Cup team and the Flyers weren't. |

Fans who don't want the Kings the win the Cup strictly because of Carter and Richards are asinine. If you don't want them a win to avoid the trolls that's one thing. The Flyers got a boatload for both guys, and for good reason. It wasn't like Homer thought the two would never help a team win the cup, he just felt that it wasn't going to be them that led THIS team to the Cup.
EDIT: Not even to say they lead LA, because they didn't do that either. |

and what i said are the reasons why they didn't "fit" into a cup winning team here. meaning, we didn't have the pieces that LA has, namely the same kind of goaltending. |

DKos summed it up nicely for me, I think. I do wish there was a way it could have worked.

Who cares about Richards and Carter anymore?
They couldn't get it done in Philly and they went elsewhere and won. Big deal. female doging about the trades are ridiculous. It was obvious that Richards and Carter had a bit of maturing to do when they were still here. I think they matured a lot after they were traded--pretty much thrown out on the street by an organization that coddled them together since they were drafted.
That being said, I love the return the Flyers got for them. This is a great core that can win the Cup--but the media and the fan base needs to be patient and let them grow. |

The Kings patiently built a cup contending core thru the draft and Richards and Carter were the final pieces added to get them over the hump. But the Kings didn't rush it and make a big move until the their prospect pool was full and able to sustain the trades. Holmgren went all in with the Pronger trade assuming both Carter and Richards were 1A and 1B type players, which they are not. Those guys are complimentary players not building blocks, kinda like a good pitcher who is the default number 1 on his crap team but would be a killer as the 3rd pitcher on a great team.
The moral of the story is that Flyers should show patience with the current group instead of going all in this offseason on a defender. This team isn't a complimentary player away from a cup nor is the prospect pool stocked enough to survive a big trade. There are good pieces here, just no enough yet to contend nor numerous enough to subtract and still be competitive. |
