which dman should we trade for? no way i trade the 11th for edler - 2Real
11th for Bob Ryab. Simmonds for Edler. Seems like the Flyers kind of move to me.
Seriously tho, can't see them trading the 11th for any of the rumored guys like Yandel or Buff. |

If the flyers could trade back to about 15 I think they could still grab a really good D propect. Id say they walk away with Zadorov, Nurse, Pullock, Ristolanian or Morin. I have a feeling Nurse slips a bit for some reason. |

Not a bad scenario at all. As long as they have a 1st-rounder this year, I'll be happy. It would just be really disappointing to see them deal it away in some knee-jerk quick-fix. - Tomahawk
Agreed. Unless it lands them a guy like Pietrangelo(which it obviously won't by itself), better to hold onto it and add depth. |

Morrissey or Hagg would be there at 15, in all likelihood, too. |

Excellent as always Bill.
I agree that trading up to get Nurse would be less than desired.
The biggest concern that I have going into this draft, and it is something that you alluded too in a previous column regarding the Flyers past drafts, is that this is the same group of talent evaluators (give or take) and decision makers that took Kevin Marshall over PK Subban. No where can I find a pre draft report that has Marshall near Subban as either a prospect, long term project or current (at the time) physical tools. Subban was on Team Canada, he had international experience, he just didn't have the "sandpaper" edge that Marshall was supposed to deliver.
Well, guess what, Subban has that edge and is on his way to a fine career. Marshall, nice guy, is not. And this is the group that traded up to draft Marshall over Subban...and they will be making the decisions again...and that is what dampens my enthusiasm for this draft.

It's an even more apt comparison because they got 180 goals out of Carter before peddling him off for Schenn (5th-overall) and Simmonds (61st-overall), AND they ended up getting Coburn anyway in return for Zhitnik.
That's proper drafting and asset management in a nutshell. - Tomahawk
you're thinking of the return for m ric hards
for carter we got jake(7th overall) and couturier(8th overall).. and cousins maybe? |

Exactly. I like a lot of the guys projected to go between 7-15 in this draft. I'd love to have Pulock, Horvat, Zadorov, Domi, Morrissey or one of the others. But they also need to do a good job with the later picks.
That's one reason I keep mentioning trying to do a deal with the Jackets, and drop to 14. They could get a couple good kids, say Morrissey or Domi at 14 and then maybe have a shot at Dickinson, Fucale, or Hagg in the early to mid-20's. - Jsaquella
Love this scenario, if they can get two NHL players out of this draft they need to do it. |

They could get one at 41, but it's more likely at 23 or 24. |

If selecting D is (a) more random (b) takes longer to know the results of and (c) something we are bad at and good at selecting forwards, why bother with trying to select a D-man at all? Keep selecting forwards and if they do well, trade one or more for a (by then) surer bet. |

Shea Weber was taken 41 picks after Braydon Coburn in 2003. The draft is a crap shoot, defensemen especially so.
I do agree that dropping to 25 to add a couple of 2nd rounders is more than I'd prefer dropping, but it's not a bad idea because the Flyers need organizational depth as much, if not more, than they need a Timonen replacement right now.
Pulock isn't going to step in and replace Timonen in a year's time. To expect him-or anyone drafted this June to do so-is asking them to fail. - Jsaquella
Right, but on the other hand Suter was picked 7th, Phaneuf 9th, and Seabrook and 14th. We definitely have a better shot at getting that great defender at 11th. Plus, with the 41st we have a good shot at getting Madison Bowey already. That's my ideal situation. Pulock at 11th and Bowey at 41st. I think we shouldn't go for Nurse, even if he falls to us. We really don't need another Coburn. He's solid, but inconsistent. Organizational depth can be added through trading or signing free agents, imo. We got Gus and Read from free agency. We signed Alt from free agency, and I'm excited to see how he turns out after Lilja's comments. Plus, if we're truly desperate for organizational depth, we can trade Coburn and Mez for a plethora of 2nd rounders, and sign a Streit or Gonchar as a stop-gap. It makes more sense than forfeiting the opportunity at a possible future franchise or 1st pair player, imo. |

Really? I would make both of those absurd and "not going to happen" trades in a split second. No brainers, which is why they won't happen. |

If Pulock was rated as a future franchise player, he wouldn't be a consideration at 11. As it is, he's a very good prospect, with a bright future.
Yes, they can augment the draft with free agency to get system depth. But for every Matt Read or Erik Gustafsson, there have been 5 or 6 Mike Testwuides, Blake Kessels or Shane Harpers, who do nothing but tie up contract slots.
Also, dropping to the 14-19 range still very likely lands them a very good prospect, comparable to Pulock.
If they come out of this draft with Josh Morrissey or Max Domi AND Jason Dic kinson, Zach Fucale or Robert Hagg it's probably better than having Pulock and Bowey. |

This is who I would like to see us draft if were at 11 and he is available..grew up 20 minutes away from where I live, Kid is the real deal.
http://www.mynhldraft.com...raft-Profiles/Ryan-Pulock - Buzzo
He'd be great at 11. But I refuse to lock in on one guy, because the draft rarely goes along with any of the mocks and it almost never goes in like with the rankings.
There's any number of guys that could be there at 11 that would be fantastic picks for the Flyers. Pulock is certainly one of them. |

I'm pretty sure I've had a pizza in Vegas at the California Pizza Kitchen by that name.
Then again it was Vegas, I most likely remembered incorrectly. |
