I don't really watch hockey that way...It's the blatant sh*t that really pisses me off...The elbow to Chara's face in that Ranger series that wasn't call is mind boggling to me... - Flyfreaky
I think it was the Callahan high stick to Chara's face right in front of the ref and no call, that was brutal. |

Why even have refs? - Flyfreaky
Whats even more annoying with the bad refs, is now theres more of them to get in the way. Go back to a three man crew, and let all three make calls. Guys like Grezkey, Messier, and today Crosby always get the benefit of the non call. Thats just the way it is. |

here is the thing.
if the leafs had won and it was the boston fans moaning about poop we'd all be saying "oh its playoff hockey, thats the way it goes"
blaming the refs is childish.
the leafs lost. the refs didnt lose for them. anything else, to me.. is nothing more than whining and crying. - Dozzer
I disagree. The respectable fans are usually aware when the home side gets lucky thanks to some calls/non-calls that were made, and we say as much. The point is that this shouldn't happen as much. The NHL has too much referee-judgment caused controversy. Look at the 'kicking motion' rule. If that wasn't a kick in the OTT/MTL series, I don't know what is. They need to take the judgment out of the call and say if the skate doesn't leave the ice, it's a goal - kick or no kick. |

That's how I watch hockey regardless of who's playing...I'll own up to bad calls that help the Flyers win...I'll still take the win, but with a clean conscience... |

I agree with everything you say, I just don't like the whistle swallowing and they should keep making the blatant calls (good or bad) until the game is over... |

The Leafs lost. I'm not bringing that game into the conversation.
But the "let the boys play" argument doesn't work for me. Because the boys are trying to play, and the other team is trying to prevent them from playing.
The reffing is a joke. And I don't blame the referees one bit. That's how the league wants them to call it, and they do a good job.
They need to tell them to start calling penalties, regardless of time of game or time of season.
Everyone hated the obstruction calls. It was ruining the game. It was a parade to the penalty box.
20 games later, the players got it. And it saved the game.
What's needed is the resolve to keep calling the penalties. And that will just isn't there. |

If Boston lost we had a long list of blame before the Refs were even thought of.

That's also BS. "Let them play" near the end of a close game... then it inevitably escalates until there's a blatant call that can't be ignored and one team benefits. Why not call the whole game consistently. |

We've gotten WAY past the "damn refs" thing.
We're at the "let's review the complete rule book and the way the game is called" stage. |

If Orr did it he would have been suspended for 18 games... - Flyfreaky
Keep in mind that Orr got 2 minutes for merely attempting to throw an elbow at Chara's head (caught him in the shoulder).
JVR, one of our best players a series, gets his nose broken on a play that even the Google Earth cameras could have seen was a blatant elbow and it's nothing because it's the playoffs and penalties are decided by coin flip.
I just don't understand how it's possible to play a fair 60+ minutes in these conditions.
And the NHL is the only league that has so many that "Oh well, we lost track" is a legitimate excuse. |
