Bolland kills me. He looks and sees leddy in front of crease and Kruger in the slot and whips it around. Then the play comes back to the middle and instead of tie up sticks, he whacks away. Momentum killer. Sigh |

Bolland with the turnover and Crawford has to hold that initial shot. That is a killer of a goal. 1-1 game but Detroit was taking it to the Hawks for most of that period. - RetiredGoalie
Most of the period?? I'd say Hawks controlled for first 15 minutes or so. Wings made a surge, Hawks kind of came back a bit but then that late goal. |

I was pretty happy with the effort in the first 20. Torrid pace, great forecheck, the d were pretty responsible, Crow was cool, calm and collected BUT
Toews with ANOTHER PHUCK'N DUMBASS PENALTY ?
PK bails him out.
Boys know what they have to do. Just hope the puck LUCK is with us and the boards at the Joe don't kill us.

Hawks need a better effort over the next 40 if they want game 7. - Tweek
They need to keep up the intensity, which they had for better than the first half of the period. And yeah, that was a sloppy by Bolls. You could sort of see it coming then. |

I thought it was a fairly even period, a little more advantage to the Hawks, but that late goal was a killer. Still what you'd call a pretty good road period.

The Toews penalty: why? Two players going at each other, each trying equally to move the other out - and Toews gets a goalie interference? |

Did I see Kaner double shifting with the Shaw line instead of Stalberg , or did he just caught out there with them? I don't recall seeing 25 out there towards the end of the period, but maybe I missed something as I was gnawing off my finger nails |

Toews has to be more aware of where he's jousting. Looked like he nudged the d-man right on to Howard, who was justifiably miffed. Can't take those penalties 190 feet from your own net. CAN'T DO IT. |

Hawks looked like they were trying to protect that one goal lead for the whole game. Very little offensive pressure 5 on 5. It's almost like that goal woke the red wings up. Just amazes me how this team runs hot and cold. They look unbeatable for five minutes and then are chasing their tails for the next ten. That's why they're in the position they are in . . . . Unable to maintain a consistent effort for sixty minutes. They should have been smelling blood after that first goal. |

Hawks came out very strong... Wings slowly turned the momentum.
I agree, good road period.

Disagree. Thought the wings were pushing the pace from the Toews penalty on.

Yeah I had a bad feeling that a goal against was coming ever since Datsyuk went around 4 Hawks standing still and nearly roofed it on Crawford. Hawks didn't play bad but really should've gone into the intermission up one...... |

Not sure what Toews could have - or should have - done to avoid it - they looked like they were going at each other equally. |

With that said, they are in good position if they can come out strong in the second. Need to avoid falling behind if possible.

Thought the Hawks carried the first half of the period, Wings definitely carried the last 5 of it. That late goal is a gut check.

I don't think Stalberg ever learned how to check when he was growing up learning to play. He is a big guy and has missed more chances to make a difference.
Also -- Roszival is killing us tonight -- I think he's got nothing left in the tank. And yet we have Leddy with the least amount of ice time . . . again.
Couple other thoughts -- do the Hawks have a "gentleman's agreement" with the Wings to NOT CRUSH Kronwall??? Seriously, WTF -- we've had more than a few chances to light the guy up and get him off the ice and yet our guys are either pulling up or intentionally avoiding hitting him. After all the damage Kronwall has done to guys over the years. Pathetic.
It's also clear that Sharp must have gotten reinjured or is hurting pretty badly -- he's not right out there and I think we've seen his best last game. Not so much tonight. He had the 2 on 1 with Kane and all he had to do was pop a little pass back to Kane, instead tries to get to the front of the net but with NO strength. Easy forecheck against him it seemed. |

Agreed. Go up 2-0 and that likely is the game right there with the way Detroit plays and how they really haven't been able to put much past Crawford.
Amazed the Hawks didn't push harder for goal #2..... |

No one in the NHL maintains "60 minute efforts" the other teams are too good. |

Yeah, I supposed you'd call a 1-1 first on the road not too bad.
Gotta try to get that momentum back here a bit.
I agree if Hawks go down a goal here it's gonna be a tough road... |

Crawford needed to soak up that first shot ... |

Ebbs and flows, highs and lows throughout a game but that doesn't mean you let up on the intensity. Lets move on to period two and see how the Hawks handle that late goal. |
