I disagree. - GirouxForTheShow
Their not as good as people think but not as bad as they showed this year. To really compete for a championship they have a lot of work to do. |

Im just busting balls. Although in a sense I still disagree. I don't think they have as much work to do as I do think they just need to be patient. I don't know as to whether they aren't as good as people think or the 2011-2012 season the entire team had peak/career years. I bet Schenn and Couts are gonna pick up the pace a bit this year, hopefully our D stays even remotely healthy. |

What happened to Portland? I thought they'd come out buzzing in the 3rd and they couldn't keep the puck out of their net.
Were the goalies flailing or was that just me? The commentators were going on as if every goal was the tournament highlight. |

I think it's 100% impossible for any sports fan to be absolutely unbiased towards any player, especially one on his favorite team. You can have an open mind, but for the most part, fans have a personal belief that a player either is or is not doing an adequate job and deserves to stay. Some lean more strongly one way or the other. You seem to believe that he's done a good job of living up to his contract and deserves at least another year to show that he is capable of helping the team succeed. Some lean the other way. I think he CAN play at the level expected of him and help the team, it's just a matter whether or not he can play at the level this team needs him to in order to be winners. - jmatchett383
I agree with your basic premise. But you have misrepresented my position. I believe that Bryzgalov is a very good player. I believe that he can play better. But I also feel that the team play in front of him, has greatly contributed to the lack of results from the goaltending position. I'm open to giving it one more Season, where hopefully both of those situations are improved. And we'll see what happens. If it doesn't get to the level where it needs to be. Regardless of why. I'll be driving the buyout bus!

We only need a number one and number two or three defensemen. No biggie. |

Getting tunnel-vision for the "best player available" at the time has bitten the Flyers in the behind time and time again... Lindros, Briere, Bryz... they avoided huge blunders in the Suter/Parise courtings and Weber O.S. w/o knowing that the CBA lowering the upper-limit and cap-recapture (not to mention lost Jagr and Carle in the shuffle). - Tomahawk
How has Lindros and Briere bitten the Flyers in the behind? In Lindros, they added a player who truly changed the game. Elevated them to a top team in the League. And went to the Cup Finals. Flyers can't control some of the injuries that happened. Briere more then lived up to his contract, and the investment made in him. He was one of the top playoff performers since the lockout. And was also part of a Cup Finals team. The Bryzgalov situation hasn't fully played out yet. It's never a blunder to go after top players. |

My biggest issue with Bryzgalov is getting your bang for the buck. He has not performed to that level no matter the reason. I truly believe the situation can go either way (staying or going). |

Imagine if the compensation involved multiple lottery picks... they would have lost good players to get out of cap-hell this summer, not to mention all the summers henceforth.... hard to stay competitive then.
It could have made the Kessel trade look like solid gold in comparison. - Tomahawk
Since were playing imagine what if. Imagine if the Flyers had gotten Weber, and solidified the defense. And the Flyers were still playing right now?
Also imagine if the Flyers added Weber, that might mean that they didn't feel the need to re-up Timonen. That in combination with the buy out of Briere would keep the Flyers from being in Cap hell.
If you want to spend Cap money, and make cuts elsewhere to compensate for it. A franchise defenseman is a good type of player to do what with.

Bob Clarke owned or still owns a gym Ryan went too. He is good friends with Ryan's Dad. There was abuse in thier family and the Flyers helped out big time during that time. Clarke vouched for him at the OHL draft. And on and one. BTW bet you didn't know his names was Bobby Stevensen. - youarewrong
Don't care what his real name is. Don't need to know that. Everyone is aware of the connection with Clarke. I still don't see any of it as having such a huge affect on his development as a player.

We've talked about this before. We have different ways we want it to be handled. But as far as results are concerned. I think we're on the same page.

1. Briere is getting bought out with 25% of his contract left to go, having only topped 30-goals twice, and never having led the team once in scoring despite being paid to do so. The value return on the contract has been poor in terms of production, and is indirectly a part of the reason why players like Umberger and Lupul were let go because of cap reasons. The PO numbers are oft cited, but he's never come anywhere close to being the 95-point player he was signed to be.

i think the only issue is really that bryz is overpaid for what youre getting. although the same can be true about a lot of goalies. he is getting paid to be a game changer regardless of the system in front of him, however, in actuality he is more of a player who will play in line with what is in front of him. |

Be careful how you calculate Briere's value to the Flyers over the years. I think he's done a lot to help the development of Claude Giroux and other young Flyers. |

Oh the drama! That's not fallout. That is choices. There is no perpetual media circus. And a compliance buyout doesn't hurt the team in any way. It helps them!

if you could trade either richards or carter back for the pieces the flyers got back for them, would you seriously entertain that notion? |
