Braydon Coburn was supposed to be the next Chris pronger. It's not an exact science. IMO I'd use that first round pick to get a proven player that's available via trade now considering the shallow ufa market and team needs.

A package centered around the 11th pick for Edler?

i definitely think there is merit to either approach. it all revolves around the cost, which im sure as you say, will be astronomical.

Especially in this year, where the draft is deeper than usual.

Not to be a preacher, but I am going to give you a story, as someone who was there, and also did other things. What made me quit cold turkey.

My best friends brother was in my boat also at the time. He was actually a promising med student, a lot of friends, popular kid, whatever. One day he had a panic attack/break from the drugs he never came back from.

Diagnosed with schizophrenia, and although he has somewhat recovered... I'm sure it wasn't just the drugs, but something to keep in mind young one.

Put on your glasses:

"Like I mentioned before, it's a great trade on paper, but it just pushed the window farther into the future. The young cores are never given enough time together for all the experiences, hard lessons, failures and mistakes to amount to anything. The constant turnover always guarantees that lessons will have to be relearned, failures and mistakes will have to be repeated, playoff experiences from the past are lost... instead of a progression, it's a hamster wheel."

I think you need to reread what you wrote. And other posts. Because you've mentioned Carter about 4 times as part of an example of how the Flyers have lacked patience. Mostly I'm wondering how the Carter trade can be both a great trade and a mistake at the same time. Which is it?

I think you just conceded that somebody else had a valid point... is this some sort of watershed moment we we're witnessing from you?

- Tomahawk

Correction. I said you have somewhat of a point. In that the Flyers need to be a little more patient at times. But you oversell it. And over dramatize it. and blow it out of proportion.

Somebody already did that.

- Tomahawk

Proves my point. Thanks for posting. You ignored one of my questions. So I'll answer it for you. Out of the top 12 Forwards in icetime last Season for the Kings in winning the Cup. Only 4 were drafted and developed by the Kings. The rest were obtained by other means.

More then one way to skin a cat.

Depends on what's in the package. I'd give them either b. schenn, Simmons or hartnell but not all three and only one at that and maybe another pick and non roster prospect.

Would be a good deal. But I think Vancover could get a higher pick.

I've had tons of friends go down roads that separated us, and I've never dabbled outside of my comfort zone. Im a pot guy, that's about it. Always appreciate the other side of the coin though, too much can go wrong.

Know what I'd rather do?

Send them a package maybe involving Hartnell or Brayden Schenn.

Bring in Edler, and draft Pulock/Zadorov.

I agree. I'd be perfectly happy with that. Although I have doubts that Vancouver is really going to move Edler.

as do i. young defenders who excel at nearly all aspects of the game arent typically the type of player id look to move when starting a retool. but stranger things have happened. hed be one of the best available by far, should the wind blow that way

Me thinks we've gotta be a part of this draft. Over in the Vancouver boards people were suggesting trading Edler plus picks for Simmonds
Here we suggest Simmonds plus the 11th pick in what is supposed to be the draft of the decade plus more picks
I think we should
1) Trade Simmonds OR Hartnell for Edler. If we have to add acouple mid round picks and prospects then whatever
2)Try to trade something for a second 1st round pick in this draft. We did it in the '03 draft and we got Carter and Richards as a result. Maybe Coburn + a 1st rounder a couple years down the road for a pick between 12 and 25? The Islanders, the Jackets, and the Ducks were all pretty close. I know they could all benefit greatly from a guy like Coburn. Either way, this is not a draft we should be missing out on. I cringe at the idea of even trading out of the top 15.

yeah wasnt sure if you were still including the pick or not as well as the roster player. sorry for any confusion. hell of a lot to give up, and thats a really good offer should vancouver be serious about moving him, but i think it would be worth it. already has the growing pains out of the way, but is still young enough to be relevant in 5 years
