Whats the issue??
- Jimmy_wiener

Well, if Smith came to Philly the issue would be a non-performing team in front of him.

Really?? I think he will be one of the First. You Guys need Jagr back....ASAP.
- Jimmy_wiener

I was bummed when Jagr was allowed to leave. Can't say he'd have been the difference in getting to the playoffs, but his experience and work ethic are very valuable to a young player.

The Flyers front office has said he'll be back, but that could well just be noise.

Personally, I'd buy him out, along with Briere.

Bill, I posted to yesterday's article. A trade scenario that works for both teams.
Flyers get: K. Yandle and 12th pick. Phoenix gets: B. Coburn, M. Read, N. Cousins and 41st pick. Flyers then take both R. Pullock and best player available. Your thoughts?

- bushhunter

I think Maloney would turn that down. If it's the #11 pick instead of #41, or one of Schenn or Couturier, he might go for it (but I wouldn't want to see the Flyers do it).

I think Coburn has a NTC and I don't know anyone who would acutally want to play in Phoenix, not until management has been resolved.

Plus what Bill said.

^^ This. I thought he worked really well with whichever young guy they put him with. He hates it in Boston, you can see it.

Yeah, the fact that Phoenix wouldn't say yes kinda trumps Coburn's NTC

No. Tried that whole "Sign a Vezina candidate from Phoenix" route.

Actually, I like Smith, but I worry that he'd have issues behind Laviolette's system. Also, he'll be expensive.

- Jsaquella

I'm not a huge fan of Smith, but he strikes me as a guy that really endears himself to his teammates. Like Bouch... not the most naturally talented guy, but he works his tail off and guys appreciate and will rally around that.

There's a lot of things the Flyers need. But Jagr is not one of them.

I agree to a point, if B. Coburn would agree to go, we are giving 4 for 2. N. Cousins is a 100point OHL scorer. He is not chopped liver. Phoenix can also draft someone decent or trade back into the 1st with the 41st pick. I know getting the 12th pick would be hard but I think we have the assets to get it plus K. Yandle without giving up our 11th pick. The Flyers must establish a good young pile of defensive players coming up. I believe they can with multiple picks in this draft.
Sooner or later Phoenix is going to give up K. Yandle. I think this is a decent offer.
If we have to sweeten it then do it. Amnesty Bryz and Briere. Pick up another goalie. But we would have to sign a good winger, maybe give N. Horton big $$

Phoenix would NEVER make that deal. However if they would, I would immediately drive Coburn, Read and Cousins to the airport!

From all I've heard Phoenix is asking a king's ransom for Yandle. They would most likely want Couturier or B. Schenn plus the 11th pick and the Flyers aint making that deal.

He's firey, and shows his emotions. That would play well with the fans, too.

he had some success in Tampa before the injury issues, but I think his contract could be prohibitive.

It's probably not good enough to get Yandle alone, nevermind the 12th pick.

Even if Coburn waives his NTC, he's coming off an injury and a season where he struggled. That means his value is at a low point. In fact, it could make him untradeable, until he shows he's healthy and can rebound.

Cousins had a good year in the OHL, but most projections have him being a 3rd line agitator type, who can chip in some offense. He's more Tyler Kennedy than Rick Nash, plus he has questions about his two way play.

Read definitely fills a need, but he's not enough to get Yandle, at least if the rumors are correct that Phoenix wants a ton for the defenseman. They have no need to move him right now, he's signed to a decent cap hit and term.

11th pick for Edler?
Kinda scary, but I could see the Flyers doing this.
I'm not sure Edler is really available, but he would be exactly what they need.
And there is no guarantee that whoever gets picked 11th even pans out.

The cap consequences of a deal like this are huge too.

When Tyler Kennedy doesn't play the Flyers, he looks like a career fourth liner.

Not really. He does especially kill the Flyers, but he played well when the Pens finally got him back in the lineup. But that's the kind of guy Cousins will likely be. Feisty, chippy and will chip in a bit of offense, rather than being a top 6 guy counted on to score.

I'd be ok with this, if they could then pair the 41st pick with a prospect and get a last 1st rounder.

His 2010-2011 season? Sure.

Lately? Not so much.

He was a minus player on the Pens this year in 46 games. I didn't even think that possible on that team.

+/- is sort of like tits on a bull...only slightly more useful.

He's played well in the playoffs for the Pens. 5 points(3 goals) in 7 p'off games. Also, pretty consistently scores 30+ point and 10-15 goals a year over his career.

That's likely what Cousins will be like.

Every team is going to ask for Couturier first.
Puts the Flyers in a tough spot when entertaining trades for a top pair/puck moving D man.

Here is the smell test that I use for trades. You covet a top player on another team. Are you giving up something on your team that you covet, and don't want to give up. If not, chances are it's not a realistic deal that another team would accept. Quantity, does not make up for quality. It's not foolproof, as sometimes there are other circumstances. but in most cases, that will hold true

Man I hate that guy Kennedy that is....My wife and I were talking and I told her Pens by far are the most hated franchise of mine. Usually you dont like a team there is a guy or two and the rest not so bad...But to have Neal, Malkin, Crosby, Kennedy, Letang, Knuitz and last but not least Cooke! Hope the B's lay the smack down!
