11th pick for Edler?
Kinda scary, but I could see the Flyers doing this.
I'm not sure Edler is really available, but he would be exactly what they need.
And there is no guarantee that whoever gets picked 11th even pans out.
The cap consequences of a deal like this are huge too. - Marc D
I would do it in a heartbeat. It wouldn't take long for me to agree to that deal. |

Every team is going to ask for Couturier first.
Puts the Flyers in a tough spot when entertaining trades for a top pair/puck moving D man. - Marc D
Sure they will. But that's why you negotiate. |

Here is the smell test that I use for trades. You covet a top player on another team. Are you giving up something on your team that you covet, and don't want to give up. If not, chances are it's not a realistic deal that another team would accept. Quantity, does not make up for quality. It's not foolproof, as sometimes there are other circumstances. but in most cases, that will hold true - MJL
Thats not always the case though some players can be had for less than what you think. Jackets didnt give up a whole lot for Gaborik, yes they gave up good players but I dont think they were crying to rid themselves of Brasssard. Same for when Rangers got Nash, Ansimov and Dubinsky werent players they had to have. Now looking back I think Rangers would have liked to have more scoring and the Nash trade so far success wise didnt do much. |

Same here, think Homer would be all over that too. If Yandle will require a hall in return Im sure Edler wont be given away. Edler is a pretty darn good d-man, sure he has his flaws but so does Yandle. |

Yep, it's not always the case. Which is why I said it's not foolproof, and there are other circumstances that come into play. Such as cap issues. And quite frankly, sometimes just really piss poor GM's such as Columbus's at the time. |

I'm still not convinced that Van will move Edler. I hear the rumors. But don't understand it. |

In the case of Nash, the player expressed a desire to leave and in fact had asked for a trade. They also got a pretty good return for a guy with a $7.8mm cap hit and somewhat underwhelming numbers.
Conversely, the Rangers got a pretty good return for Gaborik. Brassard is a talented young player, who can produce when healthy. Moore is a very good young defenseman. Again, cap hit was a factor in the trade.
In the case of Yandle, there's no monetary reason to deal him. He has a fair cap hit for his skills and Phoenix doesn't have a disgruntled guy demanding to be dealt. |

Say this happens
Flyers trade their first rd pick for Edler or even another established defenseman with a 5M+ cap hit.
The Flyers then have to dump salary, or do they have room assuming Briere is bought out?
I believe Bryz is back next season and they defer any decision on buying him out until the following June. |

I think Briere being brought out is a given. If I could acquire Edler, I'm then looking to move a defenseman. Probably Meszaros. |

They could do it with the LTIR exemption on Pronger. |

I think they want something better than tye mcginn and I like the kid. Say, B.Schenn or Wayne train perhaps. |

That's even better.
Could you imagine if they then get Robert Hagg at #24 and Edler?
Seems like a pipe dream.
But then I thought you were nucking futs
when you picked SJ over LA! |

Yep. To get, you have to give. It's a pretty good rule of thumb. |

Agreed. But from everything I've read, they're very pleased with their defensive core, even without Edler.
And they probably want to upgrade their offense rather than acquire picks. We'll see. |

Very likely. I'd trade Simmonds in a deal for Edler, if necessary (depending on the other pieces). |

If Van offered us Edler for Simmonds... It'd be hard for me to say yes, but even harder to say no. |

The Flyers front office has said he'll be back, but that could well just be noise.
Personally, I'd buy him out, along with Briere. - Jsaquella
despite the eskin tweet, luukko was also saying it was 'up to bryz'. so while they seem to be leaning on bringing him back, i think there's wiggle room there based on bryz's thoughts and the mktplace for goalies.
bryz holds the cards because he gets a minimum of 23 mil and the flyers have to weigh the opp cost of paying him 8MM nxt yr vs ~1.6 for 14. this is assuming that the flyers are def going to go the CBO route...which i don't see how they don't given the recapture risk/ performance...but who knows? |

As would I. I'd hate to give him up. But Edler is exactly what the Flyers need. And I think he's a better all around player then Yandle is. |

What happens if Bryz posts a .915 SV% and a 2.30 GAA. And the Flyers go deep into the playoffs to the Conference Finals, with Bryz playing equally well in the playoffs? Do you think they buy him out because of the recapture risk? |

He isnt as dynamic an offensive player (he is no slouch in the offensive zone though) and he is a better two way player... He and Schenn could make for a very solid top pairing...
It also makes for a bit of a tough situation for the Flyers (although a good one in a way) in who do you make the 7th d-man.
Ideally I'd look to move Meszy or Coburn for a forward and a defensive prospect...
