They are "connected" because the current management in each city had a substancial impact in the kids hockey career. Ryan more-so in Philly. The difference is Philly didn't have the resources to get Ryan at the draft, while Colorado does. - youarewrong
Eh.
The "where did the kid grow up and play" item is very far down on my list of deciding factors. |

Nah, but I like Leino's game, if he can stay healthy.

That's been the thing with Vanek. He's really never had an elite center, such as Giroux feeding him the puck, or vice versa. - Powerslave
But couturier and a 1st for a 29 year old? I just can't support that |

I hear ya. Tough call. Depends how far away you think you are.
But, I don't think you guys are rebuilding, are you? A player who averages 35 goals/season can't help you? |

As it should be. But the fact that Jones and McKinnon are very close on the "who is better" list then you have to start looking at the other deciding factors, such as Mckinnon would not likley start right away since they have Statsny, Duchene, and O'Reily. Jones would be a draw for the fans. And Jones would likely ride out a career longer in Colorado then McKinnon would.
IMO if I were a Colorado fan I would say take Jones. |

Preventing goals is just as important, and Couturier is among the league's best defensive centers. |

Couturier should only be moved for a defenseman. I'll give you Coburn, Couturier, Read, and a First for Vanek, Myers, and Miller.
we will even throw in Briere. |

No I consider us playoff contenders, but we still have a youth core that is only a couple years out |

I couldn't disagree more that the numbers are the result of playing with cream of the crop players. His numbers are the result of making plays. Not just being there. All top teams that have top puck moving defenseman, play with top offensive players. Are their numbers the result of that also? Edler is a dam good player. - MJL
I said his numbers are inflated, not that he's been a stat-mooching pylon.
Do you call offering up an article by a beat writer, looking under the surface? - MJL
Philly/American hockey beats are one thing -- their Canadian counterparts are another thing entirely.
Let's just say this: Botchford's word on the Canucks >>>>>>>>>> Your word.
I hope the Canucks decide to trade him, and we can benefit from it. He's exactly what the Flyers need on the backend. - MJL
Hey, I agree. The price may just be too high. There are other options out there -- no need to dismiss them out of hand. |

He knows his hockey history in Philadelphia, was very close with Bobby Clarke growing up, and idolized guys like John LeClair growing up.
His favorite coach he’s ever played for was Kevin Dineen and he even used to play pickup basketball with Paul Holmgren at the age of 15.
That's just what I've read though. Not sure it counts as a "substantial impact" but it just means he's been around some guys who are still in the organization since he was a kid. |

And Ed Snider helped his mother pay for Ryan's hockey youth expenses since they were not the most wealthy people. |

I thought they would take Jones no questions asked but after watching every game of the Memorial Cup I could never pass on MacKinnon. It would be the worst draft mistake they have ever made. |

Still please consider that Edler will be playing with similar talent here. He'll most likely play most of his time when Giroux's line is out, and he'll most likely be out there on a pair with either Kimmo or Schenn. I'd dare to say they're both better than Bieksa. If his stats are inflated from playing with great talent in Vancouver, they'll probably be equally inflated here. |

If you think Kimmonen and Schenn are better than Bieksa you probably need to start staying up later. Everything else I can agree with. |

Oh, I beg to differ. Have you seen their drafting record:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w...ado_Avalanche_draft_picks
First round picks:
Marc Denis
Peter Ratchuk
Kevin Grimes
Martin Skoula
Scott Parker
Mikhail Kuleshov
Vaclav Nedorost
Jonas Johansson
Joey Hishon
Granted, they've had some hits (Tanguay, Shattenkirk, Landeskog, the 2010 class), but they're not a top-notch drafting team. They almost make the Flyers look good. |

He and Voracek make the ginger duo. That kind of shared gingervitis is greater than any bond. |

When he and Voracek dyed their mustaches, they kind of looked like the Mario brothers. Does that count? |

He is kind of ginger... hmmm...
Seriously though, gotta see him sustain it over the length of an entire season before we can put him in the Sedins/Claude stratosphere, no?
or maybe Giraude Cliroux? - jmatchett383
Lol, brother from another mother? Shouldn't they have the same last name?
Maybe Claude Giroux and Taude (Todd) Giroux? |

What you said, was simply an innacurracy in my opinion. That you tried to use to lower the value of Edler as a player.
Philly/American hockey beats are one thing -- their Canadian counterparts are another thing entirely.
Let's just say this: Botchford's word on the Canucks >>>>>>>>>> Your word.

You're entitled to that opinion. But the reality is that regardless, that is irrelevant to how good of a player Edler is. And whether he is a player that the Flyers could use to bolster their defense. That's what is important.
Hey, I agree. The price may just be too high. There are other options out there -- no need to dismiss them out of hand. - Tomahawk
I'm not dismissing anything. I want the best player available, who is the best fit. And out of the defenseman who we know are available. Or who are rumored to be available. That's Edler in my opinion. And I would pay a pretty high price to acquire him. |
