I'm sure they would like to have him too but obviously there is something going on there that we don't know about. I'm still a little ticked that they let Spurgeon get away and kept Ness instead - Vukota
I was going to use that as an example of what I hope the Kichton thing doesn't become, but thought I'd open a whole "Hindsight!" can of worms |

It's believed NYI would, under right circumstances, have interest in VAN G Roberto Luongo, tho 1st order of biz is to gauge cost on Nabokov.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Nabokov is UFA. As for circumstances on Luongo, almost goes without saying it would mean VAN taking Rick DiPietro for compliance buyout.
Have at it...

BTW, NYI are not "tolling" contract of G Tim Thomas. That means his NHL contract expires this summer and is UFA with no obligation to anyone - eichiefs9
I just don't see it happening. I would take Luongo but in a couple of years it will be DP all over again. A big contract and declining skills

Yeah I'm not killing them for the move because it happens to a lot of teams but Spurgeon has turned out to be ok so far and who knows if Ness will ever make it to the show and stay there |

I like Luongo and still curse the day we traded him, but there's simply no way I want us anywhere near that contract. Paying the guy until he's 43 years old with a $5mil annual cap hit is insane. Even his buyout is terribly unattractive for Vancouver. Hell, Lou himself said his contract is garbage!

I think the "right circumstances" would be such a cluster F that it'd be easier for Vancouver to just find another taker.

I'd love to see #15 overall packaged with some other assets to bring in either a top pair defensive d-man or a top line RW. i would even like to see #15 packaged to bring in a top level goaltender if Garth isn't sold on Poulin or Nilsson. It certainly wouldn't be the end of the world if Garth held onto the pick and selected another prospect, but that pick is an awfully valuable trading chip to use to address the most glaring and hardest holes to fill on this team. - Jethro09
Here we go again......REMINDER EVERYONE: GARTH DON'T TRADE. Not for players at least. Someone remind me again when/who was the actual last player for player trade made by Garth? Not a player for draft pick or draft pick for draft pick, an actual straight up you give me "X" and I'll give you "Y" transaction?

Heres's the question: Would you rather have the $4.5M hit of RDP for the next nine years, knowing he will never round into form and be a capable NHL goaltender again, or would you want Luongo's 9 year hit of $5M annually, knowing at least you'll get 3-5 years of solid goaltending out of him (barring an injury) before the contract is an albatross at the end?
I like Luongo, I don't like his contract. I'd rather see the team buy RDP out this summer and pass on trading for Luongo. I'd rather see them instead go after a guy like Bernier. I think its a better investment for the Isles. Maybe not for another team,. but definitely for the Isles. |

if you lock up luongo for 9 years; not only are the isles throwing in the towel on poulin, mikko koskinen, and Nilsson but you are also losing TONS of trading leverage with those prospects...just a thought |

It all depends on what VAN wants in return... Obviously for Snow to make a deal it would have to benefit the Isles greatly and not give up a lot assets. Highly unlikely anything happens IMO. |

Can't blame a guy for forgetting that those trades.....That was the equivalent of throwing out the trash after doing Lou Lam a favor(Rolst4Hunter) - they should have packaged Reasoner in on that trade too. THAT might have impressed me. SO, like I said, with bad grammar on purpose, Garth Don't Trade. He's missing a gene or something. Very good at the draft but subpar overall as a GM. This rebuild is not over yet, tho it could be, with better men at the helm.
Better MEN, meaning our coach, leads to another curious thing...since the Rangers have an opening in the coaching department, why is Doug Weight getting serious consideration from more than one media outlet? (HINT DEE: HERE'S a REAL Storyline.....) If the Rangers next head coach comes straight from our bench, what does that speak volumes to, about our organization?

Truthfully, I'm not seeing the benefit to the Isles in trading for Luongo. Yes, he's better right now than Nabokov, Poulin, Nilsson & Koskinen. But will he be better than them in 5 years? Doubt it. Also, I don't see how bringing in a 33 or 34 year old on a 9 year deal benefits a team who's core players are in their mid 20's.
If the Isles are dead set against buying out RDP, then I'd consider trading RDP for Luongo. At least with Luongo's contract, you're getting back a guy who is a top tier NHL goaltender who plays rather than a parking cone in a jersey who can't even stop a beachball in the "A" when he actually can dress. At least the guy you're tied to for nine years can play if you have Luongo.
The best move for the Isles is to buy out RDP this summer and not trade for Luongo. If they are going to trade for a goaltender, make it one who can grow with this core (hint: Bernier). |

Wouldn't that hold true if they keep DP and not let him rot in BP? You can get luongo and get 3 or 4 good years out of him and then the best of the young 3 will take over with Luongo as the backup or down in BP to finish his career. If the plan is to buyout DP in the off-season then yeah you don't make that deal |

Dude, Doug Weight should not have been coach of this team this past season...if he was, you may well have been among the first to criticize them putting someone else with no experience into the coaching position. I may well have been the second to say something. It can't be "damned if you do, damned if you don't" all the time with the Isles. They'd have been dumb for naming Weight coach, and now they'll be dumb if someone else does it?

Garth's not savvy enuf to do Vancouver that favor without and coming out on bottom of the deal. They'd ask for Strome or Nino or something else and Garth would hang up the phone.
Also, Wang did the RDP contract himself. (Milbury did Yashin) NO WAY Wang buys it out unless Rick is in a wheelchair, in which point insurance would cover it. A Chinese businessman would never admit such a mistake. Ricky is ours, like it or not, at least for the foreseeable future. |

Assistants leave for head coaching jobs with other teams all the time. Rangers have had 7 different coaches in the last how many years? So if they hire Weight that means the Isles made a mistake? What if he turns into the next Trottier? I still think he will be the next coach of the Isles down the road. Plus if he is under contract with the Isles I don't think Wang would let him go to be honest |

Habs not bringing back Michael Ryder next season, could be a great goal scoring RW for Tavares, and...wait for it.... a realistic option. |
