The compliance buyout I thought was a one lump sum payment of 2/3rds the remaining money on the contract?
DiPietro would get a $24 mil check. - dadeadhead
I think you're right. I think these figures could be the amortization of the cap hits (??)
But I have no idea and I DIDN'T stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. |

Draft Mackinnon - sbroads24
Why would Florida trade down? Both them and the Oilers would probably only trade out for a ridiculous overpayment of NHL ready players. Would have to be something like:
Myers + 8 + Nelson for Florida/Tampa's pick. |

Edmonton might move down. People way exaggerate what it takes to move up on the draft. We moved up 7 spots last year for Girgensons in the top 15 for a 2nd round pick that they gave us the year before. |

Moving up from 21 to 14...the difference in skill level between those two picks is usually miniscule. Chances are both players drafted in that area will be relatively close in terms of production but the same can't be said for whoever is going 2nd overall. That guy will likely be an elite player with the potential to win a couple of individual awards versus drafting a very good player at 7,8,15 or 16.
I'll use last years draft as an example:
How much better is Girgensons(14th) compared to Laughton(20th)? Now compare that to Derrick Pouliout(8th) versus Alex Galchenyuk (2nd). It may not take as much to move up from 21st to 14, but it will definitely take a kings ransom to get into the top three. |

Ok but how much better is Galchenyuk than Trouba and Pouliot? I agree FLA won't trade that pick and it was just a scenario, however Edmonton IMO would gladly take a solid roster player like Sekera and move back 9 spots, you gotta think they want to have a competitive team sometime soon |

Much better (although I am fond of Trouba). Adding Sekera doesn't make them a great playoff team, he's a solid 2nd pair defensemen, those guys are available all the time on the trade market and in free agency. If Monahan falls to 7, there's no way Edmonton deals that pick for sekera and to move back in the draft.
I agree they will be looking to be competitive ASAP but I have to think that they'll probably want to package that pick with a prospect and roster player for someone far better than Sekera (i.e Yandle) |

There's no way IMO that PHO gives up Yandle to move up a few spots. Maybe Gormley. |

Is there a reason you compared Laughton instead of Jankowski, who went in the actual pick that Buffalo traded from? |

Yes there is, 20% because Laughton and Girgensons play the same position but mostly because the Flames are idiots. They drafted a guy that in all likely hood they could have gotten in the second round with the pick we gave them. |

Well Jankowski plays center too. Like Girg, he also was going to be a freshman for an NCAA team. While I really like the way Girgensons developed this year and am excited for his future, a part of me wishes we stayed put at 21 and kept both 2nd round picks.
We couldve had like Gaunce + McCabe + Frk over Girgensons + McCabe |
