Islanders trade:
2013 1st Rd Pick (#15)
Calvin DeHaan
to
Los Angeles Kings:
Jonathan Bernier
Although adding DeHaan might be a slight overpayment... I want a young goalie (24 I think) to grow with this team and lead them. Even tho he hasnt played in the Playoffs, he has been there and has felt what its like to win the Cup.
Thoughts??? - Bags502
I really like this trade a lot. Dehaan cant seem to stay healthy but if he does he can be a great asset to any team. Problem is I don't think Snow will trade the pick at all |

I would think for bernier he would? Young, good, goaltenders are hard to come by. Relatively unproven bit he's going to be a good one. He wouldn't think twice if the option was there. |

As much as I want Bernier... The way Okposo played down the stretch and in the playoffs, Ill give him another year. If he can put a full season together you are looking at 30goals. Plus, he is part of that close knit group of young guys the Isles have. Might effect them more then we think if traded away.
Id still prefer my trade option above...

these are killing me, these guys are in for such a world of hurt when they buy him out.
What about Strome and Reinhart for Lou
Luongo for 1st (15th), 2nd and Neiderreiter. Essentially, they're giving up picks since Nino doesn't seem to wanna play there.
Luongo for Nino + 1st.
They want to dump Dipietro to the canucks? then add one of strome/reinhart/okposo/bailey
I would do Lu for Dipietro, Niderreiter and Brock Nelson. That would give us a big centre and a talented winger. With the Islanders, anything is possible. Didn't the Islanders have some crazy offer on the table last year at the draft?
This would show us how bad the ownership in Vancouver wants to win. That's a big chunk of money to pay to Dippietro for doing nothing for us.
VAN: Kyle Okposo, Brock Nelson, Nino Niederreiter, Scott Mayfield, Rick DiPietro (Compliance Buyout), 1st (2013)
NYI: Roberto Luongo, Alex Edler, Alex Burrows
To Vancouver:
Rick DiPietro
Nino Niederreiter
Rights to Mark Streit
Brock Nelson
To NY Islanders:
Roberto Luongo
Alexander Edler
Conditional 4th round pick- 2014- Pending Mark Streit re-signing
I'll give this a try:
To Vancouver: Nino Niederreiter, Travis Hamonic, 2013 1st, Rick DiPietro
To NY Islanders: Roberto Luongo, David Booth
If necessary throw our first in
bobby luo booth tanev 4rd rounder for nino niederreiter, travis hamonic and rick depietro 2nd rounder done deal nyi gets a solid allstar goalie and some scoring punch and rid of depietro we obtain a young left winger sniper and a great future right handed top four 4 and a possibly ok 2nd round prospect
buy out option on rick depietro will be painfull but owner raised ticket prices in playoffs and this season so the rich guy im sure can afford it

So Isles didnt offer a contract to Kichton or Theoret, they are both going back into the draft but the Isles did extend Graham, Leduc, Pelech and Pokka.
Kichton wanted 2-3rd Rd pick money...
(81pts, 74pts, and 85pts last 3 years a dman.)
Should of signed them all... I hate the idea of losing the rights to a player and then having that player come back to bite you cuz you didnt want to give the guy a little extra money. |

I like it. Don't know if LA would. They have lots of good young "D" there. But certainly not an overpayment by the isles. |

can only have a total of 50 contracts and I guess that played into it. Most of the reports I've read (granted, taking others opinions as I haven't seen him play) had serious concerns over whether Kichton's game would translate into NHL success, most opinions seemed to be that it wouldn't and noted he was originally passed over his first year and that the Isles took him in the 5th round the following year. He's likely to get drafted this year but if it's higher than a 4th rounder I'll be surprised. Most guys who reenter the draft don't ever seem to get what they seem to think they're worth. Theoret.. not sure on that one but thought he sounded like a fringe prospect. It'll happen though, as our team gets deeper and the farm keeps adding these drafted players there is going to be less and less room and more marginal players are going to get left behind.

I don't think dehaan is enough along with the 1st for LA to take a chance on. His shoulder injury history is going to devalue him as a prospect and an asset until he spends a serious length of time playing without it reoccuring. I think it would take something like Donovan and a 1st, or possibly Ness and a 1st and 2nd
They're going to view Bernier as a long term starter for someone and ask for a high price tag. The issue I have is that as their backup he's really untested as a starter and LA plays an excellent defensive system that may be making him look better than he is.

Do you not think LA would want something tangible for Bernier?
They know what they are getting in Okposo and if they'd take it you'd be farther ahead. You know Okposo will disappear again next Fall. You're farther ahead with Bernier than Okposo. |

Of course they want something tangible but you also have to look that Bernier wants out... He wants to start. LA is deep. They are healthy scratching Nolan in the playoffs so... A 1st rd pick and a player with upside (when healthy) I think is a pretty good haul for their back-up goalie. But I dont know what other offers are there and what offers they have turned down in the past. |

Sorry, I don't get the insane price tags I've seen out there for Bernier. Has he exactly proven he even can be a long-term starter in the NHL for anyone? I understand he's ready and has excelled at all levels, but he's still just as much of a risk as any player who does not have an established NHL resume playing in big spots. There are other goalies out there that can do the job just fine and would cost a whole lot less in traded assets. |

First, I want you guys to sort out your goalie situation...love that young squad.
If LA took Okposo ($2.8M) and dumped Penner ($3.5M and UFA) they'd save approx $700k - paper savings but nonetheless. You have enough young guys on roster and in development to replace Okposo.
Just don't think LA would want DeHaan seeing as they just got rid of Hickey - ironically with you guys - who was also a bandaid situation. |

Like I said Id prefer to keep Okposo but by no means should he hold up a deal the could solve the Isles goaltending issue for the next decade. If they arent interested in DeHaan, Id be willing to offer Ullstrom, Lee, Sundstrom, Persson... I dont know if any of those players would excite them. |

Your wasting your time lads. Van fans have tried this with Leafs fans and Panthers fans. They just do not understand it. You can tell them till they are blue in the face and they still won't get it. Don't waste your time/affort with them. Just agree with them with regards to Luo and things get easier. - walshyleafsfan

He mentioned trying to come out next year strong from the beginning. I can't help but think being a newlywed during the spring/summer played into his not being primed and ready at the beginning. While I think he's always in decent physical condition, I don't think he was in anything close to game condition at the beginning.
First time playoff series like that tend to have a positive effect on a players intensity level. I'm expecting much bigger things out of KO, and everyone else for that matter, in October.
