absolutely. Bernier, Hiller, Halak, all better options than taking on another terrible contract. We have Poulin and Nilsson, both very young, both with promise. Probably best at the moment to not commit to the position for the next decade without seeing if one of them can play first, and signing someone who can to a short term deal or fairly inexpensive trade while we get to see the kids spelling him off and figure out what we have. - Isles_since_6
I agree. If they want, they'll buy out DP. I would rather have Hiller, then the Luongo contract. I just don't see what the point would be in getting Lu unless its an even swap for DP. Lu's signed til he's 43 and there are many other goalies |

where did I say I had inside information? It is a discussion, you just don't like that we won't agree with you. - Isles_since_6
Personally I'd likr them to trade Schneider for the better return, but that seems unlikely. |

you'll get one hell of a return if you trade Schneider, and with the Canucks in "win now" mode that's clearly the best course your GM could take. Would leave you with a goaltender for the next couple of years who is still playing well, plus a number of assets in return for Schneider and bring up Lack to back up Luongo. I don't know why Gillis had to say he was going to move Luongo.

McKen and Nuck fans are thinking us trading DP for them to buyout is also worth us giving them Niño and a first
Stupid thing is. Nucks absolutely need to trade Lumgo and more to fit under the cap
And we don't NEED to buyout DP.. |

to clarify this just so you understand, I'm not saying Luongo sucks, he's a terrific goalie. If he was signed to a 2-3 year deal you'd get a heck of a lot for him. Unfortunately, that's not the case. - Isles_since_6
Lu coming back to the Isles and being part of a big success would be some nice story it just does not seem to be a great fit. There are other options that make more sense. |

A Luongo for Dipietro deal straight up is not going to happen.
Luongo is still a good goalie. Dipietro is a buy out and will never play a game again. - woopstash
If Lu isn't traded he has to be bought out
Nucks have little leverage |

and since Garth has started the rebuild he doesn't throw away assets, if anything we'd like to see him be more aggressive. The chances of this happening are nil.

yup, if they're going to get dinged with a massive cap hit if he retires early down the road, no matter where they trade him, it's not worth the risk. They'll have to buy him out unless Gillis pisses on the canucks future and keeps trying to save face by getting something back in a trade.

I wasn't aware Chicago had to make drastic salary cuts and declared they would be moving Hossa after benching him for a younger kid. My mistake. - Isles_since_6
the hawks are fine, just dont expect to see stalberg as a hawk next season as i doubt they are gonna resign him |

I was being sarcastic with the previous poster, I know the Hawks are fine and don't have to move Hossa

Luongo has to go at this point, trading Schneider would bring in a way better return but Luongo is gone for sure. The bridge has been burned!

Then the Islanders won't get him. Pretty simple. - woopstash
Then that's fine. Vancouver can keep him for the next 12 years. |

Ya. The Tim Thomas/Nabokov duo is much better. - woopstash
Nabakov is not signed but I'd take him for one year with either Poulin or Nilsson backing him up rather than another albatross goalie contract and giving up Nino to boot. Not happening. |

Sorry man, we already have DP who is useless but if need be Wang has the option to buy him out. To take on Luongo's contract get a good goalie for a few years and give up Nino for him in the process? Snow is not Mike Milbury you guys have him confused. |

So you're counting on signing a UFA goalie? Which one? - woopstash
Nabakov who will come cheap rather than giving up a former fifth round pick who is probably going to be a first line power forward. That's bordering on retarded. It may sound great to you but I'm guessing nobody else in the world except for maybe a Canucks fan? |

Well the Islanders need to make a move because isn't DP the only goalie they have under contract for next year.
Lou is still a really good goalie. - StevenStiller
No we don't. We are going to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 mil below the cap floor, we could have five goalies under contract |

Would you trade Marion Hossa for Ricky D? I didn't think so, Van won't trade Lu for RD either. - LeftCoaster
That's fine. Then you can keep him. Enjoy |

I'll cheer like crazy for Lu if we get him but he is not the droid we are looking for. I'd rather bring back Nabby for a year and give plenty of time to Poulin or Nilsson.

It's pretty simple: If the Islanders want to improve, they would take Luongo. If they want to stay the same or get worse, they don't. Luongo is a damn fine goalie still and would improve the Islanders. - woopstash
You seem to be the only one who knows the difference between a goalie who can carry a team and one that sinks your teams fortunes.Where would pitt be without vokoun.Watching Fluery tee it up thats where.I like the islanders team but without a great goalie you will be watching other teams play in apr may while your team is done. |

Luongo to the Islanders for Dipietro and a gourmet steak dinner on Snow. That's probably more than I want to give up for that contract anyway. If I had it my way it would be dinner at the Olive Garden.
Seriously though, not giving up a single asset for Luongo and that contract. - eichiefs9
Rick D has a worse contract... he sucks and doesn't even play... they buyout is almost the same.

Yes we will. You are right. Snow will find another option whether it be Halak Bernier, or even resigning Nabakov for a year(prob going to happen), with two promising goalies in Nilsson and Poulin we aren't going to take on Luongo's contract especially while giving up a pretty much sure fire first line power forward in Nino. Hysterical. Again, I think Loungo is great but don't hold your breath on this one, especially for what some of you guys are thinking the return is going to be |
