Rick D has a worse contract... he sucks and doesn't even play... they buyout is almost the same. - SMP8719
You don't seem to understand that we are going to have a hard time REACHING the floor!!!! NOBODY seems to get this?!?!!?!? DP's contract is actually helping us do so! |

You seem to be the only one who knows the difference between a goalie who can carry a team and one that sinks your teams fortunes.Where would pitt be without vokoun.Watching Fluery tee it up thats where.I like the islanders team but without a great goalie you will be watching other teams play in apr may while your team is done. - Bigali
No question the Islanders need to improve in goal but is Lu and that contract the only answer? |

No way. There are other options. No way it's worth giving up Nino |

Snow would do it for Bernier but he is in no way giving him up for Luongo. These guys can say whatever they want they're only blowing smoke up their own a$$es |

I agree and many other teams so far agree as well. |

this is why I think Vancouver buys out Luongo this year and Gillis eats a big heaping plate of crow. If they trade Luongo anywhere this is a very real possibility down the road, and it may come when they can least afford to take a cap hit. - Isles_since_6[/quote]
When gillis is probably gone .... So he won't care lol |

Right. Giving up Nino for Bernier is one thing giving up Nino for Lu is a whole other ballgame. |

Lou and Ballard/Hamius for DiJesus, Nino, and De Haan, maybe some draft pick here and there to square it all off.
Isles get a legit number 1 goalie, and a veteran help on D, plus getting rid of that terrible contract.
Canucks get rid of a media question distraction, and 2 young players but have 18 years of buyout hell. |

I don't think anyone questions his skill now. It's the fact that he's 34 and is going to carry a cap hit of $5.33M until he's 43. That's the issue, that's why I wouldn't give you a single scrap of anything other than a straight up swap for DP. His buyout is far more attractive than Luongo's. I realize no VAN fan would ever agree to that. I'd take my chances elsewhere before I let Lu's contract handcuff this team years down the line. - eichiefs9

you canuck fans. You seem to think WE suggested this was a good trade, and got all insulted when we don't want Luongo. Let's examine this.
DP's buyout, 16 years at 1.5 mil cap hit. We have 30 mil in cap space, we can handle it. We're sure as hell not going to give up an asset to take back a similar situation that might be good for 3 years to leave us in the same spot, and give up whatever benefits we could have had from the assets you're expecting over the next 7-10 years.
We.do.not.want.Luongo.
we will take him to replace DP since the buyouts are similar, and we may benefit for 2-3 years. Snow is not building a team for 2-3 years or we would have made drastic moves before now. It's clear he's expecting this team to be competitive for a long time. No assets for you.
buyout luongo yourself and we'll both have buyouts. We might sign Luongo as a UFA after that, but it'll be a much shorter contract. - Isles_since_6
that makes sence.

This is more believable though I still doubt any of this is happening. the Lu for Nino and DP plus a pick shat has to stop. You guys are making yourselves look foolish |

exactly, but we're fine with a DP buyout, that still leaves us 28 mil to fill 3-4 spots? Why should we do you a favor and take Luongo and give you something valuable in return? If Gillis buys out Luongo the entire league is going to be laughing at him more than they already are when he tries to say the contract is not an issue, and we want two NHL ready players, a 1st round pick and a top prospect in return? Jesus.

Its hard to look past all the players but end of the day any trade that had Lou or DP is all about the money and cap space. Like how Flames gave away Regher, Kotalik, and 2nd round pick for pluggers just to make it under the cap. |

I'm a broken record here but we still need quite a bit of money just to get to the floor. I like Lu, I really do( )but we all know Snow better than to give up the future for 2-3 yrs of decent goaltending. |

are you fvcking kidding me? Take two of Vancouver's three massive issues and give them two prospects in return that have value? Ballard has been a benchwarmer at 4.25 mil. Luongo, Booth and Ballard are 20 percent of Vancouver's cap and two of them don't play and one's an injury problem that scored 1 goal last year. Why doesn't Snow get on his knees and suck Gillis off at the same time. christ.
