Its hard to look past all the players but end of the day any trade that had Lou or DP is all about the money and cap space. Like how Flames gave away Regher, Kotalik, and 2nd round pick for pluggers just to make it under the cap. - DDM-Coga
and this is why Gillis should have been fired when he opened his mouth to the media and set his asking price for Luongo.

are you fvcking kidding me? Take two of Vancouver's three massive issues and give them two prospects in return that have value? Ballard has been a benchwarmer at 4.25 mil. Luongo, Booth and Ballard are 20 percent of Vancouver's cap and two of them don't play and one's an injury problem that scored 1 goal last year. Why doesn't Snow get on his knees and suck Gillis off at the same time. christ. - Isles_since_6
Intially I thought edler but then if I had that in there, I would have canuck fans jumping down my back as well, I am with you guys I wouldnnt want Lou anyways, but I havent talked hockey talk in months, felt like joining the fun |

Well the Islanders need to make a move because isn't DP the only goalie they have under contract for next year.
Lou is still a really good goalie. - StevenStiller Then keep him for 9 more years

A Luongo for Dipietro deal straight up is not going to happen.
Luongo is still a good goalie. Dipietro is a buy out and will never play a game again. - woopstash

I'm not disagreeing with you, remember I'm a fan of the team that signed Tim Thomas to a phantom contract - Cptmjl
we didn't sign him, pay him or give up anything at all for him.

putting in edler would have at LEAST made the trade slightly less one sided. If Gillis called Snow with that offer I bet he would have heard the phone fall onto the desk and hysterical laughter in the background.

If we draft McKinnon, keep Nino safe for us if he hasnt been called up yet and we will Trade you O'reilly for him at the deadline |

I'm a broken record here but we still need quite a bit of money just to get to the floor. I like Lu, I really do( )but we all know Snow better than to give up the future for 2-3 yrs of decent goaltending. - Cptmjl
Yes. This was a rebuild so he's not trading top prospects for Luongo. I like Lu also and if somehow they can do Lu for a draft pick and DP I would like that, depending on the pick of course. |

Lou and Ballard/Hamius for DiJesus, Nino, and De Haan, maybe some draft pick here and there to square it all off.
Isles get a legit number 1 goalie, and a veteran help on D, plus getting rid of that terrible contract.
Canucks get rid of a media question distraction, and 2 young players but have 18 years of buyout hell. - DDM-Coga
Big difference between those two there, just saying. Either you're overvaluing Ballard or undervaluing Hamhuis if you think that they are interchangeable. |

agreed, HUGE difference. Ballard is a cap disaster who doesn't play, Hamhuis plays top minutes and is a massive piece of the Vancouver defense.

Also, Dreger talking about Luongo and the hypothetical involvement of Nino in a trade:
Finally, the prospect of a Canucks trade including Roberto Luongo for Nino Niedereitter was broached. Quote Dreger:
"The Vancouver Canucks are in such a pickle right now that if they can get [Nino] from the Islanders, then Mike Gillis should be a candidate for Executive of the Year...
There's so many managers around the game that continue to tell me if this drags into the offseason, which it will, that Gillis is going to have to pay to move Roberto Luongo...
Do you get a prospect that still has that level of potential for Roberto Luongo? I don't think you do unless you're giving up something else in return" |

that makes sence. - SMP8719
Lu said in a TV interview he wishes he could tear up his contract and make this all go away.
He can, as far as I know. His agent and the PA prob wouldn't be happy but if he REALLY wants out, he's got the answer.
He won't tho, just like RDP won't tear his up tho he must realize he never will be the goalie he & MM dreamed he'd be. That ship has sailed along with the Islander Gorton's Fisherman logo. |

Until he can stay healthy and play in the NHL he doesn't have much trade value. If he does stay healthy, he could be a top 4 defenseman who can move the puck. Too hard to say at this point. Nino has value and is not going to be moving unless it's a piece in a legit deal for a stud player under a reasonable contract. |

can't tear up contracts or adjust them. That isn't an option, NHL contracts are guaranteed, no changes. Buyout or payout.

Landeskog, Duchene, Nino, the united nations line. Seriously where can we sign off on this trade |

Like the idea of Lou and love him as a player. His contract is just so albatross I wouldn't give up anything other than DP, a late round pick and maybe a low end prospect (ie: Halmo)
With so many other goalies in the FA pool (Backstorm, Nabby, Emery, etc) and even better ones on the trade market (Hiller, Halak, Miller, Bernier, etc) i doubt Lou winds up back on the island. Just more appealing options else where that are more suitable for islanders
And people who think the Islanders will give up Nino for Lou have to be so high. Guy is a former top 5 pick a couple years ago (20 years old!) and since he had 1 bad year on a terrible team, playing with two non-goal scores, on the forth line, after being rushed to the NHL too early; he is just supposed to have no value, be considered a bust, and be completely expendable? I don't think so

O'Reilly can play both sides of the puck and put up a more-than-respectable number of points. He also led the league in takeaways two years ago. (Finishing with two more TkA's than Tavares). I said it when there was the whole drama surrounding him at the beginning of this season and I'll say it now, I would absolutely love him on this team. His advanced statistics are phenomenal. |
