why would O'Reilly days be numbered? Avs could try him on wing if possible, plus McKinnon might not be ready, you just don't know how kids will perform.
I believe Avs have a lot of cap space, just need a defense.
Plus if McKinnon is ready, you can make him 3rd line C and ease him in to the NHL.....You guys have a young team and should not trade any young assets - Ur Not Me
I just dont think O'Reilly will be chomping at the bit to resign next summer if they draft McKinnon, especially since he wanted to be paid like a number 1 centre, Im sure he wont want be put on the 3rd line in a year or 2 again.
Stastny would be the trade the Avs will want to make, but if they want to add a significant piece they would have to move ROR. They do have 3/4 of a season to play him and gauge his interest level in resigning. |

Stasny will go to the Rangers for Girardi. The Avs can't trade O'Reilly for 1 year anyway. |

are you fvcking kidding me? Take two of Vancouver's three massive issues and give them two prospects in return that have value? Ballard has been a benchwarmer at 4.25 mil. Luongo, Booth and Ballard are 20 percent of Vancouver's cap and two of them don't play and one's an injury problem that scored 1 goal last year. Why doesn't Snow get on his knees and suck Gillis off at the same time. christ. - Isles_since_6
On AVG a single playoff game nets 1 million for the home team.
82 game season changes the dynamic of the league. Going back to the 82 game format + realignment changes the landscape in terms of making the playoffs for certain teams.
Luongo would not only give you a better chance to win, but he'll put butts in the seats; and sell jerseys.
Does Nino do that now? Does DiPietro?
Charles Wang is a highly successful man. He probably realizes Luongo means more income, and no ones ever turned down more income. |

The Sabres fan who was in here the other week proposing Nino and a first for Miller...I wouldn't want to do that deal, personally, but I'd do that long before I'd give up the same for Luongo.
((UIF)) - UIF
You're nuts for several reasons. One is that Luongo >> Miller. Second, no way the Sabres trade him to a team they'll battle with to make the playoffs. Third, no way Miller's worth a 1st let alone another player.
Lu's contract is not good but his cap hit isn't bad and he gets you into the playoffs which means his effort more than pays for his salary. From the owner's viewpoint, that's all that matters. The Flyers make the playoffs with Lu and not only do they net 2M per game they get much more with the TV part. The caps are tired of losing and will be looking at a new tender as well. Dallas can't afford to lose another year. Phoenix needs someone to play goal.
Too many people think this will be a hockey trade. It won't. It will be a business decision and it will be made by an owner and not a GM. If the Flyers can't sign Smith, they go after Lu. |

2MiLLION!?!? (frank) there's a lot of money at stake. Especially for the fringe-playoff small market teams.
Honestly a guy like Luongo could be the difference between loss and profitability.

Good luck to you then. I don't want that contract no matter how good he is, and he's not Lundquist or Quick. You seem to feel he's worth more than we do, so thanks but no thanks.

Will Lundquist or Quick be as good as Luongo when they're 33? 38? I don't understand why people are complaining about problems that MIGHT surface 1000's of days from now. |

canucks net 2M per home playoff game. flyers own their own tv station. double it. at least. schneider not happy they're on the outside. buyouts mean nothing to them.
lu's contract cap is not the problem. there are 9 goalies with bigger cap hits. the problem is term. you just need a team with an owner who thinks it's worth it to go with him for 4 years. from a financial view, it's a no brainer for some owners. if pitts gets pummeled by the bruins, which is very possible, and goaltending sucks, they'll be forced to do something.

if his age isn't the issue why move him? If he's going to be solid for another 4-5 years, why not keep him and move schneider so you can get more of a return?
You're on crack if you think you're getting anything back for Luongo that isn't a contract you're going to buy out. If Gillis could have moved Luongo it would have been last summer before the cap dropped, now..good luck with that.
Who the hell cares how good another goalie might be at that age? The key to the whole issue is the contract. Read up a bit on the salary cap and come back to discuss it. You may need to borrow the book from Gillis though, I think he just heard about it.

forced to do something is what the Canucks will be this summer. Not Pittsburgh. Their GM doesn't sign players to stupidly long deals. Our owner signed DP to his contract, think he's going to be willing to take another one of those back after seeing how badly it worked out the first time?

won't happen. he'll be traded at the draft or eklund will reveal his real identity which everyone already knows. |

when this happens like I said earlier, I cannot wait to see the press conference Gillis has to hold to explain how the contract wasn't a problem.

the problem is the market is even less this year due to the lower cap, and teams already looking with distaste at having to buy out some of their players. I don't see Luongo moving, and I see 29 other gm's watching Gillis trying to hide a smile because the second he buys out Luongo they'll be all over themselves trying to sign him. Shorter term deal of course.
Canucks already have to deal with Booth and Ballard, neither of which is worth anything to anyone else or they would have already been moved. Think Gillis wouldn't have tried with his team at the cap at the deadline? If he could have moved Ballard for cap space or gotten rid of Booth he would have. Now you have an issue. Three players you can't move and you can only buy out two of them. |

LOL at your hostility.
And as for why they want to trade Luongo: The Canucks want the better goalie. |
