I'm on the Shinkaruk bandwagon for #11. I like his skill set and compete level, I believe his game can translate to the NHL. If the choice was between Pullock and Shinkaruk, it would be a pretty tough decision. - ravishingone
I am a "Best Player Availible" kind of believer. I think the Flyers, despite their inequities with regards to defensemen, have drafted remarkably well in the earlier rounds, identifying players that do tend to go onto be NHL Contributors. But I can't help wishing them them to draft a Defensemen with the 11th pick. We have so much going on with regards to our forwards. If the scouts truly feel Shinkaruk is the better pick, I trust them, but I do just want to have that defensemen of the future developing now, rather than later.
I still have a list of about 15 guys, any of whom I'd be good with. Outside of obvious reaches, of course.
I'm still very interested in possibly trading down, to add a few other picks. Ideally if they could grab second first rounder, but even an early second rounder would probably be intriguing. - Jsaquella
I don't think it is impossible for them to trade down, but I really can't remember them trading back in a long time. Also, Bill wrote last year they had real interest in Tervainen, so it doesn't seem they mind potentially smaller, skilled forwards.
My personal belief is they stay the course and draft a forward in the first round especially since it looks pretty apparent some young forward asset or assets will be used to upgrade the blueline in the offseason. Also, since their track record is so good drafting forwards in the first round, why change. Additionally, top pairing d-men can be drafted after the first round.

We have so many amazing young forwards (See: Giroux, Voracek, B Schenn, Couturier, Simmonds), I'd like to see us get a really good young dman to even it out. We have L Schenn, but I think Pulock could even it out within a year or two. Imagine a longtime pair of Pulock and L Schenn, with Pulock bringing the offense, and L Schenn the defense. I just think Pulock makes more sense for us, just like how even though Mackinnon passed Seth Jones on the ISS rankings, Jones still makes bucket loads more sense for the Avalanche to take. Plus, Imagine this plan: Trade Hartnell + for Edler to obtain one of the best defenders in the league. Let Pulock slowly come up the pipes to the pro club. By the time Edler is in his decline, Pulock will be right on the verge of his prime. It seems logical, and it seems like a good, long-term plan. This plan also assumes that Pulock lives up to potential, which isn't a sure thing. Based on his attitude, work ethic, and leadership ability, I don't see why he wouldn't. Those are usually the type of guys that excel over ones that lack those traits.

You don't go into the draft targeting a specific position no matter how bad we could use it for the team now & or going forward. You set the board in the order you and your scouts have talked about and gone over in countless meetings.
You avoid targeting a specific player or position mainly because reaching is something teams like to avoid just to fill a "need". If you have a surplus at say forward you could use that as a chip in a trade to acquire something else down the road.
BPA is the best and smartest way to go in the draft.

You're entirely correct and I hate it I just want Pulock
Good God, can we all at the very least agree at this point that the Canucks have little to no interest in Hartnell? - hereticpride
Why? Hartnell is one of the best power forwards in the league, and they're trying to get bigger and grittier. The only criteria he doesn't really meet is the age (And the salary isn't as low as they might necessarily like, but still reasonable for a player like Hartnell). Other than that, though, he's exactly the kind of player they're apparently looking for.
If Briere retired this summer without being bought out, the Flyers would face a two year cap penalty of $4mm per year, in 2013-14 and 2014-15 - Jsaquella
I'm getting a strong feeling Philly is going to trade down from 11 to 14. And trade up from 41 to 29 or whatever kings pick would be. Seems every Year someone drops a few spots and with col having all those picks I can see them trading up a few spots to get someone they really like rather than risk missing out on him. Win win for both teams if it happens. Only wAy I'm upset is if risto/pulock are there at 11 and they both go before 14 and Philly gets neither.

If they ended up with Josh Morrissey & Jason Dickinson, that would not be a bad couple of first rounders.
That'd be great if they can get a second 1st rounder. I wouldn't be against standing pat and then trying to move that 41st pick into a better one if Dickinson's on the board. I'm really liking him as a late 1st/early 2nd round possibility.

I'm right now in the stand pat mindset even with #41 and may move it depending on how the draft falls.

I like to hope that if the Flyers make a move for a top pairing Dman that they'll trade one of Coburn or Mezaros (hopefully Mezaros) for picks. Maybe we could get an early 2nd rounder for him?

A lot of it will depend on how things shake out. If a good player falls to 11, say a Lindholm or Monahan, I'd stay put. If Pulock or Horvat are there, I'd probably prefer standing pat, as well.
Depends on the offer as well. I wouldn't trade out of the top 15-20 unless I got at least a couple of additional 2nd rounders or more.

I'd be utterly amazed if they got a 2nd rounder for Meszaos. If they could get a 2nd for Meszaros right now, I'd move him even if I didn't get another defenseman.
Coburn, I don't move him unless somebody overpays by a good bit.

in all likelihood at least one of the 4 you named will be there at 11 (top 5 are very likely set, at least they all should go in the top ten... that leaves only 5 other picks)
i would love to see them somehow add a top forty pick.. just for depth reasons. i think it was you that suggested something like 11 and 41 for 25, 34, 36 (montreal). i would definitely be in favor of that type of move

That could be doable....there's good value there, although it's a hard draft to mock, because after the top 4 or 5, it could go several different ways. We could see a run on defensemen and have several good forwards waiting at 11. There could be several teams going BPA, which still leaves good players at 11. We're likely to see a reach or two.
