35 year old coming off wrist surgery? No thanks. Adding players like Zubrus isn't going to close the gap on the top teams in the League. The Flyers are light years behind teams like Boston, Chicago, Pittsburgh, LA etc talent wise.
Holmgren has a ton of work to do, and coming off the debacle that was last summer, he better get things done. - PLindbergh31
Zubrus is a very strong player on the wall and in the forecheck game. As well as a solid 2 way player. Without a doubt he is a player that could help the Flyers and make them a better team. Depending on the cost.
The players such as Bickell, Kennedy, Adams,Kelley, Campbell, Paille, Shaw, Clifford, Lewis, and King, are a big part of what makes those teams top teams. |

Part of me still feels like they will CBO Bryzgalov as well. I just see them looking at what their needs are in other areas, and feeling like they can move forward with a less expensive goalie tandem. Use that money to shore up the myriad of areas they need to shore up. Puck mover (or 2) on the back line, a big physical 2 way winger, a faceoff guy to play in the bottom 6 etc.
I know that it has been said the Flyers are keeping Bryz, but after all that has happened I can see the team reevaluating that stance. Regardless of what some think, this team DOES take the pulse of the fanbase. They do not allow it to be the reason why they make the decisions they make, but it may account for half a percent.
There is too much controversy (most of it manufactured by the media) surrounding Bryz and his "antics". The Flyers hear that whether they like to admit it or not. - MBFlyerfan
I agree, I would be pretty surprised if they don't buy him out.

Boyes & Antropov will replace Matt Read and Sean Couturier after they trade them to get into the top 5 and take Nichushkin - Jsaquella
I'd break something if that actually happened
And then hope to hell they got Malkin Version 2.0
Nichushkin is really hard to spell |

He's one of the few guys I'd trade up to draft, along with MacKinnon, Drouin, Jones & Barkov. |

It's possible, for sure. Luukko's comments went from, "He's our goalie" to "He'll stay...if he wants to". Hardly etched in stone, and even if he does return, I feel it's gonna be a short term, one year engagement, anyhow.
Which is why I say, cut the damned cord now. - Jsaquella

The thing that I like most about Nichushkin is that he isnt a sit around and watch type of player. He is like Malkin with AO's playing style... Could potentially be the best player in the draft... |

But at his age maybe Handzus is a better comparison.
I totally agree with what you are saying here though
I think the size and speed and effectiveness of the bottom 6 players on the teams still playing are very impressive |

As each day passes, I feel less and less confident that they're going to use the CBO on him this summer. |

If Gagne resigns I have zero interest in Boyes. If Gagne walks then Boyes can play for peanuts.
Antropov would give us a bit of what our bottom six is missing right now: players with size and experience. |

If we were getting Weber and Nichuskin back, I would do it. Im not sure about Nashville. If I were them I would rather have Weber and Nichuskin.
Is Weber eligible to be traded before the draft. I don't know the timing tbh.

Flyers have done this before
With Tampa bay to get Joni ministick IIRC
Hmmm I wonder if it happens again?
I'd die a little bit if they trade Couts though |

Can't be traded until July 5th, I believe.

If we are talking about an EA sports fantasy team, I would sign Zubrus and Antropov in a second. The Flyers have been on again off again for Nik for years. He would bring the most size to Center that they have had in a long time. While he never turned into the consistent scoring threat that people thought he should be, he is a massive center who is above average on face offs, can play a 3rd line/4th line roll and chip in more than a couple goals here and there. Teamed with Zubrus you have two such players....
I would not touch Boyes with someone elses ten foot pole, even in fantasy land.
Now, for reality. All of the above are on the other side of 30. They represent contract slots that cost against the 50. The likelyhood of a rapid decline in their skills to the point that they are more of a detriment than help is greater than their long term help to the team...so...I don't sign any of the three (Boyes, Antropov or Zubrus). I might sign Gagne if the money is right and everything else works out.
The Flyers have bigger fish to fry than just getting bigger. Adding Antropov and Zubrus would get them bigger but would work against full filling the other neads.

He is not eligible to be traded until after the next signing bonus is paid. I believe that is in early July. |

Nope. Weber can't be traded until mid to late July, for some reason I can't recall the date, but I think it's july 28th
EDIT: The Preds matched the offer sheet on July 24th, and under the last CBA that menat he couldn't be traded for one calendar year after that date. Not certain if it's changed now. |

I wouldn't mind one or the other for a small price ($2 million for a year tops) but I don't really care if they get neither. |

I think it really depends on what other moves they make. If the Flyers trade significant forward parts to fix the blueline, they'll need some stop gap forwards. As long as the deal(s) are short, I can live with it, especially for a Zubrus. |

I thought it was for one calendar year after they agreed to match the offer sheet. They did that on July 24th. |

Agreed. The only thing I fear is giving management more money to work with in an offseason where there is nothing good to spend it on. In free agency that is.
Edit: And by nothing good, I mean a lack of first/second line forwards and top d-man. Yes, you could find some solid role players or overpay a Stalberg, but ya know what I mean. |

Pretty sure it's when they matched. Might be changed under new CBA. |
