Yeah I really don't see either of them going there. If Minny doesn't want to give up anything meaningful for Vanek he won't get traded there, and what you said about Miller before is spot on. I think they are looking for a stop-gap while Keumper develops.
Once again though, Vanek specifically said that he would like to stay in Buffalo as long as we aren't going for a long rebuild like Pittsburgh or Edmonton (i.e. 5+ years). I don't think that is what is going on, and our 'rebuild' started last year when we traded Roy, Gaustad, and Kassian. Also, Vanek lives in Buffalo and spends off time in Minnesota.
Garth is off about Minnesota being in really serious cap trouble, they will likely use a buyout on Heatley IMO, and not resign a couple of players. As far as trades I don't think Granlund is quite as untouchable as everyone thinks, with the emergence of Coyle who knows - rsj2588
Agreed. Miller isn't going to Minnesota. I can't imagine the Wild doing another multi-prospect deal like the one they did for Pominville. They could afford to do a deal like that once, but not again. MN is pretty high on Kuemper and Gustafson, but both need a little time to develop properly. They would probably like to keep Backstrom around for another 2-3 years if they can sign him at a reasonable cap number.
The only way I can see Vanek ever playing in MN would be if maybe Buffalo traded him somewhere as a rental and then he went to free agency the following season. He would have to want to come to MN for it to happen.
I'm not sure what to make of the Heatley situation. Obviously his big paycheck would be great to get off the cap considering he isn't the player he used to be. But, they really seem to like him. The Wild had more success with him in the lineup than they did when he was out.
The Cap is manageable, but they will be right back up against it like last year. Bouchard comes off the books at $4.5m, and they will likely trade Seto, Gilbert or buy out Heatley like you mentioned.
You're probably right about Granlund. It would take a lot to pry him away, but he definitely didn't meet expectations. He could probably just use more time in the AHL. There's no doubt the kid has incredible talent, you can seen it when he has the puck. He needs to get stronger to be effective. |

Bennett and Despres wouldnt be bad but I dont know if theyd take Miller on with the other two boneheads still on the roster. Maybe another trade would have to go down first |

7.5 cap hit, $5 mil salary.
IMO perfect fit for a team like the Islanders who like to obtain guys with with high cap hits and lower salary.
I know many don't agree with me but he would also be a suitable replacement if they move Vanek prior to the season. They'd also be able to move him at the deadline and gain more picks and prospects. - dadeadhead
That's a really good point. The Isles could use a vet like Heater, and they have the parts in their system to make a deal work. NYI are overloaded with quality D prospects and MN could use one. The Cap situation makes a ton of sense for both teams too. I'm sure MN would much rather make a trade than do a buyout. |

I agree that Minny in theory sounds good but the prospects of getting whats left in their system either wouldnt be worth it or unabtainable. I think if they could have got Grandlund they would have done it last year with Pommer + for him and we snapped up Larsson.

I'm a Solar Bears fan. Kuemper played really well here in the ECHL this year. I hope he does well with the Wild. |

You think? Why So?
I just don't see Miller wanting to go the the barren wasteland of the NHL.
