I think this is said so often that he's actually overvalued now
If everyone and their brother says a guy is underrated, doesn't it mean that techincally no one is underrating him?
Frans is good from a penalty killing standpoint, but I don't think he's as good defensively in 5x5 as advertised. He isn't even slightly physical and doesn't seem aggressive enough offensively.
I was real happy with the game I saw from him in the Pittsburgh series as he finally seemed to be doing those things better. I do worry that his passioni level is a bit lacking. Fortunately with our talent depth getting better, he'll be filling a more appropriate role.

What are you trying to say? I would love for someone better but I do not see the Isles making a big move. - ses111
Murray is a garbage can with a pulse. He skates like someone dropped him into a sandbox full of recently poured cement. I seriously wouldn't want him on this team if he offered to play for free. Him and Engelland looked like revolving doors playing against the Bruins fourth line last night.

I think this turned out to be a good day for the Islanders with Streit and Boyes not returning... |

Been saying the same thing. If everyone keeps calling him underrated, he can't really be underrated anymore. This is also especially true of Louie Eriksson.

I really liked in the playoffs how he'd pull up after entering the zone and make a quick pass rather than dumping it to the corner. For a player like Cizikas, dumping the puck to the corner is the right play there. Frans sees the ice well enough to make a play there though. He's a valuable player...just not "untouchable" like some seem to think. I wouldn't look to trade him at all...but I wouldn't slam the phone down on any offer that began, "I'd like to make an offer for Nielsen."

Agreed. I think Frans has the skillset to be a decent playmaking forward but he shy's away from contact so often. I was shocked to see him throw the body a few times in that series and even go into a few danger areas. Sometimes the difference between a guy like say JT or Crosby and other players is their willingness to put themselves at risk by going into dangerous areas. Frans is the polar opposite in that regard. Still, his pk abilities make him very useful, just (as you say) not untouchable.

If any of you gentlemen (and ladies, of course) want to head over to the Leafs thread, we are currently debating whether or not we could pry Strome from the Isles in return for taking Ricky DiP off of Mr. Wang's wallet. Numerous other scenarios have been discussed (yes, we know the pot needs to be sweetened. At least most of us realize that).
It would be interesting to get the NYI perspective on the "debate."
No need to bring a gift - just show up at the door. |

The only thing I'd bring is the previous 'no' pictures. Under no circumstances do I want this team unloading it's second best player for the sake of saving $1.5 million per year. Pass.

That bad? I'm fine with Donovan instead. I'd love a proven dman I just do not see Garth wanting to trade a lot of young talent. |

Again...I think Wang goes to Ratner/Barclays people if he's desperate for a financial lifeline rather than directing his GM to give away the best prospects that they spent years developing through a rebuild who are finally ready to show what they have. Nino, Strome, Nelson, etc. are not being given away.

Sadly, that's kinda the conclusion I've come to. NYI won't do it.
But what about Gardiner for Strome and Ricky DiP?

I think we are all worn out from doing this with Canuck's fans last week? If Snow trades Strome with DP to unload his contract or any of our prospects for that matter they will lose half the fanbase maybe more? Doubtful. |

Visors will be grandfathered in. Hybrid icing tested in NHL preseason. Shallower nets to be used next season. All subject to board approval
What the hell does shallower nets mean? |
