I don't understand how you don't acquire Luongo this summer.
A nice 5.3 cap hit for a team that needs to be over the floor anyway and Vancouver is at the point where you literally are probably getting a draft pick with him just for taking the contract. - t_leafs21
Isn't his salary higher than the cap hit for the first four years? If so, Wang don't play that. Cap hit has to be equal to or higher that the actual salary. |

I also think Wang has had enough with the play until you can't walk any longer contracts.

btw... Brad Boyes fate seemed sealed by disappearing in playoffs. #isles look for character/players to step up, not disappear.

made this point on a canucks comment thread a few days ago. Luongo's salary is 6.7, cap is 5.3. Wang doesn't play that game. Reverse it and he'll look at it, but he won't pay out more than the cap hit.

the only one I'd give him the okay to sign would be a Tavares 10 year deal. Anyone else isn't worth the risk.

Wow... If he was signed for 3-4 years I would say its a good possibility, But its one year and then UFA and its no secret he wants to be out west. Plus doesn't he have a NTC? I doubt he would waive it for a year on the Island.

He has to submit a list of 8 teams he wont go to when asked for it.
What if it was just a first round pick instead of a prospect? I think its going to be really hard to move Miller which is why the idea of taking back dipietro increases his value for the islanders |

I gotta admit the idea of a pick for him straight up, without you guys taking DP is a very interesting idea
W/ DP its almost a given

Gotta take into account though, Darcy goes for overpayments. So my guess would be it would be straight up for the 1st rounder, or with DP for nino |

I don't think there's much to this "Isles willing to give up Nino/Strome to a team that takes DP." Just more Canadian media banter that projects the Isles giving every good prospect and player they have to a Canadian team in return for the privilege of dealing with a Canadian team. There's like two of these stories a year.
Once again, if it's solely a financial thing for Wang and he's desperate for assistance, he more likely than not goes to Ratner for a lifeline rather than begging for assistance around the league by giving away the team's best prospects. |

This team has struggled for so long to put a competitive product on the ice and now is finally about to open a new arena with a decent team and a few more blue chippers on the way. I can't imagine why any of Nino, Reinhart or Strome would be sent elsewhere unless it was for a marquee player in their prime. Even at that, I don't see it happening as he (Wang) went down that road in 2001 already.

the luongo for DP was a joke but it makes tons of sense for the isles to make a lopsided trade including DP as like a negative on their end of the deal
the fames did this when they traded regehr for beans to buffalo, they threw in kotalik and the sabres shipped him to europe |

DP's buyout is pretty cheap considering the term, so I don't see any reason to deal a significant piece just to lose his salary. A buyout without the Amnesty close has them only paying $1.5 mil per season, which they've already been paying for Yashin. This will be chump change for this team once the marketing kicks in through Barclays. There's far more to gain by keeping guys like Nino and Strome than packaging them w/ DP to save a few dollars.
I think it's also been made pretty clear at this point that the Isles are very interested in bringing Nabby back for another year, which means they probably have NO interest in acquiring a big ticket goalie like Lou or Miller. The desire to resign Nabby means they're looking for a 1 year stop gap to bridge the team into the Nilsson/Poulin era.

not to mention the fact, as most snow-haters will acknowledge, snow doesnt trade his prospects...now youre telling me not only will he trade a prospect but itll be the #1/#2 prospect in the system in a salary dump move...i dont buy it. |

So you dont think if snow thought they were better goaltending away from beating the penguins, and ottawa looked dead so probably goaltending away from the conference finals, that he'd give up one of his 2 best prospects for a good goalie? |

I agree and just like the JT will refuse to report if drafted by us BS I'm done hearing about it. Enough of this shat already. It would be PR suicide for this team if they did that, I honestly would take a flyer until this team had new management/owner. I don't think even Wang is stupid/crazy enough to do this... He better not be. |
