He's had more than one bad series. He was atrocious against the Flyers last year, too. I'm well aware of Letang's level of play. There's quite a few Pens bloggers & fans who know their stuff that have said the same things I'm saying. Such as there's no way they'd sign him for $7mm+ a year. - Jsaquella
That's a lot of coin. I would have to see who else makes that kind of money. |

I'd have to think about it, but good call.
First and foremost a d-man should be good at keeping the puck out of his own net. - flyer_nutter

He was far from the only player who didn't play well in that series.

Same could be said for Malkin Crosby iginla... That whole team is making boneheaded plays. Doesn't mean they are going to be like that for the rest of their careers - Philly1980
Crosby's played uncharacteristically bad, but even against the Flyers last year he was scoring points and a threat. Letang was a liability then and he's been one in this series, as well. |

You have a 100 yr old kimmo making 6... 7 isn't out of the question in 2014 when the cap will likely be 72-75 |

Personally I am loving it.
Malkin is just another Russian who has a poop load of talent, but is inconsistent as hell and bad defensively.
Crosby just really doesnt seem to be the same player, the injuries seem to have taken a toll. He does get a lot of little cheap shots out there though.
Iginla just looks like a step behind and Fleury is falling apart mentally. Loving every minute of it.

Kimmo is a better two way defenseman than Letang. |

Letang had 5 points in 6 games and was a -1 in the Series against the Flyers last year.

On practicum this week but just saw that play with Carter/Keith.
Cherry actually had a good shot of it on HNIC. Carter should have got a game too if Keith did, wussy slashed his bare hand directly when he was reaching to pick up his glove. - flyer_nutter

Timonen is still one of the best imo at breaking up 2 on 1's.
A guy like Edler imo, wont even come close to what Timonen was in his prime, and on some nights now.

I can't believe people actually think both plays deserve the same punishment...
Hand or Face come on now... "slash", love tap, richard move carter. There's no waaaay they're on the same level of aggression, or danger. To think what carter did is suspendable is insane and i'd be willing to bet those are the same people who despised him when he was on this team.
The only reason Duncan isn't getting more it's cuz it's the playoffs. |

You are mistaken. He tried to chop his glove into two. Or was it push it out of the way? |

It is relevant, because when a team as a whole plays poorly. And doesn't play a team game, especially in a playoff setting. Defenseman tend to look the worst. I'm not excusing Letang for not playing at the level he's capable of. But he is still one of the best offensive defenseman in the League. This series isn't going to change that.

Don't need a link into Carter's brain. Just need to watch the play. It's clear what he was trying to do. He was trying to sweep Duncan's glove away. Carter isn't a player who would intentionally try and slash a bare hand while a player is reaching for his glove. Have to take the history of the player into consideration. - MJL
And yet he did... Hell, he didn't even look when he took his little 2-hand chop. |

I just think its a little female dog play personally. Especially after the exchange they had earlier on the play. If Carter was mad, drop the gloves or make a hit. Just me. |

3 goals 5a... He should have had 20... The last game he was invisible after the Giroux hit... This series he's been invisible. |
