If the cap increases $4mm or so when he hits UFA, I'd feel totally safe in predicting $7.5mm or more. He's far from a bad player. I just think he gets overrated. If it's between him and a guy like Keith, if they're at the same $, I'd take Keith every time

Mike Green was a Norris finalist. The biggest issue is that he has lapses and sometimes makes mind numbingly bad decisions in his own end. Everyone has brain farts, for Letang they happen more than they should with an elite defensemen.

The Norris is weighted to the offensive side. When you score 30 goals and 70 pts as a defenseman, that draws a lot of attention. I don't think Letang is by any means a stellar defender. But I don't think he's a slouch either. I'll agree to disagree.

The Pens would like to sign him but they have Crosby and Malkin. Not sure they have the cap space to keep three guys at that price (7M and up).

I could be wrong b/c it does happen but I think Letang is a stud. There aren't any guys who are like Weber (maybe Chara).

That's really my big issue with bringing Letang in...he's going to get a massive contract. One that I doubt he'd be worth. It's not that he's bad, but he's basically a better version of Mike Green, IMO.

It's worse now that you can't have back diving deals to lower the Cap. For example, if you take away the last 3 years of Weber's deal at 1M each, put in there to lower the Cap hit, his Cap hit would be 9.7M. Do the same for Suter, and his cap hit is 8.7.

Bottom line, 7M for Letang would be a very good deal.

I think Letang is legit. I have no problems with his game. He can be too aggressive and make mistakes in his own end but all around he's solid.

The Pens are a completely different team when they don't have Letang in the lineup. He brings so much to the team. However, I do think they trade him or let him walk.
