Streit is smoking crack if he wants 5.5 per for 3 seasons. I dont care what the market looks like, there is NO WAY the Flyers should give him that salary or term. - MBFlyerfan
I think he'll get close to it.
And yeah, I agree on whether or not the Flyers should sign Streit. I don't the Flyers need another guy who is horrible in 5-on-5 play.
Off topic, but what do you guys think about Keith's high stick on Carter? To me, even though he regretted it, he intentionally swung his stick at Carter's head. It wasn't exactly McSorely-esque, but it was pretty bad. If he wasn't Duncan Keith (even though he's a "repeat offender") he'd be looking at about 5 games. - jmatchett383
I think Carter's move of trying to push the glove away during play, was a cheap shot. And he deserved a slash for it. But I don't think Keith intended to hit him in the face. He was trying to whack him on the side, and it got away from him. I could see it being suspendable.

Maybe he didn't mean to hit him in the face, but he did. If I'm gonna Shanaban it:
1) Keith intentionally swings his stick at an opposing player
2) Keith makes contact with the player's head
3) Keith is a repeat offender
Regardless of where he meant to hit him, he's still responsible for his stick.

Personally, I would take Horvat over either of them, but all 3 are going to be very good players. I would be willing to offer Streit 2 years, but if the cap hit is any higher than 4.5 mil max, I'm not interested. - BiggE

I disagree. Horvat, to me, is the new flavor of the month. He wasn't projected to go high (at least as high as some see him) and all of a sudden he's the hot thing.

He was at his best in the biggest games of his season.

Couldn't agree more. Horvat is nothing special, in relation to the other players available. His numbers also tell the same story. Don't get me wrong, great first round pick for another team, not us. Horvat would be a complete waste of a draft spot at 11, I'll be SHOCKED if he goes top 20.

I think Carter started the whole thing by coming down on Keith's bare hand/glove with his stick, and got a shot back. I call it tit-for-tat.
If that's suspendable...well, how much more of a joke can NHL discipline become?

I don't think a slash to the hand/wrist warrants an errant slash to the face. Slash him in the ankle or punch him, there's NEVER an excuse to take a wild swing with your stick.

Hockey players get pretty defensive about that whole slash on the bare hand thing considering they can't play if they don't have their hands intact, so I'm giving Keith a pass.
As much as you want to ascribe disrespect to Keith's actions, Carter's actions were every bit as disrespectful and reckless.

Yes. Slashes to the hand and wild swings to the head are totally comparable.

Keith was likely going for the arm/shoulder and missed.
My point of view on the whole thing is that Carter came down on/near a bare hand with his stick and if he catches Keith's hand in the right place, could do some damage, maybe cause a fracture. Stranger things have happened. Hence Keith's immediate reaction.
I don't feel bad for Carter at all and absolutely don't believe it warrants any further punishment.

And you're really expecting Keith to react rationally after what Carter did?
I agree, the game is very easy watching at home. - johndewar
I played hockey for 15+ years. When I was 10, a guy slew footed me. I got pissed and took a wild swing at the guy with my stick. When I got back to the bench, my dad grabbed me, pulled me off the bench and told me it was NEVER okay to take a wild swing at someone with your stick, and I've always believed that. That's why care about ti so much.
Also, are you saying it's more okay to slash someone's head if they're wearing a shield as opposed to someone who's not?

I'm just glad that slashes towards/near the hand warrant wild swings that can hit people in the face. Glad we established that. Who cares if a player loses an eye or gets a career-ending concussion, he might have given a guy a bone bruise on his wrist

I don't think you CAN overreact to a guy taking a wild slash at someone.
And I may be, but I don't think one warrants the other. If Carter slashes his hand, is Keith allowed to 2-hand him in the knee?

How about not taking a swing at anybody - or any body part - with your stick?

I really don't even know what you're arguing here.
None of it was "ok", but it's hypocritical to get in a twist over one thing (Keith's slash) without calling out why it happened (a dangerous slash to an exposed, sensitive body part).
