Today? Probably only Mark Fraser. He's just as big, just as mean, but younger and much more mobile.
Komisarek, Allen and Hamrlik in their formative years had much stronger claims to being legit top-4 dmen than Grossmann since they all had more well-rounded games.
Grossmann is one-dimensional... what he does he does really well... but there's nothing else there. - Tomahawk
Isn't Mcbain also one-dimensional, just towards the offensive side? From what I've read, there are serious issues with his defensive game (which, admittedly, could improve over time). |

K, I'll give ya that. Grossmann is one dimensional and is very good at what he does. And yes we need a puck moving D-man. Problem is Grossmann eats a ton of our hardest defensive minutes. I take a LONG HARD look at who you are getting back if he's included in a trade. We better have someone coming in who is just as good or better to eat that time. You trade Mez or forwards for that young mobile D-man who has yet to make a name for themselves. - FlyersGrace
Yup, but don't we have Schenn and Coburn to take a lot of those heavy minutes? And the Great Dane is in the pipeline, too. Guys like Lydman and Scuderi are UFA's... Tallinder and Volchenkov could be as well after COB.
It would be dealing from an area of apparent strength to fill an area of need, assuming Carolina would even be interested in Grossmann in the first place. |

He was touted as a two-way guy coming up, and he was that for the first 100-120 games of his NHL career, but he's fallen short since then and Muller's really soured on him. Him rounding out his offensive game is definitely less of a long shot than expecting Luke Schenn pull a Zdeno Chara offensively. |

Luke Schenn wasn't brought in with the expectation of equaling Chara in how he developed an offensive game. |

It's all about the price tag. Definitely worth taking a chance on a player like McBain for the right price. |

I hesitate to truly count on the Great Dane quite yet. As thrilling as his first shift in the NHL was. And he did seem to grow more confident the more he played.
I won't mind seeing more of him but I'm not saving him a seat in the top 6. Send him to the AHL and give him some monster minutes...
Until Homer makes some definitive moves in the off season I'd rather hang onto all our solid D I know can show up each and every night. I guess that's what I like about Grossmann is his consistent reliability. Coburn can be really good or really bad, Timmonen is damn smart but losing his speed and thus increasing his penalties... To keep him fresh you have to limit his minutes. Schenn has been a very nice surprise and with some more seasoning he's gonna be really, really good. I think Gus makes a name for himself next season. And Mez, man, he's a damn fine player when healthy... That's just a big IF...
Just not seeing that position of strength |

I have found that those from the meth-addled portion of Pennsylvania with the family trees that don't branch do not care for the Southeastern part of Pennsylvania no matter what sport/endeavor. |

BAH! It's a play off an old nickname.
My friends used to call me Feral Grace because of the violent way I used to dance.... A combination of ballet, belly dancing, and multiple martial arts styles.
The true irony is that a girl named Grace broke my leg,
FlyersGrace just worked from that. So yeah he's right not my real name. And strangely enough not Hope either

No idea. It's all super secret. If we find out her name or see pictures of her fighting with a sword she'll be forcibly expelled from the Cabal she works at.
(I think she's Yakuza but I have nothing to back it up) |
