Brayden Schenn, 5th overall, 2009 - Jsaquella
Not so fast my friend, top 5 drafted player by their original team (Doughty, Kane, Toews, Seguin). Of course, the Flyers met the criteria with JVR, but we know the rest of the history.
If I'm Homer I'm calling Yzerman, Poile (oh yes, so what if he hangs up, call again ) and Rutherford. Actually I'm sure he already has made those phone calls. |

I saw that.
Nice to at least restock the cupboards with potential top tier talent. Haven't had that chance in years....
Baseball drafts are so weird, aren't they? A first round pick to mature to have success in the MLB is almost surprising, ya know? - Giroux_Is_God
If he makes in in the majors before 5 years you got something special. Basically he is a position player they needed. They have pitchers & catchers of value in the system everything not so much. |

I was just saying in general- how many top 15 picks even make it to the Majors every year? Really not many.
I mean- Pujols was like a 12th round pick. Hell- Miggy was undrafted. Then you look at the last few years' worth of top 15 overall picks and without looking I've probably heard of 9.
Just really unpredictable. No other draft is like that. |

Drafts period are many times a guessing game, you have to more or less guess on how a kid will be years down the road.
Most of the time you'll be wrong but with at least 40 rounds in baseball you hope to get a handful to even contribute let alone full time starters. |

Yeah they're a guessing game, but I can flat out tell you in hockey, basketball, and football drafts who, from the top 5, are gonna be future studs.
Baseball is just an absolute crapshoot. |

TSN - OFF-SEASON GAME PLAN: PHILADELPHIA FLYERS
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=424843#YourCallTop - Chris48
What this did tell me that is awesome is that over the past 4 seasons, Giroux has more points than anyone in the league besides for Stamkos, St. Louis, and H sedin. Also over the past 2 seasons, only 4 players have more than 40 goals as well as over 150 PIMS, and we have 2 of those guys. Corey Perry, David Clarkson, Scott Hartnell, and Wayne Simmonds. |

Don't bet on even some in the top 5 being studs, even those picks have produced some busts. |

Yes....I know....
Not as much as baseball.
I'm just saying that baseball drafts are comically unpredictable compared to other major sports draft |

There's plenty of Alexandre Daigles and JaMarcus Russells dotting the land scape. |

If you make up for a mistake later, does it mean you never made the initial mistake in the first place?
Homer always cleans up after himself... sometimes for the better (Carter/Richards trades, Eminger for Carle*, Hamhuis to PIT), but a lot of times the all little mistakes just snowball and create more problems later on. - Tomahawk
* FWIW, Downie was the centerpiece of that deal for Tampa (people seem to focus solely on Eminger for Carle)...that said, the Bolts got all they could out of Eminger, who did fairly well stepping in and playing top minutes for them. |

It's not the only one that is misidentified as a mistake. Every GM makes mistakes, including Holmgren. But labeling him as mistake prone implies that he makes more mistakes then moves that aren't mistakes. And that is simply not true in my oponion - MJL
I don't infer that from that label...rather, I would take that to mean he has been known to slip up at times, but not necessarily making more mistakes than good moves.

I just feel so strongly that we have to see this through. We can't sell low on Couturier or Schenn. We just can't. - AllInForFlyers
I agree, and also want to hang on to them...but it is possible there are other GMs that may be willing to pay a fair price for one of them...I'm conceptually ok with trading one of them, so long as the return is of equal or greater value. |

For those who are high on Brayden Schenn, just curious but why?
After a glorious world junior history, I dont see too much. - flyer_nutter
Most of the time you have to give young players/prospects time to acclimate and develop their game at the NHL level...this can typically take up to 300 NHL games or so. We shouldn't expect a 21 yr old to be blowing up and leading the charge just yet. But what you do want to see is flashes of the high level play...the talent shining through, at least now and then, and I do see that in Schenn...when he has quality linemates he clicks with, like Jake, he's shown he can be pretty crafty and put up points...he got moved away from Voracek and played with Briere and Simmer, and found little more than sporadic chemistry...also worth mentioning, Schenn was playing out of his natural center position at wing at times, which not all players handle with ease. I'm trying not to read too much into what went down this season, especially with the youngest guys. It wasn't exactly an ideal environment for a very young player to build confidence in his game. I have high hopes for Schenn and Coots in the coming years and I see them as fairly equal in terms of potential upside value.

I wouldn't put Mark Sanchez in it, he has the talent the Jets just refuse to give him anything at all to work with to make it work. |

Do you think Schenn could hold a top line position and play LW for G and Jake? |
