Most of the time you have to give young players/prospects time to acclimate and develop their game at the NHL level...this can typically take up to 300 NHL games or so. We shouldn't expect a 21 yr old to be blowing up and leading the charge just yet. But what you do want to see is flashes of the high level play...the talent shining through, at least now and then, and I do see that in Schenn...when he has quality linemates he clicks with, like Jake, he's shown he can be pretty crafty and put up points...he got moved away from Voracek and played with Briere and Simmer, and found little more than sporadic chemistry...also worth mentioning, Schenn was playing out of his natural center position at wing at times, which not all players handle with ease. I'm trying not to read too much into what went down this season, especially with the youngest guys. It wasn't exactly an ideal environment for a very young player to build confidence in his game. I have high hopes for Schenn and Coots in the coming years and I see them as fairly equal in terms of potential upside value.

If B. Schenn is here for the long haul, I can expect him to be moved to wing. I just don't see the value of keeping Coots as a 3rd line center. I think he would have his offensive skills wasted. Schenn doesn't seem to have the defensive aptitude to handle a shut down center role.

Right now I just see G-Coots-Laughton occupying the top 3 center roles.

Crawford may be the downfall of these Hawks.

Our old friend Handzus did jack poop on that play.

Crawford has been outstanding the entire playoffs.

I agree. Schenn could very well end up at Wing.

To me, B. Schenn has very good skill level, I just don't see the defensive awareness anywhere close to Coots. It appears if Laughton is to stay in the NHL, he seems best suited to be that Bolland type 3rd line center (tough, irritating checker with some offensive skill).

I dont know how he doesnt become strictly a winger unless they trade Couturier and I'm almost certain they'd trade B Schenn before Couturier if they were going to trade either.

Well hopefully Schenn develops that part of his game as he matures.

Full disclosure, I readily admit I'm in the front seat of the Coots bandwagon. I believe he has the two-way game and as his body physically matures can be a very dynamic center.

Do you think Schenn could hold a top line position and play LW for G and Jake?
- JAKEw1234

He has the talent to play with those guys, in as much as Read played with them, Hartnell plays with them, yes, Schenn likely could as well...he has some chemistry with Voaracek and G...I think the Flyers were in camp with Schenn playing up with G if I recall, not sure how long that lasted.

It's like the movie "Groundhog Day" with the Flyer log-jams at center. There are worse "problems" I suppose.

They'll probably either trade a center or two away (ideally for quality D) or they'll have to adapt and make it work with centers playing wing.

About Coots being a 3rd line C....the Flyers usually have talent in their top 9 who could each rightly be in many other team's top 6...of course, G is your #1 C, but beyond that there's a pool of top six type talent, so it's more about finding the right line combos for chemistry (and production)...

Until the end of the season, the team was horrible at scoring goal 5 on 5. Hopefully it is only an aberration. I just thought I saw a little too much of Coots with vaunted scoring wingers Rinaldo, Knuble, Rosehill, and Hill. Maybe it was just me because I'm such a fan of Coots.

wow, what a save by Quick, he looked like a catcher with his glove and Kane hit the spot. Nonetheless, stellar save by Quick.
