And I've read Chicago fans baying for Quenneville's blood at various times in the years since their Cup win.

I for one, hope they don't buy out Bryz. No way I want part of his contract sticking around for the next 14 years. Then 4 years from now, people will be b*tching that his hanging cap is "bogging us down" from making other moves.
If it was a 100% buyout, and the cap was negated completely, I'd go along with it. - WarriorHockey21
That's what a compliance buyout is. |

If Chara had suffered a freak, career ending eye injury instead of Pronger things would be very different. - Feanor
We still had Pronger when we salary-dumped Gagne to shore up our defensive depth after the Finals, and when they dealt Richards and Carter for a 'different look', and when they decided to sign Bryz to end the goalie carousel (all that ended was Bob's stint in Philly). |

fixed one part of that for you
the rest I don't know... Lavi needs to adapt his system better to his players and if he can't I think most would agree he should go - Marc D
And I would agree with that, to some degree. If Laviolette can't adapt to the roster he's been given, then yes, I certainly understand that a coaching change would be needed.
While I was disappointed in this season, I have to admit that I was somewhat surprised at how many people wanted the Flyers "to clean house" after one missed playoff season in a shortened year.
I probably shouldn't have been surprised, but I honestly was.

If it was a 100% buyout, and the cap was negated completely, I'd go along with it. But I just don't see any way you can justify having him on the books for that long, essentially just dead space.
Briere, however, could probably be dealt with for a few years.
Bryz, I wouldn't label a #1 concern. He wasn't worth the money this season, but he was certainly solid enough to give them chances. If anything, try to pry him from his NMC, and find someone to pull a fast one on a trade for practically no return.
I just don't see carrying that dead weight in cap is the best choice right now. Especially since they're always at the very top line of cap space anyway... - WarriorHockey21
A CBO of Bryzgalov would not carry any dead cap weight. It would be 100% cap hit free. |

This is true, but the one thing I'll say about that is this: "We," as in the overall fanbase and/or the media, aren't exactly guiltless in this regard. - AllInForFlyers
The only time I truly believe the fan base influenced the decisions of management was during the Jay Snider/Russ Farwell era. |

with all the issues the flyers have had over the years with goalies it would be appropriate to hire ex flyer goalers to management/scouting positions. |

Actually, some of the frustration with Laviolette (for me, anyway) goes back to games the previous season against NJD, the Rangers, and Boston.
All of those teams seemed to be able to beat the Flyers in efficient, predictable fashion last year, so when the same thing happened in this truncated season, it gave the appearance of Laviolette trotting out the same philosophy or not pushing the right buttons.
I was an advocate of firing Lavi early on this past (shortened) season, but at this point (IMO), you might as well let him go into next season after a full camp to see how he does. |

Lucky for them people buy into their prospects who all stink. Best to get picks from them in trades otherwise you get nothing. |

Boston fans aren't that different from Philly fans and I saw more than one want Julien gone when the team was faltering down the stretch and trying to find their footing against Toronto. - johndewar
Yeah, all fan bases tend to be irrational, emotional and impatient.
The real difference is in ownership and management. Chiarelli is analytical, detail-oriented and patient, whereas Homer tends to be mistake-prone and quick to action/reaction, and Snider's shadow is always looming large. |

Honestly asking: Isn't their AHL affiliate pretty good? Do they do that with prospects or seasoned AHL guys?

It certainly has been different in Boston under Chiarelli, and I would never dispute that.
But boy, before he got there, it was just like Philadelphia. Mike Keenan, Laviolette, Dave Lewis, Mike O'Connell, Joe Thornton discarded...they operated just like we did/do.
We just have to stop knee-jerking and trading everything that moves, firing every coach.

They have three Defensemen current who look to be NHL caliber. After that it's extremely thin. They are going to need them to fill spots quickly. I have doubts that one of them can make the jump.
Wilkes Barre is mostly minor leaguers but is a damn good AHL team. |
