Yeah, and that pretty much sums up Fleury the last few years. His poor play caused a hole to dig out of. He was great in Game 7, but clearly his fault why there was a Game 7 (not completely, that roster was dog sh*t)
- Gunner Staal

Sheesh... I just looked at those box scores...

In Game #5 at home, he was pulled 25 minutes in after giving up 4 goals on 14 shots (.712 sv%)

In Game #6, he gave up 4 goals on 21 shots (.810 sv%), and in the third period with the game tied, Tampa was limited to 5 shots but scored on two of them to win 4-2 and push game 7.

I like Hillier better than Miller too. I would love to see a deal with Florida for Markstrom though... let him simmer with Vokoun next season then boom. We might have to sweeten the pot to get him, but I could see it as a possibility. What teams would be interested in Fleury? NJ? EDM? Phx if smith signs somewhere else? Tampa? Maybe get bishop or lindback back as part of the deal?
- ChrisMS

I doubt it would happen but NJ would be a good fit for Fleury. Strong system in front of him where he isnt asked to do too much. Brodeur and Hedberg are old and they need youth at the position going forward.

I just can't see Florida giving Markstom up. They have zero depth in goal, and Markstrom is a guy that they've drafted and developed.

Trading Fleury seems to be a topic but come on we most likely failed to reach the cup finals with this roster and all of the talent on it. What needs to change?
- dbell646

He's an easy target for sure, but you can't have a $5mil/year back up or risk a situation like the one that played out in Vancouver this year. It makes him an easy candidate for a buyout or trade.

Alternatively, do you roll the dice, change the coaching staff, and hope that MAF regains his confidence and poise by playing behind a more defensive oriented club? He may feel less compelled to try to do too much to in net and play a better, more sound game, if they play better in front of him--getting back to stopping even the routine shots he's been too prone to let in.

A coach and a goalie change would not be a surprise.

You know its bad when your best d-man for the series has been Engo.
- Francois Leroux

I don't know... I think Paul Martin has been good. No player....forward or defense was good in the 2nd game. maybe matt cooke.

I think they would have to see Fleury as their long-term goalie. Hey, they supposedly would have taken Luongo if the price was right....

Biggest issue I see beyond the obvious mistakes is that we have a lot of guys who do one thing really well while Boston has a lot of very well rounded 2way players.

The entire team quit in front of him that game. They game out blazing...dominated play, hit a couple posts, fell behind one nothing and absolutely quit on their way to getting blown out. They gave up the first goal then proceeded to melt down in a manner we've all become accustomed to watching these past few springs.

Could a coach make sidney and malkin and letang play a defensive style game? Bylsma was a career 4th liner who seemed to try to bring that attitude into the locker room. but if your star players say no thanks, who's gonna tell them no. Bylsma should not be the target in my opinion...

Interesting observation. That goes back on the system then. Guys like Crosby, Kunitz, Dupuis are really well rounded 2 way players, but had zero success.

I'm sorry but the people in here that are bashing Fleury are just making me sick to my stomach. You should be ashamed to consider yourself a Pens fan. Peace

But f'reals, I don't think Fleury is a bad goalie, though his confidence problems have made him one in the postseason. I think at this point he might need a change of scenery to right the ship. Of course, I don't watch the Pens night in and night out, so this opinion is sold 'as is'.

Penguins in three-game hole against Boston

Old news but I thought the Penguins played really well, Vokoun and Malkin especially. If that was not 2OT in the conference finals Jagr would have been called for hooking Malkin. Hopefully Tuukka can keep it up because I expect more of the same effort from the Penguins tomorrow.

One thing I've always noticed is this team struggles when faced with a crowded neutral zone. The Isle tortured them with that 1-3-1 and the B's are killing them in the same way. It seem like this team can only play one way.

How 'bout MAF and Letang to Colorado for a couple of their assets? I could see Roy wanting to take a shot at fixing MAF.

Crosby was mostly shut down in the 09 finals by Detroit as well. The rest of the team buckled down and played a 2 way game to win the series.

I guess I am kind of indifferent on Bylsma. Last night the team played the system they needed to in order to win. Like Gunner said yesterday, keep the game manageable into the 3rd and see what happens---they did just that. However, in watching that game, does anybody really think they could put forth that kind of effort for 2, 3, 4 more games? I honestly do not think they are capable of it. They looked exhausted---I said to somebody I was watching the game with that despite the fact that the dump and chase is supposed to tire out a defense over the course of a game, it looked equally tiring on our guys trying to forecheck and play that style. Boston makes it look effortless. We are not built to play that style for long stretches IMO.

The Pens have no 1st or 2nd round pick this year, and no 2nd round pick next year. Gotta think that moving Letang can help fill that void.

I don't know if this was discussed already, but did you guys see the tweet that said Malkin could get 15M tax free in the K

Not saying he leaves, but that's a scary thought

Wasting your time.....Vokoun played a near perfect game last night. To think Fleury would have been a part of a different outcome is ridiculous. Some people equate blind loyalty to being a fan. It is like a parent who wont believe their kid did something wrong even when showed surveillance footage of said kid shoplifting/fighting/etc.
