Hes a better bottom 6 player than guys like Scott, McCormick, Ellis, Kaleta, Gerbe...

Our bottom 6 is what hurt us this year. We were forced to play our best offensive players in defensive situations because we had a non-existent NHL 4th line and a partial NHL 3rd line.

You can assemble best bottom 6 in the league, and if your top 6 underwhelms, it makes very little difference.

Hey everyone. Been a while. Pretty busy workload which I am not complaining about in the least.

But on topic, what does everyone think of Hunter Shinkaruk seeing that I don't expect Darcy to do anything except talk a good game about moving up into the top 4.
I know he is on the smallish side but those numbers are tough to ignore. Am I right?

Check the penalty kill while he was suspended.

I'm finding this draft hard to project - I'd love to get a shot at him with our 2nd first round pick.

The one thing Buffalo's Ruff-led teams didn't struggle with up until this year, which was just a Murphy's Law type of season, was penalty killing. The Sabres have had more than their fair share of above average penalty killers throughout the years. Paille was in the middle of that pack. Seidenberg is playing well, as is Horton, and I never denied that. My question is: can they replicate that type of play on most other teams? History says no. Horton could always score, but he had a lazy player stigma in Florida. Seidenberg has talent, but make no mistake, he is helped greatly helped by Chara eating minutes. A lot of these guys are maximizing their play because they are in the right environment, not because they are difference makers. And good for them, they still need to actually play the game. All I am saying is, they are not difference makers by themselves. That is what Buffalo sorely needs.

Give the Sabres Crosby. We still don't win a cup with Stafford and Gerbe on our 2nd line and Matt Ellis on our 4th. The Bruins have the talent, and are committed to defense. That's why they win. Their roster isn't short if impact players

get the sabres in a deep playoff run and you'd be more than happy to have seidenberg and horton. hard to be a difference maker on a crap team.

yost did a thing about the sabres PK and the shots against with kaleta on the ice goes WAY up. his blocked shots are also not even impressive, you just notice it because whenever he blocks one it hurts him so we think hes a warrior

Yea this is what I thought myself would be the ideal spot for him but I doubt he makes it past the Stars.

I think we go center at 8 and defense at 16.
Just my 2 cents.

Oh absolutely. Those are guys I'm looking for if I am a piece or two away from the cup. Right now, the Sabres should be looking for guys they can build a team around, and only guys they can build a team around. Guys like Seidenberg and Horton are what you use to build with. You need the foundation first. Lucic, Krejci, Chara, and Bergeron are more of the foundation types. Those are the types of guys the Sabres need to focus all efforts on getting right now.

Until I get guys that can make just about anybody around him a better player, I don't care who else is on my roster. If I have to say "it's hard for him to perform well on such a crap team", then I'm not interested in him, not at this stage. I need guys that can turn a crap team into a good one, almost by themselves.

I don't think anyone was disagreeing with that. But your downplaying the importance of guys like Paille or Seidenberg. Winning a cup is tough, everything has to fall into place. Every player has to play their role, especially in Boston where they roll 4 lines for most of the game
