I keep Dan until next season and let him go if the team doesn't look on fire from the start. only exception for me is Tippett... he solves so many issues including Fluery... he would make Fluery the next Brodeur - ChrisMS
Not a Dan fan. Too idealistic and not realistic. |

If you're going to judge Dan Bylsma on how the team plays in the regular season, you'd be crazy to want him fired. Quickest coach to reach 200 wins. I fully expect this team to be near the top of the standings next year with or without Disco. Unfortunately that's not the reason people are questioning his tenure. |

Hahaha... did anyone catch this exchange yesterday afternoon between Beau Bennett and Andrew Taglianetti. Andrew is Peter's kid who works with the Pens equipment crew.

Didn't end the way we wanted but thanks for a fun first year in the Burgh.

Lots of knee jerk reactions in here which is to be expected. |

hopefully on Wednesday, shero has an answer for us. Penguins cant turn this into a Loungo situation where no one really knows whats going on. Penguins cant let this take the whole summer because too many moves are influenced by this coaching decision.
it seems like his assistants are goners regardless.
I hope bylsma goes, but I wouldn't be shocked if he stayed. bylsma is a good coach and a good guy. he should go to a team like PHX or either florida team. they would benefit from his exciting style. he would likely help them reach the playoffs. |

not me. I've felt this way for over a year. |

Tippett's system is a nightmare. The less Lemieux is involved in coaches and personnel decisions the better. |

FIRE BYLSMA!
TRADE EVERYONE!
HIRE ANY COACH OFF THESE FAN LISTS! |

I also think the team construction and calls to blow it up are nuts. 3 of the 4 games could have gone either way against one of the other top 4 teams in the league. I doubt we see Shero go all out at the deadline again for a few years, both due to salary cap restrictions and because you cant give up assets like that so often. Oh well.
There will be moves. Letang and Fleury are the two whose future seems to be the most up in the air. |

is it boring? sure.
it's conservative.
the only problem is that he's never run it with the starpower that PIT has. it is more for teams that don't have good players.
it's a gamble, but IMO it sure cant be any worse than DB's. |

just a thought, how about this:
Letang
for
Gallagher
Bealieu
1st round
the only problem I see with this deal is that MTL doesn't really need a player like Letang given the fact they have subban. Yet MTL wouldn't have to worry about Letang's contract because no doubt he would resign for his hometown team.
this would be a good package for the pens. Gallagher is exactly what the penguins need. youth with heart. Bealieu could be Despres's d partner. (him and Despres were d partners while playing for St. Johns in the QMJHL)
another team might be able to give more, but this deal makes a ton of sense for the penguins IMO. just not sure for MTL. |

I personally think Shero's relationship with Columbus could be huge. There are a bunch of options to choose from. I'm not saying Bobrovsky. Or anyone else in particular. I'm sure a roster player or two would be arranged. Although that'd be interesting and likely what I am saying is that they have 3 1st round picks. Getting one or more of those could be huge. They pick 14th, 19th and 27th. Players I'd like them to look at if they could get back into the first round are:
Anthony Mantha
QMJHL
Val-d'Or
Adam Erne
QMJHL
Quebec
Rasmus Ristolainen
Finland
TPS
Max Domi
OHL
London
Valeri Nischushkin
Chelyabinsk
Russia
and
Nikita Zadorov

What do ya guys think about this for 2013-14 and 14-15, The only salary if's may be Cooke and Dupuis... in which case Jussi becomes completely expendable if need be otherwise he can fit. Eaton's name is only in there as a name, I don't know if he'll back. Iginla and Murray are if's too, but I think they come back. Niskanen, Jeffrey and Kennedy will be traded... Hopefully Glass can be
2013-14 Roster
FORWARDS
James Neal ($5.000m) / Evgeni Malkin ($8.700m) / Chris Kunitz ($3.725m)
Beau Bennett ($0.9m) / Sidney Crosby ($8.7m) / Jarome Iginla ($3.0m)
Matt Cooke ($2.20m) / Brandon Sutter ($2.067m) / Pascal Dupuis ($2.4m)
Joe Vitale ($0.550m) / Jussi Jokinen ($2.100m) / Craig Adams ($0.675m)
Dustin Jeffrey ($0.688m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Paul Martin ($5.000m) / Brooks Orpik ($3.750m)
Kris Letang ($3.500m) / Simon Despres ($0.840m)
Mark Eaton ($0.725m) / Douglas Murray ($2.000m)
Deryk Engelland ($0.567m) /
GOALTENDERS
Marc-Andre Fleury ($5.000m)
Tomas Vokoun ($2.000m)
Cap Space about 165k
2014-15 is a whole other ball of wax:
Letang goes to 7mil per, Malkin 9.7. I would not explore anymore $$$ for Letang, I would rather try 2 shutdown D for that price and let Martin, Despres, Harrington and Pouliot maybe later handling the transition game. Sutter will have to stay at 3.0 mil, would move him otherwise, hasn't justified more yet. Fleury and Martin are UFA after this year, their 10 Mil in cap space is vital for Bennett post ELC. Orpik and Kunitz are UFA and could be resigned to slightly less deals... I picked Kuni because Orpik's money could be spent on Despres post ELC. Everyone says all these deals can't be made and there probably will be some that don't but here are some numbers that could work. I do think Fleury will get another shot with a goalie coach.... however the 2013 season will be his last chance, 2014 may be a stretch for him to be playing as a Pen, his dollars as you can see could really be stretched for the 3rd or 4th lines, you could see the Pens going cheap on a goalie this year or exploring trading James Neal if his streaky production continues.
2014-15 Roster
FORWARDS
James Neal ($5.000m) / Evgeni Malkin ($9.700m) / Chris Kunitz ($3.000m)
Pascal Dupuis ($2.4m) / Sidney Crosby ($8.70m) / Beau Bennett ($0.900m)
Matt Cooke ($2.250m) / Brandon Sutter ($3.00m) / Someone ($1.000m)
Someone ($0.725m) / Joe Vitale ($0.750m) / Someone ($0.675m)
Anton Zlobin ($0.608m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Simon Despres ($2.75m) / Kris Letang ($7.000m)
Paul Martin ($5.000m) / Scott Harrington ($0.911m)
Olli Maata ($0.840m) / Douglas Murray ($2.000m)
Robert Bortuzzo ($0.750m) /
GOALTENDERS
Marc-Andre Fleury ($5.000m)
Eric Hartzell ($0.874m)
Cap space is about 700k
Some of the choices are there for a reason and others are just fill ins as numbers. |

Well its Monday.. so just waiting on my txt from pens or twitter to blow up about DB being fired....
yup just sitting here sipping my coffee and waiting....
I still think iggy dupes cooke and murray all resign for discounts soon, malkin after july 1st and then there will be big news at draft... does anyone think hartzell will get resigned and then be groomed to be a starter? |

I feel like this is the wrong attitude to have. Bylsma would be hired in a minute if fired. The last thing I want is this team to play a Tippett or Tortorella style hockey. |

I dont want Murray back. Or Morrow. I'd take Iginla, Dupuis, and Cooke for the right price. Thats it. |
|
|

Just read on sportsnet that Letang wants at least 7 million and probably closer to 8
on an 8 year deal with a full no movement clause....
see ya Kris |

I heard an interview last night with peter taglianetti...
He was asked a question about why the defense look so bad at times....
He said he thought there were big problems with communication. He said it looked like one guy didn't know what the other was going to do. I really do wonder if Simone Despres was allowed to play and gel with Letang all season, would Letang have looked like the player most of us considered a must keep this off season?

I just watch the final word on wpxi... that's what rossi is saying. letang wants 7 mil for like 5 yrs or something... all the panelist agreed he is probably going... |

I'm confident Mario would not allow this team to play a full on defensive system. |

Are we really putting Rick Tocchet's name out there for a head coach of a legitimate Stanley Cup contender?
Is this just based on his critique of this year's Pens team? Because it really can't be based on his coaching resume. |

I think he would be a good mix of bylsma and torts.. you need someone to not sit there and be there friends and hold their hands.. you have some of the best players in the world not able to score and play a simple system or beat a simple system.. |
