$10M over two years for Gonchar at this point in his career is an absolutely horrific signing. |

$10 MILLION FOR GONCHAR???? WHAT ARE THEY THINKING???? HAVE THEY NOT LEARNED??? (AVERY)!!!!! They are ruining free agency. - 89mogo
I agree. They set the bar HUGE for any other signing. The good news though is if the silly GM's spend like this then smart GMs that wait can get some quality role playing guys for next to nothing as no one will have cap room left. Plus they lock their hands at the trade deadline. Dallas set the bar but they also got themselves a 37 year old defense man for 5 mill a year when he is worth about 3-3.5 a year tops. I hope more GM's do that. |

Before this Gonchar signing I would of said that 3 years at $ 5M is the ceiling. Now it could be as high as $ 5.75. Sens could give him Gonchar's previous contract-- three years at $ 5.5M |

Marek will not be in a Devils uni come 2013-2014. Devils completely re-building D and with Marek at 36 years...time to cut ties. Huge Liability on D. |

What I don't understand is why the Blues would want Miller? They started the year with Halak who IMO is better than Miller and using Jake Allen as a backup who is suppose to be the next big thing. Obviously they like them as they weren't playing Elliot who just got off a season with 9 SOs. Then Elliot gets his shot and takes over. Again proving he is an elite goalie. So now they have two starters that are arguably better than Miller and Jake Allen who they really want to play. They aren't going to part with Allen. Elliot makes a 1.5 a year so he is safe and Halak gets paid less than Miller.
St. Louis has a bunch of RFA's, good ones, that need resigning. Plus they need a Center. The only way this makes sense is if St. Louis is trading Elliot and Halak. I just don't see a reason you trade a 1.5 mill goalie that is doing so well for a worse goalie that adds almost 4 mill cap space. In fact there is no team in the league that needs miller less than St. louis. |

I will bet you one billion dollars, or any amount you want, that no one, and I mean absolutely no team will sign him for more than 8 years. |

Dammit, you had to ruin it for me. I was gonna be a billionaire you know.
It's 8 years for your own players, 7 for others. |

It depends on which GMs and scouts Eklund has gotten the time to speak to that particular week. |

The Oilers are rumored to want Streit in a big way. He is good friends with the Oilers coach from their time playing on the Swiss team. Speculation of them trading for his rights has been around since April and now Eklund reports he has heard it from a source. Still they don't make the rumor chart. Oilers have a huge need on d. No assets of any real value to trade for a dman but lots of cap space. Streit would get top minutes with Justin Schultz and play for a coach he knows well. That has to at least be worth 5%.
If Edmonton was an American team Eklund would have put them at 45. They have then at 20% for signing whitney and he has publicly said he will never play in Edmonton again. |

Gonchar is 39, and signing him for 2 years at that price is just foolish. At least with a 1 year deal, the over 35 contract restrictions don't kick in. It actually would have been smarter to sign him for even 6 mil for one year, rather than 5 per for 2.
Once again proof that the biggest enemy of NHL owners is not the players it's themselves and their GMs! |

Great for the PP brutal for even strength. Streit can still get you points on the PP but he can't be getting top pairing minutes overall. Absolute train wreck in his own zone and I like the guy and its not a typical bashing from a fan of a player who just left his team. Just the truth |

Lol Gonchar isn't Avery. It's only 2 years, Gonchar was terrific last year, and this is easily a market value deal. The market for D-men is really weak this offseason; Gonchar would have gotten 2/10 or better on the FA market. |

So I guess people forgot about Gonchar stepping up when Karlsson went down and being a big reason they kept rolling. Now in Dallas he has the same role that he has filled adequately. Dallas overpaid slightly to get experience that will slot into their top 4. |
