You don't know that. Bryzgalov has proven in the past that he can play at a high level with a team that plays well defensively, in the past. - MJL
didn't help him in the plyoffs w/ PHO, did it? |

Are you going to ignore whatever doesn't fit your premise? How about in Anaheim? This is a player that has been a finalist for the Vezina Trophy.

The value of defensemen is completely out of whack right now. It is. It's one thing to be a good player. But when you start talking multiple, quality assets for one player, then you aren't just a good player. You're a difference maker. You change your entire unit by the minutes you play, the matchups you face.
Is Keith Yandle that guy? Seriously? He isn't even "that guy" in Phoenix -- Oliver Ekman-Larsson is! - AllInForFlyers
reality is, that's their mkt value and i don't think it's going to change anytime soon. all the more reason to draft and develop your own. |

Agreed -- man. The Flyers are never patient, and that's good and bad. You can't always wait for tomorrow at the expense of today.
But can we at least draft a couple of defensemen on June 30 before we start trading Top-10 draft picks who are still developing? There should be no rush right now -- we just missed the playoffs, certainly, but in a 48-game season. Claude Giroux's only 25 years old!
We just don't have to do anything right now.

i'll leave that to you. if you want to rely on stats from 6 yrs ago when he was a back up, go ahead. might as well say martin gerber would have led CAR to the cup in '06.
he's a system goalie, who is average over all at this point. nothing wrong with sticking it out w/ him another yr if there wasn't a cap, a recapture clause and some credible doubts about whether he wants to be here or not. |

Yes, let's ignore actual data from games that were actually played as a reference to the player, and how he has played very well at times, in a playoff setting. In favor of complete speculation that Chicago could have never beaten Detroit with Bryzgalov in net. That can't be backed with any facts. And those stats I referenced were for playoff games that he started. Not as a backup.
The decision of what to do with the Bryzgalov in Philly, is completely separate, and pretty much irrelevant to the original statement you made, that I replied to.
That is a different discussion all together. |

I'm all for moving on from Bryz. Doesn't make much sense to keep him around for another year and than buy him out. Not worth the risk. |

Let the young core grow and with a goalie like Mason (Bernier if Flyers want him). I'm okay with giving some of these younger defenseman a chance. They will make mistakes but they will continue to grow. No need to panic. Don't make a trade unless you feel its impossible to turn down. |

there aren't any easy answers, but i see two possible directions for this coming year. 1) trade for a guy like mcbain who hasn't developed the way they thought or 2) aim higher and go after a yandle or shattenkirk. the former would likely cost at least something like cousins and a draft pick and the latter would require moving couts or schenn+.
as far as drafting, the team has a solid 1st rnd track record of drafting quality centers and i don't think they will vary from that. from the 2nd rnd on, i would lean towards dmen if they value is close however. their track record with drafting top 4 dmen & starting goalies is horrific the last 25 yrs, so i dunno what to say but keep trying and look at possible scouting upgrades...that, and try to exercise more patience. |

I like Cloutier's blog. Flyers are going to trade Couturier to move up 4 spots in the draft? Yea, okay! |

Actually he's suggesting trading the 7th overall pick and another pick(he mentioned a second rounder) for Couturier. No mention of the 11th pick. |

Would you make that deal?
You would have picks #7, #11, plus 2nd rounder or another prospect ? |

I think this may be the offseason Yandle gets dealt because I just wonder what the budget will be for payroll, no matter who owns it. I have to believe they don't want to be anywhere near the ceiling. Can they financially afford 3 players making over $5 million/year with OEL's extension starting. Certainly OEL and Doan aren't going anywhere. Not to mention, Smith is an UFA looking for a raise. I think he can be traded for, the Yotes definitely need forward help with a reasonable cap hit. |

Not certain, but I'd definitely think long and hard about it. Maybe 7 & 11 combined can get you in the top 3 |

I think I would keep both picks and stack my team for the future. I would also need another prospect dman in return. Not sure I would want a second rounder. |

Keep 7 & 11, and then use the two second rounders (37 & 41) to land a late first rounder and a shot at Hagg or Morin |
