If my GM introduces a new head coach and he gives him a jersey, I fire him.

He should give him a tie or a track suit or a firm handshake...

Yep, I'm sure MacTavish was in the arena store for hours, hunting down the right size jersey and waiting for Eakins name to get heat pressed on the back

I hope he got goalie cut to reflect their biggest need. I need some subtext.

Edit: He already missed out on Gonchar during his shoppin'.

Kind of like back in the early 1990's...the NBA was rising in popularity, so the NHL decided to hire a commissioner from their ranks to run the NHL...and we got two decades of Gary B Bettman

And during that time the NHL has been surpassed in popularity by NASCAR in the US, lost a full season and half of two others in lockouts, implemented a cap system that saw salaries skyrocket and attendance stay stagnant and the league expanded carelessly into areas that haven't been able to really support teams.

If you hire a henchman, make sure it's the right one.

Or just interview candidates and hire the best one without regard for which teams they've worked for.

I hate long contracts but after Suter leaving and nearly losing Weber I can see why they locked him up. A lot of term and money for a guy with one full year under his belt.

Flyers better get lucky with their draft picks and get better at developing defenseman.

- Marc D

Nashville...

I understand they're paying for his eventual potential production and some UFA years, but hell, so much for the return of the bridge 2nd-contract, eh? Looks like agents aren't taking any chances after what Subban was able to do this past season.

Voynov is going to get one of those huge Publisher's Clearing House checks.

If the Flyers buy out Bryz, will Homer have any interest in Miller?
- mhp

I hope to god no, what's the point in getting rid of one overpaid avg to mediocre goalie who more often than not is good for a softie a game to just to bring in another one?

The agents for Pietrangleo and Shattenkirk are quite happy how this offseasion is progressing.

Gotta believe Voynov will get $5 million/yr, Pietrangelo over $7.5 million, and Shattenkirk close to $5 million/yr.

I wouldn't be surprised to see one or more of those names holding out into camp and beyond, a la Doughty 2011.

Good guesses but I think pietro will get 8 yrs at under 7 mil annually. Shatty will get closer to 5 as well as voynov but both under for sure

Late to the post as usual, But I think the Flyers need to buyout Bryz and Briere. Then not rush to use up the cap space unless the move really improves the club or is a one year deal. Keep that flexibility so you can pounce when the time is right.

Here's a thought...Paul Ranger.

Missed a couple few years with personal issues, but played solid hockey in the AHL this season and is a UFA. Still only 28 years of age, good size and skater.

Big fan of Paul Ranger... aside from Dreger's last tweet connecting him to EDM, has there been any other signs that he's willing to resume his NHL career outside of TOR?

Nope. I just had him pop in my head. The Edmonton connection, with Eakins, is obvious, though.

Yeah, he supposedly turned down a few offers when the lockout ended. I wonder if he'd be willing to make a comeback now that Eakins is gone.
