Just so you know, Crosby is making more than 10M per season for a while, different CBA, different wiggle room. - Gunner Staal
I understand that, but its the cap that matters. Kane/Toews, Zetterberg/Datsyuk, ect....no other team has that much money committed to just 2 players. As good as Malkin is, I think that cap hit would hurt the depth of the team. |

The cap is going to go up every single freaking year. |

The Pens and Rangers tried to out tough the Bruins.... the Maple Leafs tried to outskate them (and came the closest to beating them).
It will be interesting to see what Chicago does... They have the horses to outskate them, but with playoff officiating, maybe the Bruins can slow them down enough to negate that? - rival22
The difference between Chicago v. Boston and Pittsburgh v. Boston is simple. Chicago's coach is better and Chicago's defense is better. They won't get sucked into playing Boston's game. Qville makes adjustments. |

LOL ... that helps Philly's defense how exactly? It gives them a point man on the power play and a possible replacement for the declining Timonen. - Oneonta Penguin
Philly logic, let's replace a 38 y/o with a 35 y/o |

Do you realize the cap will continue to go up every year after this year? Stop it.

Streit is going to want at least a Gonchar deal ($5 million per year), and the Flyers are already well over the cap.

Isn't the growth of the cap limited under the new CBA? Under the original CAP enforced the cap went from 40-70, some teams struggled to meet the floor...Isnt that why they had a lockout to stop that from happening again? |

Yeah.... and if we get another team move (or expansion), revenue will skyrocket. Just the Islanders to Brooklyn will give it a bump. - rival22
If it does get to that, it will be interesting to see the values of some players, remember 3 years ago when Scuderi got over 3 mil per season and it was a borderline overpayment. Letang getting 7 mil now may seem like a lot, but 5 years from now that may look like a good deal |

With Gonchar and Streit off the market, there really are no more even decent offensive defensmen UFA's.
Couldn't be a better sellers' market for the Pens to move Letang... |

A couple obvious buyouts, for starters. I don't like this trade, though. Why not just pursue him in the offseason? |

I dont get it either. Streit would help the Flyers, but trading for players ahead of the UFA deadline is usually useless and leads to paying market value anyway. |

Obvious, I assume Bryz and Briere?
You guys might be in a world of hurt next year. Giroux, Brayden Schenn and the next coming of Ron Francis (Couturiere) are RFAs and Reed is a UFA |

LOL
Well, right now those four I mentioned make a combined 9.135 million. I think that will be upped quite a bit. Schenn is GROSSLY overpaid. 3.11 million for what? |

Only good thing is that Timonen and Meszaros come off next summer, and that is $10 million.

Well I can't wait to see Bylsma trying his best to get his team playing Pittsburgh Penguins hockey again
I just don't see this ending up well.... I do think Shero took the blame as far the deadline acquisitions go.... and he deserves some of it... but Bylsma has got to learn how to adapt in a game... its inferiorating |

Morrow for Morrow... I dunno about that...I could understand because he thought that was probably the only forward he was gonna get but Morrow didn't look good all year... and lets face it in a Bylsma system, the guy wasn't gonna do well.
I was ok with the Iginla trade, asset wise but it was really just done in a rush decision. I blame Bylsma more in this instance for not finding a proper spot, ie. left wing and letting Sid just dictate what the lines are.
Murray and Jokinen were fine acquisitions |

I take my shots, so I'll accept some in return.

It will also be interesting to see how many empty seats start cropping up in arenas if it gets to $85 mil a year and even the cheapest seat in the rafters is $150/game |
