As a Flyer fan, this is great news. Keeps the rivalry strong, and it will be a pleasure to see G beat up on both Sid and Alexei.
I still think Letang should be a priority but would be more than happy to see him go to another team.
Great day to all!
Cheers! - Daman

That'll be the comparable. His agent says they're looking for four years, so I expect three. I imagine he'll try to push it up to $18m, in the end I expect something between a $5.5 and $6m cap hit.
That's me trying to be realistic. I don't like nor hate this deal. I'm not a huge fan of trading for an expiring contract, I think it gives the player all the leverage at the bargaining table. Just ask Ilya. - BulliesPhan87
Again, Mark Streit doesn't solve Philly's problem. He is lousy defensively. I'm happy with him sitting right there eating up 5 million of cap space for every year he is there. He is a worse version of Kimo Timonen; one year younger and worse defensively and that isn't a complement to Timonen in any way, shape or fashion because he has seriously regressed. |

I'm not Shero's biggest fan (not to say I think he's terrible or anything), but he did right here. Anybody who thinks this is a bad contract doesn't understand the new CBA nor the changing salary structure. - BulliesPhan87
Shero is the best in the business when dealing with the cap. You aren't a fan of his because you wish you had him instead of that fool you have - probably.

Our problem wasn't a lack of defensive defensemen, though. It was, among other things, difficulty moving the puck out of our zone. He should help some in that department. That's not to say I'm enamored with this move, but it does help a bit. It feels more like a bandaid, though. |

I don't disagree, but the Pens d corps will never be confused with the old NJ Devils with S Stevens. |

Holmgren is an awful GM. If you don't think so, you have problems.

Kimmo Timonen seriously regressed? He was 7th among all d-men in points, a +3 on a vastly - team, and did so while playing through various injuries... The only thing that truly regressed was his foot speed (due to playing through the injury)
Streit surely improves possibly the biggest weakness the Flyers had... moving the puck from the back end.
Defensively we were a mess last year, but primarily because of the amount of injuries we had to fight through. Not counting Pronger or Bourdon... We had Grossmann, Meszaros, and Coburn all miss significant time. Id love to see your 3-5th d-men miss most of the season. |

No, but Streit is probably a top D pairing guy in Philly; defensively, I'm not sure he is a third D pairing guy in Pittsburgh and that isn't saying much. |

I value Mark Streit's puck moving ability but as I said, he's not worth a penny above $5M. He's 35 and very slow for christ sakes.
Get Letang done at $6-6.5M Shero! Do it! |

The only reason the Pens are a great team now is that they sucked so bad for so long and collected top 5 picks for a number of years. They were basically handed a top 5 player in the game in Crosby.
No knock on Shero - he is very good, but let's keep things in perpective.

This is truly a great day for the franchise.
Two of the best generational talents are now locked up until 2021-2022.
The Penguins will never be in a rebuild. Only a re-tool. Great place to be as a franchise.
At the very least you will see something once a game from those two that no other fan base in the league has the ability to see on a nightly basis. That is worth its weight in gold as a fan IMO. |

I see no way Letang goes easy at the negotiating table. Then again, I don't believe in discounts in general. |

We'll get a very good return if he leaves. I have no doubt about that. |

Timonen has regressed. It's not rocket science here. Anyone with a hockey IQ can see it. He is SLOWER.
Streit moves the puck, but defensively, which was the problem in Philly, he is worse than Timonen.
You need to stop using the Pronger card as far as injuries. You need to accept the fact he isn't playing again. Your defense wouldn't have been good if injuries didn't happen. Everyone had injuries. The fact remains this, you don't have anything on the farm that you could use to fill the void. Almost everyone else does in some fashion, except Calgary. |

Based on the way he played in the play-offs, nope. His stock dropped significantly.
