Seriously trying to tell me what the Flyers problems were last year?
In a nut shell... we had a most AHL caliber defense aside from the top pairing for the majority of the season. Our top d-man (who regressed soooo mightily that only 3 people in the entire NHL had more points AND a better +- ) was playing with multiple injuries which forced him out of play (a total rarity in and of itself).
-Back to the nutshell-
Our AHL defense was not at all supported by our forwards. We had zero dedication to team defense. Forwards were typically sitting in the neutral zone looking for homerun passes that were not to come. Our single biggest problem was the lack of a true puck moving d-man. After that it was a lack of team wide commitment to defense. Our d-men were not the problem (for our defensive woes) our forwards were. - jak521
In a nutshell, you have one of the worst farm systems in the NHL as far as talent and you had no one close to being capable of filling in the needs. Your defense wasn't good; your goaltending was questionable and your "goal scorers" absent Voracek, who had a career year had trouble scoring.

So if Letang is gone, who replaces his minutes and skills? Obviously had a sub-par post season, but his skills can't be replaced with the guys currently on the roster. |

I figure just let it lay. It's their turf, he's only going to look at the Flyers in a negative light, may as well let him have his ball. In short, youarewrong.

This is why, among many other reasons, why no one takes you seriously. The Penguins missed the playoffs for 4 seasons. We had 5 top 5 picks, 2 of which are gone, and 1 of which most Penguins fans want seen gone. We were lucky to get Crosby and Malkin, but what Shero has done to build a team that consistantly is a Cup contender is why the Pens are so successful. - cap1681
I feel the need for a group hug. We're basically saying the same thing. I just said Shero is very good, but one has to discount the core of Crosby and Malkin.
On a separate note, I feel that if one comes on Hockeybuzz so that they can be taken seriously by people named IceDog, well that would be very sad. You don't become Da Man by worrying what the peons think.
You speak the truth and hope you can awaken one poor soul.
Good day my friend.
Cheers! |

I never get tired of the truth.
There are many intelligent fans that agree with Da Man...and well, let's just say there are other people, including some that may prefer a short bus to a long bus. - Daman
I always laugh when someone refers to themself in third person form because no one ever thinks intelligence and illeism in the same breath. Usually it's the complete opposite. |

First, we ain't trading him to Philly. Secondly, I don't see a package they could send. Their farm system is awful; they ain't trading Giroux, Simmonds to us or Voracek - nor should they. I hope to God you aren't referring to Couturier. |

Niskanen? I'm afraid now.. |

Yea just confused. I'm sure I read somewhere that he was being traded and Bylsma was being fired.
Can't remember where it was though. |

This is certainly a concern when discussing the potential trade of Letang. The open market is abysmal this year (as evidence of Streit trade). |

I'm offering Danny Syvret, Bruno Gervais, and the vengeful ghost of Chris Pronger. But you have to throw in Despres. Deal? Excellent. |

Marketing - you don't have to market really. Great fan base
Scouting - obviously questionable based on acquisitions and the state of your farm team
Ownership - solid. They seem to care.
Coaching - I'm surprised he wasn't fired. |

This is truly a great day for the franchise.
Two of the best generational talents are now locked up until 2021-2022.
The Penguins will never be in a rebuild. Only a re-tool. Great place to be as a franchise.
At the very least you will see something once a game from those two that no other fan base in the league has the ability to see on a nightly basis. That is worth its weight in gold as a fan IMO. - Gunner Staal
Very true. It's a great day for Pens fans.
You gotta love the fools on twitter who are complaining that Malkin is making more than Sid.
From 2013-14 season through 2021-22 season
Evgeni Malkin - $83.5 million
Sidney Crosby - $95.4 million.
Malkin left a decent chunk of money on the table to stay here (and give the team some cap space to work with). |

I have no idea if Letang will get done but I wonder what the return would look like. Hopefully it would bring an influx of some youth at the forward position. |
