I figure just let it lay. It's their turf, he's only going to look at the Flyers in a negative light, may as well let him have his ball. In short, youarewrong.

This is certainly a concern when discussing the potential trade of Letang. The open market is abysmal this year (as evidence of Streit trade). - Gunner Staal

Very true. It's a great day for Pens fans.
You gotta love the fools on twitter who are complaining that Malkin is making more than Sid.
From 2013-14 season through 2021-22 season
Evgeni Malkin - $83.5 million
Sidney Crosby - $95.4 million.
Malkin left a decent chunk of money on the table to stay here (and give the team some cap space to work with). - rival22
If the CBA didnt change Malkin would have been given an identical contract to Crosby's. This was such a non issue from the start, and I think most people have understood that. |

Well hell, we have Flyers's fans telling us all about the Penguins in here, so most of us figured it worked both ways. - cap1681
Exactly, something they fail to realize and this is what I'm doing - throwing it back on them. Except, everything I said is pretty accurate.

You keep bringing up Shattenkirk. He isn't going anywhere. Yandle is on the market though.

In a nutshell, you have one of the worst farm systems in the NHL as far as talent and you had no one close to being capable of filling in the needs. Your defense wasn't good; your goaltending was questionable and your "goal scorers" absent Voracek, who had a career year had trouble scoring. - Oneonta Penguin
We have the worst farm system. There simply is no arguing that. However, to combat that, we have a group of young players, coming into their own who are going to a be a force in this league. That gives the farm system time to get back on track.
We have a few players coming up this year that should be very solid players (Cousins, Laughton), we have a promising d-man who played on the gold medal winning US team in Shayne Gostisbhere who looks promising, and we have the 11th pick in a pretty stacked draft. Im not too worried about our future.
Giroux-25
Voracek-23
Simmonds-24
B Schenn-21
L Schenn-23
Couturier-20
Gustafsson-23
Rinaldo-22
McGinn-22
Laughton-19
Im not too worried right now.

Please. - Orpik44
Think about it ... if Despres is a top two pairing guy like DB says, someone is gone. Based on the way he played, Niskanen has to go.

Yandle has been on the market for 2 season I don't know how nobody has gone hard for him yet. |

Try to ice your best team as you can while not handicapping yourself for the future. Let the roster construction shake itself out during the season. |

I think that Shero will find some serviceable second pairing defensemen, but they likely are going to have to trust a young player (in addition to Despres) with solid playing time. If they rely on Niskanen or Engelland to play top 4 minutes, I'll cry.
I really think that Robert Bortuzzo could be a big contributor next season. He played a shutdown role in the AHL, and has the size and decent enough skating to continue his development. |

Because he's a restricted free agent and one piece we could go for. Do you agree Letang is better than Shattenkirk?St.Louis could want Letang and he'd definitely sign there. I can't see him signing a long term deal with Phoenix. Ever. |

I will give you Giroux, Voracek and Simmonds and maybe Laughton based on what I saw from him. Rinaldo and McGinn bring little really. The rest ... who knows. I don't value them even close to what you do. Brayden Schenn actually improved though. |

There's every reason to think that Bortuzzo could become a hiomge grown Douglas Murray type defender for the bottom pair. |

Dumoulin should be up this year. Plus if Letang is moved, there will be the assets from that. Who knows what Shero would be looking for in return. |

Philly has supposedly been interested, but they don't want to part with the next coming of Ron Francis to get him.

Rinaldo may be the most effective pest in the league and McGinn is just getting his shot. I know he wont be a top 6 guy.. but still fills a need on an NHL roster.
You left out both Schenns, Couturier and Gusty? |

I don't value Gusty.
Schenns are very overrated as well as the next Ron Francis. Couturier is still young, but he regressed a bunch this year. The jury is still out on him. Brayden showed improvement, but he isn't worth his salary. Not even close. He better make a huge improvement next year or that 3.1 goes down. |

I'll give you this.... Once Rinaldo learned a little self control, he was pretty effective. He really deserved more ice time down the stretch. |
