Not a fan of Coburn at all, but LOVE Simmonds.
Thanks. Even though this would never happen, I was just interested in your thoughts. - Oneonta Penguin
Its funny how every other fanbase thinks Coburn sucks ass, yet many Flyer fans think he is a great d-man.

I think they would move him if they were to get Letang. Paajarvi is an unsigned RFA, so that would be a small issue, but i could see him being an effective 3rd liner for the Pens as well. - cap1681
a) Not so sure, he's their only defensive defenseman and they already have J.Schultz who is a poor mans Letang.
b) I don't want anything to do with Magnus. Nothing.
I do not want to trade Letang for a reclamation project. As always I think everyone will be shocked what Shero is able to bring back.

Smid is exactly what Pittsburgh needs. Paajarvi is an enigma IMO. - Oneonta Penguin
Question, would you take Smid and the 7th pick for Letang?? |

I still don't see how they replace Letang's minutes and abilities. Martin, as well as he played this year, isn't going to just jump into being a number 1 defensman. Despres seems to have a nice combo of skills, but I don't think they're going to instantly make him the number 1 guy. The kids in minors are still going to need a year or two.
Moving Letang is going to leave a significant void for the immediate future. It's a problem. - madmike71
I don't disagree, but sooner or later they are going to have to throw some of the kids into the deep end of the pool and see who can swim. To your point, it almost makes you wonder if Shero can't get really solid return if they will just let him play out his contract....but that would be very un-Shero like. |

Coby is a great 4th d man and Simmonds is uncoordinated but effective, tough and a little nasty. Could use some bulk and skating lessons. Would be great with Malkin, although that spot is filled. |

Not enough. That is actually a worse return than what we got for our third line center last year.

I still say Columbus could be a partner. 3 picks in the 1st round gives them trade wiggle room and room for growth still. |

At the very least, Shero will need to seek a younger version of Paul Martin in a package deal. I'm not as sour on Letang as some others, but I do believe his salary demands will be untenable.

Simmonds is something we lack ... a physical guy around the net. Yes, I agree with your assessment that he is uncoordinated and lets face it, he has the same thing Neal and Malkin have - get under his skin, he takes dumb penalties, but I've been a big fan of his.

Letang eating minutes is only good when he's playing well. In retrospect I think the team would of fared better with more even distribution. Problem is that's tough to do when you're dressing Engellend. I think if Letang was replaced by a serviceable dman (Smid) the minutes would be distributed between everyone.
Despres is ready, he just needs to be given a chance without worrying about making mistakes.
That's the one thing I do blame Bylsma for but I expect it to be much different next year. |

I think Shero trades him to the Western conference. Remember, Columbus will be in our division next year. |

We can say the same thing in a sense about Letang, but Pittsburgh fans are the ones ready to unload him, while everyone else wants him. |

You CAN'T trade Letang for just picks. You have to get at least one very good young kid on his entry level contract that is ready to make an impact. The thing is, Columbus might not have that type of player that I would covet. |

I agree. The idea is to get something back for now and then. I'm sure there is something to be thought of though for both. A team like that with multiple picks and changing conferences next year seems like an obvious partner to me. Shero's relationship with JK could be something to remember too.
I trust whatever Shero does will be in the best interest of the team. I still feel a pick in the 1st will be on his requirement list. Columbus has more than anyone else. Just my 2 cents. Not worth much. |

Only reason I'm slightly on the side of trading him is because the amount of talent in our prospect pool for defense. Still it is a risk just in case none of them turn out to be top 4 defenseman |

Doesn't Letang have 1 year left? Why would Pitt trade him now?
I think he stays. We can play GM all we want, but the pressure for a GM with Crosby and Malkin is to win a cup, and win now.
I see how it all plays out.
Will be an interesting offseason. From a Flyers perspective, I can only imagine that we will be getting rid of more than we bring in.
Briere - gone
Bryz - ??? - I am one of the few that hopes he stays
If we sign and overpay Streit, another D-man will go.
Still need a winger.
Best to all and cheers!

Writing is on the wall. He's history! Staal got the same money in Carolina that he got offered here. Decision was personal/career based. Letang wants more than the Penguins will give. They'd like to keep him but he's going to force their hand.
Martin did more with his $5 million than Letang could ever hope to do with his $7+ |

Conference. Not sure about division(only 2 now under the re-allignment). I question it simply because they have so much youth/promise coming up in their system. Still---can't rule anyone out. |

Shero could fleece Dallas again. 10th overall pick and either Benn or Eriksson |
