there are a lot of variables about bylsma.

his contract is up next season. could shero just let bylsma play his contract out? is bylsma expecting an extension this season? could Lemieux not want to extend bylsma which causes shero to fire bylsma?

I never knew Dave Tippet played for the penguins. he would be interesting, but I would want Shero to do his diligence and look at as many as possible. guy boucher should get a look, ruff should, AV if he's still available, some coaches in the ahl should get a look... any feasible coach should get a look and shero shouldn't be the only one to decide.

we need the 2009 system back. therrein's discipline and defense and bylsma's offense.

I expect that Bylsma will stay because there aren't better options out there. Apart from the one implosion game (which happened in the cup final in Detroit also), the Boston series was 50-50, Rask won it for them. A lot of bad luck went into the 4 - 0 loss, but we still need to find a way to win those games. If the reason the PP couldn't be run properly was due to Martin's injury and Iginla hiding something, then Bylsma can be forgiven. If it was due to him changing something which had been shown to work, then it is a symptom of a bigger problem.

The Despres and Bennett issues will be solved next year due to the cap. Maybe Shero should just ignore the deadline next year and leave the team as it is and avoid the slow veteran pitfall.

One thing I caught Madden talking about on the way home was that in the past 3 series that the Pens lost, they lost 3 straight games. That's alarming that the team (and their coach) can't right the ship when things start going downhill.

Man, was that stupid.

And it seem like her big problem with him is that he gets deep in the zone. That is one thing that I don't have a problem with. In the Pens system, 99% of the time a forward is covering the point, and often Letang's skating is so good, he gets back anyway.

Sometimes his pinches are ill advised, but that comes with the territory with any offensive defensemen. The problem is that he will try lazy cross ice passes from in deep, or bank if off a defender's shin pads and it goes the other way. This is no different than the plays he sometimes makes when he stays at the point.

He tries to be waaay too clever and overthinks. I hear he watches a sh*tload of video which makes Disco happy. If I were Dan I would tell him, stop watching that crap and go get a beer!

I understand that but it's not like it was to the Devils. They got swept, OK fine, it sucks but there's no way a coach as good as Bylsma should be fired for having a successful season. It's the playoffs, s*** happens

The problem is when you have two of the best players on the planet and then surround them with Letang, Neal, Iggy, Kunitz, Dupes, Martin, Orpik, you expect BIG things. Sorry, getting to the ECF doesn't cut it for me. I'm sure you as an Ottawa fan would be happy as a clam, but we aren't Ottawa. No offense. Look at the roster. That was a waste. That was an embarrassment. I don't think you see the venom if we lose in seven. However the top team in the EC and the highest scoring team in the NHL got outscored 12-2 in four games. That, is unacceptable and something has to give. Couple it with last year's first round abortion to Philly ...

Dan Bylsma has proven he can get the team in position during the regular season. Look at his resume. Then absent the two Cup finals, he hasn't done jack crap since in the play-offs really. So, he is no different than Marc Andre Fleury to me. Solid coach during the regular-season and then nothing during the play-offs. He isn't as good as you think he is. He is flawed.

Those are the worst types of Rossi columns. So often he either creates stories, or fans the flames like this.

I'm sure part of every team's regular season review includes owner & GM meetings, regardless of coaching situation.

i can see why people want the coach to stay
i like the assistant coaches

but i question some of the personnel moves: engelland bringing the puck into the offensive zone? a hall of famer on the right is forced to play on the left (although he has 500 goals on the right), you say fleury is your #1 goalie 4 months before the season starts but wouldnt 2 hours before game 4...why?

tocchet?
Granato?
tippet?

I just hope that Shero fires Bylsma soon so that all the "Fire Bylsma" rhetoric can go away.

That said, I wonder how long it will take for the "Fire the New Guy" chants to start.

If I could pick one thing to happen first I'd like to see Fleury traded before Bylsma go. He just lost his confidence playing with us. We'd have good options out there.

While the small picture is this one season...the bigger is the last 4 playoff years...it's now a legitimate question as to whether or not Bylsma has what it takes to be successful in the playoffs.

Again...don't know the details of the schemes the Penguins play...but it appears that they predominantly play one scheme...to success or failure.

Success in the playoffs is usually achieved by teams that win 'any way' you want to play. Which more or less says...they will adapt to what you are doing and still beat you.

Would you classify the Penguins, under Bylsma, as that type of team?

Probably one of the dumbest sports pieces I've ever read. And I've read Tim Panaccio quite often.

Right...and the question is why?

I'm of the opinion that this team should be ready to win ANY WAY the other team likes to play.

Maybe during the regular season it's ok to lose a few playing 'your way'...because in the long run, you have shown you win more than your share.

But come playoff time you have to be ready to win ANY WAY you can. And be coached well enough and believe in that idea strongly enough that it translates to what happens on the ice. Not, if it doesn't go our way, we are going down in flames.

WAY EASIER said than done...but that's what championship teams generally do.

You are either so good at doing it your way...that nobody can stop you...OR...you are good enough at doing it any way...and you beat teams because of it.

We've seen enough 'our way' failures. They have to change the thought process in order to get better and have a chance at advancing next year.

And isn't that what is supposed to make such talented players so valuable? Because they are good enough...talented enough...to win in different ways?

Sounds like a piggyback on Rossi's article which is Rossi.

I dont really doubt that he seeks $10 million annually. Its just a matter of what Shero is willing to agree on.
