Sounds like a piggyback on Rossi's article which is Rossi.

I dont really doubt that he seeks $10 million annually. Its just a matter of what Shero is willing to agree on.

I have no reservations about Malkin being a Penguin for a long time, its just the details at this point.

but even the details aren't that bad.. its going to be long term and range from 9-10mil which is not a big hit from the 8.7 he is making. My concern is once he gets the money will he still produce regular season and in playoffs... and is that determined on the coach and how he is used? ie point on pp vs half wall, with neal and an assortment of linemates, with and without Sid....

Malkin looking for 10M/year? Perhaps, and I would be fine with that.

The bad thing is that if he gets $10 mil per year, "fans" are going to kill him for that, citing Crosby's $8.7. In Sid's first 8 years, he's averaging $10.8 million. With the new 8 year max, the Pens don't have the luxury of putting a couple cheap years at the end of Malkin's deal to lower the cap hit.

I wouldn't have that kind of concern towards Geno. I think he's a competitor and will do just fine. What I'm not very comfortable with is Neal being his linemate forever. I don't like how they play poorly defensively when they are together.

I'd call St.Louis and say: do you want offense? Here it go, you can stay with Letang/Neal and give us Backes/Oshie/Shattenkirk.

Malkin at $10M for 8 years is perfectly fine IMO.

Right...and the question is why?

I'm of the opinion that this team should be ready to win ANY WAY the other team likes to play.

Maybe during the regular season it's ok to lose a few playing 'your way'...because in the long run, you have shown you win more than your share.

- icedog97

Yeah, my first reacting when hearing that, was that it takes Bylsma too long to change anything. After one loss, it's "we didn't execute", after a second loss, it's "we just need to get to our game more", then by the third loss, he adjusts more because he has to.

I just hope that Shero fires Bylsma soon so that all the "Fire Bylsma" rhetoric can go away.

That said, I wonder how long it will take for the "Fire the New Guy" chants to start.

Probably when the opening night line combinations are set.

It's tough... Shero has to either extend Bylsma or fire him, right?

A Flyer's fan taking shots at another team about contracts? That's rich...

Yes, but all the extension would do is quiet the press speculation about his job. They could always fire him and just pay him the money at any point in time.

Precisely. Sid benefited from the old CBA, Malkin has to get his money from within the new parameters, which isnt as easy to do from a cap standpoint.

Yes, but is quieting speculation worth eating a couple extra million dollars? (I have no idea what Bylsma makes per season).

Agreed. Hope they get something done.... love to see Malkin long term.
Letang is a bit more of a question mark to me.... I believe he will price himself out but get a good package in return.

Thoughts on Torts if he ends up in Van city? The Sedins will both end up benched by December.

Just keeping it real. I would be more than happy to share the overpaid Flyrers, including Harts, Timmo's new deal, perhaps Mez. Bryz's contract is just way too long.

Have there been any Russians that have done well on long-term deals?

With that fanbase and the media spotlight that will be on him, it's going to be hilarious to watch.

So Yashin won the Hart, Conn Smythe, Lindsay, Calder and Art Ross trophies?

It's an extremely high standard, but you've managed to eclipse your previous moronic statements.

Shero still deserves the best gm award despite the implosion in the playoffs... I say keep Dan at least until we see if the team falters during the season next year... Only move Letang if he prices himself out, say demanding 7-8 million... if he stays for 6.5 or less, the keep him. No way any return on Letang beats Letang himself. Move Orpik if we need to shed salery for next season. Fluery is a gamble... anyone on this site that is comfortable with Vokoun for an 82 game season plus playoffs is awful hopeful, he didn't do so hot with Washington last 82 game season he played. It would depend on who shero could get to compliment/suplant Vokoun as a goalie.

If you're happy with Malkin taking $10mil against the cap, I hope you're happy with cheap fillins everywhere else. I cant see room for Letang after that. Im not exactly sure how the new CBA works, but the cap is going down to $60, isnt it only allowed to go up a slow % every yr?
