I think Meltz is going to have some great insights during the amnesty buyout period. Should have some interesting options in UFA by the draft.

some good stuff there, though i'd prefer ryder as a scoring forward who's usually a lock for 25 goals and decent 2 way play.

Might've been a boon at that point. By that season, every 2-on-1 when he was the 1, led to a goal against because he always took the puck carrier, leaving the other opponent WIDE OPEN to put the puck into the yawning net while Rico crashed into his goalie (Esche, usually) who looked at him incredulously.

i'm judging him overall and i'm seeing a guy, who, kinda like bryz, has had his moments, but ultimately is avg. if this team doesn't show signs of growth this season, he should be gone.

In my opinion, that is absolutely inaccurate. And that judgement completely loses sight of the big picture. This is a GM who built a team that went to the Cup Finals not that long ago. And then for a variety of reasons, decided to make some pretty big changes in trading the team's top two players. And here we are just one full Season and one shortened Season into that retool or rebuild, or whatever you want to call it. So to suggest that he should be gone, without letting it play out, is preposterous. When the players he obtained in that move, Schenn and Couturier, are just in the infancy of their NHL careers. You knew when those moves were made, that this was going to take some time. And that's not even mentioning the freak injury to the team's franchise defenseman, that is beyond anyone's control. When you look at the overall picture and the facts. It's far better then average.

Shhhhhh! I have long felt that Calgary is the most likely trading partner for the Flyers for Meszaros. But keep that under your hat. We don't want to scare them off.

that's freakin hilarious. after some initial, really brilliant, success, homer's lost his way. had he just kept carle and JVR last yr, they'd be better off. after the bryz experiment, he's chasing his tail w/ streit, another lead weight big $$ contract for a 1 dimensional 35+ guy. if he can maneuver his way out of this box he put himself in, i'll be the 1st to give him credit.

Kerr being out hurt, but Krejci being out for Boston in 2010 helped us. Of course, no Cup in either situation, so trolls-in-fans'-clothing can whine on.

Talked to an Islanders fan today at work. Watches every game and says Streit is decent but tries to make too many fancy plays with the puck (turnover prone). Thinks he's not worth the money he's asking for and the Islander would of liked to keep him but not at the price he is demanding.

You don't know that they'd be better off. You think they would, but you don't know that. That's the difference. I gave you facts. You're giving assumptions. And in bringing up Streit, you fail to include that adding Streit has a chance to make the Flyers better. Isn't that the GM's job! And let's ignore that trading JVR for Luke Schenn was a very good trade. That's the problem. You've already, before Streit has even played a game. Labeled it a bad move. Talk about hilarious. Streit brings a dimension that the Flyers were badly lacking last year. I'd rather they had kept Carle also, compared to signing Streit. But that's spilt milk.
I'd love for you to quantify this fictitious box you describe. Doesn't exist. Every single year, he puts a solid roster on the ice. This team is loaded with young talent. Again, the changes he made in making the big trades was not going to be an overnight process! Do you deny that? Or did you think that they should be contending by this point in that retool? And I'd also like for you to explain why what you highlighted is funny?

Turnovers are a fact of life for defenseman who handle the puck a lot. You take the good with the bad with that type of player.
