Yes. I have a bullet proof plan for them. They're not close to done. You will see both amnesties before the draft. - cmr.266
don't think they have a choice at this point |

those guys were easy to add at the deadline just a % is counted at the cap, & really if your a UFA at the deadline, where would you lean to go??
Crosby & malkin make his job a little easy in that respect - puckhead17
Yes, yes they do. But if you look at the contracts on that team (Kunitz, Dupuis, their whole defense sans Paul Martin), they all seem to have much more reasonable contracts than here. I respect his cap-management skills. Though he went for it and now he has some tough decisions. Stupid Penguins. |

Streit would have led the Flyers defensemen in goals, and would have been second in points, trailing Timonen by 2 points. He's here to be a puck mover and help bring offense from the blue line. Paired with a guy like Coburn, he should be fine. - Jsaquella
he would have made us a better team this past season & will make us better this season as well improves us in a few facets of the game |

You really think so?
I'm not taking a shot at the Pens -- really, I'm not. They were 36-12 this year, won 15 straight games.
But if you're them, why burn a 1st-rounder on Iginla? Why not find a younger winger who can ride shotgun with Crosby for eight years or so?
The experience thing...that's so overrated, and Shero should know that by now. - AllInForFlyers
Considering that the issue they faced last season, in losing to the Flyers was dicipline, I get the idea behind adding a veteran leader.
But at the same time, they seemed to simply want veterans without regard for how much they had left in the tank or where they fit in positionally.

Because they wanted to win a Cup. Those were no brainer moves, especially considering they actually have a bunch of good young prospects. Most notably on defense. Do you think Dupuis and Kunitz have years like that playing with anyone else?
Oh, I despise the Penguins, take all the shots you want. I just respect how Shero does it. Their farm is much better than ours. |

if you remember Detroit was like that a few years ago, guys would take much less to play with a winner, I don't know if Dupuis or Letang will do that again as they already have a ring |

I'm amazed that Detroit has retooled that defensive core in a hurry. They were playing real well at the end of the year and in the playoffs. |

a long while back Selanne & Kariya left Anaheim & signed in Colorado for really cheap, hoping to win a cup & it backfired then. |

I'm concerned about the contract, too. But it is what it is. They got a guy that fills a couple big needs for a AHL 4th liner and a 4th rounder. There's going to be some negatives.
Would somebody that hates the move be happier if they traded Couturier for Yandle? |

they still had a few young pieces plus Kronwall doesn't hurt to build around |

Unfortunately, 29 teams fail to win the Cup each year. Bedtime. Good chatting with everyone. I'm new to Hockeybuzz, but check out my article soon - it loosely covers all we've talked about and potential off-season plans for Philly.
Take care. |

I don't hate the move. Just not sure I'm going to like the contract. Holmgren probably was talking to other teams and went with the best option possible without breaking up the core he wants to build around. They will probably overpay and give out to many years but that's nothing new I guess. |

Tell the truth: You think they're going to pull the trigger on that, don't you?
I have this feeling...that they are going to do it.

I don't think Couturier gets us Yandle by itself. I think Yandle would be really expensive to acquire.
I guess when you look around at all the options, this may be the best one they could pull, but they still have a while to go & I see more retooling |

Depends on the philosophy.
I believe you win with goaltending and defense. The offense than comes off of your ability to control the game. |

I'm sure I'm going to dislike the contract. But I also have zero reason to expect Streit to be a bust. He's being brought in to move the puck and help the transition game. They're not asking him to be Chris Pronger. They're asking him to be Mark Streit. |

I did, until they acquired Streit. Now, there's really no need to go after Yandle, let alone overpay him |

Will see what happens. Not sure why anyone would ask him to be someone else other than Mark Streit. |
