Good points. I agree that while Lavy has to assume some blame (leadership, motivation, system play), Homer flopped big time in the offseason. I don't blame him for going after Weber and co., but obviously he didn't have a Plan B or C (so it seemed). Gervais? Foster? Whoops.
I blame Homer and the veteran leadership over Lavy, but they all are due some accountability. The players all seemed to make excuses or say "it's just a matter of time, we're not getting bounces". Right. - cmr.266
Reality is that after plan A, there is no plan B or C. It's the Gervais and Foster of the World that you're stuck with. There is not an unlimited supply of quality defenseman available. |

Just watch the Bruins and Hawks in the finals. Isolate and pay attention to the high forward, and how he is positioned. Watch the neutral zone and how each team has a presence there, and provides resistance to the opposition. There's a reason why Edzo said he thinks whoever owns the neutrals zone, will win the Series.
Versus the Flyers style of play where one quick pass defeats the forecheck. And then it looks like the fastest skater competition for the opposition, at the skills competition on All Star weekend, all the way to the Flyers net. - MJL

No Giroux tweets yet? Not earth-shattering, but interesting to see if this gets done this summer or not.....
@DarrenDreger 2h
While the Flyers work on a contract for Mark Streit, preliminary discussions on extending Claude Giroux's contract have also begun.

I was hoping since Crosby is at a hit of 8.7, we could lock up Giroux at a cap of 2.8. Possible? |

I say that because while I never say never, and things like injuries do happen, it's highly unlikely that every single one of Nick Cousins, Marcel Noebels, Petr Straka, Mark Alt, Brandon Alderson, Shayne Goestibhere, Oliver Lauridsen, Tye McGinn, Anthony Stolarz, Scott Laughton, Sean Couturier and Brayden Schenn ALL FAIL to reach their potential.
Some of them will underachieve. Some of them will overachieve. Some will be in the middle.
But of those 12, if just half of them reach their potential, with either Laughton, Couturier or Schenn doing more than that...we should be fine, considering we'll still be drafting players, signing players, trading for players, etc. - AllInForFlyers
The issue though is that most of these guys really are not high-ceiling guys, with the obvious except of Schenn, Couturier and probably Laughton. Stolarz could be included in that group, but with goalies you never know. Ghost would be next in the list, and I personally have higher expectations for him. I have a sense that either Straka or Raffl could grow into something.
The majority of the others are likely competing for similar roles as 3rd/4th line guys, 5/6 dmen or callups. |

Wideman (ew), Stuart, Oduya, Spacek, Kuba, Salo? All would have been better stop gaps than Gervais and Foster. Though I guess by that time we were left with the scraps.
Regardless, as much as Holmgren has had some terrific offseasons, the roster took a step back after the last. |

i'd be interested in a Mike Richardsesque defenseman actually - Crimsoninja

I've heard Mark Streit compared to Mike Richards.
They both....um...breathe? - jmatchett383
The more I think about it, the more I realize that the way my boss runs the department reminds me of Mike Richards. She has that aura. Gritty, two-way financial management. |

The fact of the matter is that teams will pay a heavy premium for a guy like Letang. Personally, I think he really benefited from playing on a team with guys like Malkin and Crosby. THAT IS NOT A SLIGHT EITHER. He is still a top pairing guy...
I could see them getting a a roster player (top 6 forward or top 4 d-man) and picks and prospects. Scary reallly. - jak521

Oduya wasn't a Free Agent. None of them would give the Flyers what they needed. For what the Flyers needed, it was pretty much Suter, Wideman, or keeping Carle. |

Most of them can move the puck. He was pending FA, should have traded a 4th rounder for his negotiating rights. |
