You know you in for a long day when MJL starts using phrases like, "situation aren't comparable" "Not entirely accurate." "The bottom line" "But the point is" "Which further illustrates my point" - youarewrong
How's it different from any other day MJL posts, wrongareyou? |

Not busting on MJL, just making an observation. Just like its going to be a long day for everyone when I start making up crazy trade theroies and posting lines.... it means I'm bored and looking for trouble... |

wild stab would be on a guy like Bickell (ala Joel Ward) .. you know EXACTLY what you are getting with a player like Clarkson - MrBigglesworth
Clarkson's had, what, 1.5 seasons of productive goal output? Unless you think he's the next coming of Knuble, and will experience his most productive years in his early-mid 30's, I'm not sure you could justify allocating that kind of money + term on him, especially when we already have existing power forwards entrenched in prime scoring roles.
At best, Clarkson's a late-bloomer like Knuble. More likely, somebody repeats the Martin Lapointe fiasco from way back when. |

That is true, but unfortunatly CapGeek does not have a LTIR button, at least not that I've found. So however people try to remove Pronger from the equation dealing with the year should not be a focal point when posting potential Roster scenarios from Capgeek. - flyler
Yes and no. A lot depends on the Bonus Cushion. |

I don't see the Flyers making a big splash in this dreadful UFA pool. Maybe a Clarke MacArthur, a Matt Martin, someone to fill a role well that's decent and won't break the bank.
Regardless, I smell a draft day trade, even if it lands nobody more prominent than these types of players. |

I'll never say anything bad about Daniel Briere -- he came to the Flyers after the single-worst season I've ever had the misfortune of watching. They were so bad in the Season That Shall Not Be Referenced Frequently, it was hard to believe that anything good was going to happen soon.
But Paul Holmgren was crafty and got Scott Hartnell and Kimmo Timonen, and Briere signed (for a ton of money and years, true, but he still came), and Homer added Joffrey Lupul and Jason Smith, etc., and the next thing you know those boys were back in the playoffs. Hell, it could be argued that with how bad they were in the Season That Shall Not Be Referenced Frequently, they probably should've missed another season or two.
Briere did about what I expected him to do, with an 8-year contract that would take him into his mid-30s, as a smaller player. He played well for the majority, was plagued by injury one season, then started to wear down by years 5 and 6.
I don't know how much he has left in the tank -- truthfully, I don't think he has much. But at the same time, I'll root for him, whatever he decides to do, because man, when he came...wow. Did we ever need him to produce, and he did. - AllInForFlyers
Homer did a great job back then. briere's time here is up, but his signing was a catalyst that spurred a pretty good run.

If Risto, Nurse and Pulock are gone, then someone like Monahan probably fell through the cracks and I'd grab him. |

Right. He likely won't fall, but you figure if those three backliners all... then someone is obviously falling. Assuming he doesn't, I think you have to go Pulock. Risto is a close second. As long as we aren't reaching for any more two-way centers. When is enough enough?? Time for a new element is the value is there. |

I think it all revolves around what happens at the draft.
If the Flyers move up to 5, they will likely trade Couts, Schenn, or Read for a Young Defenseman. Meaning they will likely go for a 2nd line Center like Ribero or Weiss.
If the Flyers stay put at 11th and take a defenseman I can see Laughton being moved for an emerging Defenseman, and we will sign someone like Zubrus or Antripov.
If the Flyers trade Read, but dont land a Center I can see them going after Hornton or Clarkson.
It is totally possible they only more shocking Flyers momenets will be the Lindros Trade and the Richards/Carter trades. |

They could have easily done w/o the Briere signing, though... Carter, Richards were your top centers moving forward, still had a lot of pop from guys like Umberger, Lupul, Upshall... and they had a guy by the name of Giroux, with a very similar skill-set, coming up as well. They would have been much improved that following season with or w/o Briere, IMO.
They also might have been able to afford to keep Umberger and Upshall, and/pr might have had a little bit more $ to spend on the back-end so we didn't end up with Krajicek, Leighton and their fellow bargain-bin misfits. |

No, sorry for the bad transition. I meant he's cheap ($1M). He has a multiple year contract, but Homer keeps saying he wants size up front. Imagine him and Rinaldo on same line?? |

I like the Clarkson/Lapointe comparison.
Pure hand waving here, and I don't know if there is data to back up this assertion, but how often do free agents come out of NJ and actually flourish elsewhere? |

Oh, I hope not on that third option. I like the logic behind the moving up move, but I'm not sure I'm entirely on board with it. They can get a terrific prospect at 11 - ideally a D man who can learn from the vets in camp before they retire or get concussed. Perfect time for development. |

Parise, Rolston and Arnott went on to be pretty good.
Then you have guys like Sykora, Langenbrunner, Gionta, Madden that were useful elsewhere, but never as pivotal as they were for the Devils. |

You simply can't dismiss the playoff performances that Briere put in. That is not a player that they could have easily done without. |

You cant buy-out a contract you traded for I'm pretty sure. - youarewrong
Luke Richardson from Spectors was saying the Hawks might pursue that with Hossa.
Trade him to a smaller team, they buy him out, and then Chicago resigns him for far less a year.
I believe this is fine to do. |

I still think there's an 80% chance Bryz is gone. Whoever they sign in his place is most certainly getting a 1 to 2 year deal (whether it's a Bernier or a Theodore). |

Works for me. Though I don't see Clarkson taking that little and I think it will b e Clowe honestly. Not wanting Clowe just think it might be inevitable. |
