Cruel, but funny. Reimer looks to be developing nicely. - flyer_nutter
As a Philly fan, do you think Bryz would help or hurt Riemer as a backup in TO? (Not trolling) |

I agree. There is always going to be defenseman available one way or another. The artificial lowering of the Cap for a year or two, is going to put the squeeze on some teams. But that will go up at some point. I don't think the landscape of the NHL is all of a sudden going to change. You do need to draft and develop defenseman. But it's being made far more of a big deal then it really is. - MJL
I find it interesting that some teams like the Flyers seem very adept at drafting forwards, while teams like the Yotes and Preds are adept at drafting d-men. I think there will always be trades involving forwards for d-men. I don't think trades like Gogo for Neal, Schenn for JVR, Horton for Weideman are going to become obsolete. Just my opinion. |

New Jersey, throw them in there as well - puckhead17
Thats true.
There has been stuff about Smith possibly being available or something. Never was really too high on the guy, but as a veteran time splitter and another good puck handling goalie I'd look into it.

Time to move on from Bryzgalov. I don't care if they land Bernier or not. Mason will have to be the guy for a season (possible deadline) if he fails. I still think he can give you the same production as Bryz for a quarter of the cost. - stveshdy
watching the great goaltending in these finals, it's painful seeing the less than mediocre dreck we've witnessed too often these past few yrs. i wouldn't throw it all on mason cause we're talking about four suck yrs in a row for him. he needs to be part of a tandem. who? i dunno... |

I'm Bryzgalov'ed out. He had two years to show what he can do and in my opinion he didn't do enough. The Flyers would be better off getting rid of that ridiculous contract. |

I'm zero percent interested in him at that price. I understand why the Flyers would want to add him but you still have to smart about what your doing. |

maybe, but there's another guy used to playing in a very tight defensive system, where most shots are either blocked or kept to the outer angles, (the Phoenix plays).
Big difference from playing here |

Agree with everyone you wrote. However, someone is going to give Bernier the chance to be a #1 goalie. I just don't see how his agent will just allow him to sign his tender and remain the back-up in LA. - ravishingone
no question- bernier's out of LA for sure. |

Not impossible for sure. Although to complete rely on external sources for building a d-core? I dont like that approach.
This team has done that far too much, for far too long.

There have been plenty of great scoring chances throughout the playoffs and I've seen some really great saves by goalies.
Bryzgalov isn't going to be perfect but he's been below average to average at best and that doesn't cut it. |

in bold, not just that, but the teams that rolled 4 lines, played very tight D with the lead, (most occasions), and each team had a "stalwart" defenseman |

A large part of that great goaltending is the great team defense and support that they give their goaltenders. Even as good as Crawford and Rask are. Play them on the Flyers this past Season, and they won't look so great. They'd be better then Bryz has been, but their play would suffer playing behind that lack of defense.

Chicago is really damn aggressive all over the ice. They however have the speed of their players to play that game.
Notice on their back-check every guy usually gives his all. Great to see. |

Must be nice to have two studs but even better that those two always seem to stay healthy. |

I think Keith is the best, really, the guy is really that good!
I used to think a solid core was more important, but look at the teams that have won recently, it's not only a solid core but a #1 guy to build around |

Certainly understandable, but back to the immediate question about Streit. I don't have a problem going this route in the short-term (yes he will get overpaid) because the organization is never going to be complacent. It appears they have an interest in keep the young core together (at least for now). Finally, $10 million is coming off the cap after next year with Kimmo (supposedly retiring) and I doubt Mez gets resigned because of the injury concerns. |
