I think Keith is the best, really, the guy is really that good!
I used to think a solid core was more important, but look at the teams that have won recently, it's not only a solid core but a #1 guy to build around - puckhead17
I like that defensive group in general.
Leddy is really good as well. |

Certainly understandable, but back to the immediate question about Streit. I don't have a problem going this route in the short-term (yes he will get overpaid) because the organization is never going to be complacent. It appears they have an interest in keep the young core together (at least for now). Finally, $10 million is coming off the cap after next year with Kimmo (supposedly retiring) and I doubt Mez gets resigned because of the injury concerns. - ravishingone
I don't mind overpaying its just how many years are we going to do it for?
36 year old getting four years, not something I like at all. |

Hjamarsson is the unheralded member of that defense in my opinion. I could be wrong, but I think Boston is going to wear Chicago down.

do u like the Streit move? - puckhead17
doing something is better than nothing. To elaborate; yes but that's without seeing what he gets signed to unless he has and I am amiss. However if they can get him signed reasonably and keep the term under 5 years, I'll be happy. They've basically found a short term solution to Kimo leaving after this season. |

The years won't really bother me. The Cap hit likely will. Lots of players are playing at a high level well into their upper 30's

Remember during the offseason last summer, Hjamarsson was a guy I wanted here. He was supposedly on the trade market although nothing panned out. |

Ohhh I am all for that kind of move! Its a good way for them to stay somewhat competative instead of dealing away players for "projects".
I want that young core intact for a little while, and to better evaluate it. I'm all for not locking this team down with crazy long contracts, but more so with vets who can better show these young kids how to play.
Would just be better if there were more "young kids" on that back end. I was high on MAB but his head seems to be made of slurpee. |

That's what I'm talking about. We all know he is going to get paid, its just a matter of how many years they are going to overpay him. |

I'm hoping its a three year deal. I wouldn't be upset if he didn't sign either. However, I think the Flyers have every intention of signing him for what he is asking for. |

Welp gents, it has been fun chatting hockey with everyone. I must retire upstairs on this Father's day evening to watch DisneyJr with my four year-old to help him settle down and go to sleep. If you don't know the shows like Octonauts and Special Agent Oso, trust me you will someday especially if she is late or more precisely you are!! |

work with me here, would ya? I said Kimo, not carle But yea either way, they (the flyers front office) and the detractors from the fanbase should have realized we had an asset in Carle. Missed him badly this season. |

in bold, not just that, but the teams that rolled 4 lines, played very tight D with the lead, (most occasions), and each team had a "stalwart" defenseman - puckhead17
the team w/o a norris trophy candidate is at a disadvantage, but routine stops have to be made and there can't be a predictability about the types of chances that usually find the back of the net. that's killed the flyers for the most part, the last several yrs. |

Flyers are beyond desperate at this point. I personally think he helps on the PP and moving the puck. On the other hand he isn't very physical, his age isn't great, and I question the Islanders letting their captain walk.
Will see what happens but I don't think Streit is a replacement for Timonen. Maybe for Mez but not Kimmo. |

I did. I had to blame someone else for the BS seen on the back end.
Carle was like a bad pimple this team decided to finally pop.

Very few teams have a Norris Trophy candidate. One way to stop those chances finding the back of the net, is to limit those kinds of chances. If the Flyers want Bryzgalov, Mason, or any other Goalie to be successful here, they need to shore up the team defense first and foremost.

ah no, he's the Carle replacement that they gaffed on, Kimmo is outstanding 2 way D man, but Striet will get Carle's $ & term & playability |
